I recently seen the movie on the last showing at the Edinburgh Film Festival. It was hidden in a venue which seemed to be in a secret tunnel underneath the main National Gallery Building where it was advertised as being shown, and was apparently shut. The fact that I recently lost one of my eyes, and the main building was closed, lead to me nearly missing the showing as I was pure lost.
Anyway, movie was a pleasant surprise, and the Director presented the movie which was really nice.
I seen his inspirations while watching the movie, and was why I really took to it: Slacker and Clerks being 2 of my favourite movies from independent 90's cinema.
Strikes me how young director Mas Bouzidi was to be handling a full length feature like this one. He must be ambitious, and definitely has potential as an up and coming film maker.
The use of film stock along with lighting and cinematic techniques used, makes the film seem aged-in a good way. It harks back to the history of cinema and the cinematic experience. Cinema has been enduring some tough times, this film coinciding with the closure of one of Glasgow main cinema houses, "Cineworld", which claims to be the tallest cinemas in the world.
Would be great to see a 90's independent comedy cinema revival. Those 2 movies he cited were unreal in their lack of budget and abundance of originality.
Another low budget American film maker from the 90s I have taken to of recent, is Hal Hartley, but there are many to choose from and find inspiration from.
