What was intended as a heartfelt homage to a legendary actor by his own son ends up as a disappointing, uninspired, and ultimately mediocre documentary. Instead of honoring his father's legacy, it manages to diminish it, especially by showing a lack of sensitivity toward key collaborators. Most notably, it disrespects the work of one of the directors that brought Tognazzi into cinema history. I am referring to director Marco Ferreri, who played a crucial role in Ugo Tognazzi's cinematic journey. Ferreri's The Ape Woman is quoted using the censored version - a version he absolutely loathed. Such a careless choice reflects the film's superficial approach. The result is forgettable, misguided, and devoid of genuine insight.
