That was a tough watch for me in so many levels. It's drastically depressive yet it can be hilariously funny so to make a final analysis on it it'll be a
little hard. Here we have the story of the female prostitutes who on Luz Square, downtown of São Paulo. They share their family background and the stories are all
similar with abadonment from their parents or creating by some stepmother who was also not caring; and not knowing much about the ways of life they end up getting
invited by some madam to perform sex work and get money with that. And since they didn't know anything else they kept doing the same work to advanced ages and don't
think for a second they can't get clients because they can since there are men with fetish for anything. That's the sad bit from the film.
But on the other hand, the shorts borders a hysterical comedy when they share the peculiar stories from the clients and they're pretty much the same thing
with clients wanting to realize their wildest fantasies and they complied with it. Not gonna describe them but all I can say is that all of those ladies had a blast
and huge smile on their faces while telling those stories. Those are the good humored moments from the film since they take it very lightly and are very open about it.
The ultimate effect on us is seeing that at the end of the day, those ladies lead sad lives, where they didn't manage to imagine themselves having a good
relationship or getting another line of work (one of them reveals that she was married but caught the man in bed with her mother!). And for those who being a sex worker
is always a matter of choice be warned, that it's not. There are times this is all that gets available to you. And that's the great tragedy of it - and I find it odd
that they never mentioned about the fact of being exploited or having to deal with some violent/demanding customer. More from that should be addressed. All in all, it's
a good project because it shines a light on a topic that's barely exploited on film or TV. 6/10.
