R-Rated Netflix Movie Fixed Climbs Streaming Charts In One Day
Image
Whether it is gritty action, dark comedy, or bold adult animation, Netflix doesn't shy away from pushing boundaries, which is why it has become a powerhouse streaming platform for hit R-rated movies. From Barbarian to Kandahar, many recent R-rated films have shone on Netflix, and the site has also been great for comedies.

Additionally, despite its 10% Rotten Tomatoes score, John Cena's action comedy Freelance recently saw streaming success when it was added to the platform. We see again and again that critics' scores don't dictate popularity, while Netflix originals like Do Revenge werealso trending on the platform upon initial release. As a result, it is proven that R-rated comedies seem to hold up on Netflix.

Fixed Is Currently Trending On Netflix

Genny Tartakovsky's Fixed is currently trending on Netflix, ranking at No. 5 in the Top 10 Movies in the United States today. Released just yesterday, Fixed is an R-rated animated Netflix movie that follows Bull,...

Sausage Party: Foodtopia Season 2 TV Review: Seth Rogen’s latest satirical food fight could give you indigestion
Image
Plot: Exiled from home, Frank, Barry, and Sammy soon find themselves in New Foodland, a shining utopia for food and humans alike. But beneath the city’s glossy fridges and cheery smiles lies a dark secret threatening the sentient food society.

Review: Sausage Party: Foodtopia is a deceptive serving of entertainment. On one hand, it’s raunchy, low-brow, and immature. On the other hand, it’s a subversive, clever, and winking satire that goes down like a steaming forkful of humble pie. It stands at a crossroads between “I’m so glad this exists” and “What the f**k am I watching?” You’re either prepared to buy the ticket and take the ride, or there’s no sense in attending the barbecue. The second season of Sausage Party: Foodtopia is a trail mix of quality, and like any other bag of this unruly snack, there are ingredients I...

Sausage Party: Foodtopia Season 2 Review — Offers Downright Filthy Fun and Big Belly Laughs
Image
Yes, the first season of Sausage Party: Foodtopia can feel like reheated leftovers from the filthy minds of Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg. I mean, what did you expect from the creatives who brought us Superbad, Pineapple Express, Good Boys, and one of the best animated films of the decade, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem?

Heck, now that these two have created Apple TV+’s brilliant and critically acclaimed The Studio, maybe the naysayers will get off their pedestals and embrace a series that wants to make you laugh—and has a smarter political view than most are willing to admit. Albeit, a downright filthy, humorous, and slant that may be hard to digest.

Netflix’s ‘Fixed’: An Unflinching Look at Canine Crisis and Hand-Drawn Rebellion
Image
In the landscape of contemporary American animation, a field largely domesticated by four-quadrant family entertainment, Genndy Tartakovsky’s Fixed arrives as a startling and feral proposition. The film presents a deceptively simple, high-concept premise: Bull, an average, all-around good dog, discovers he has 24 hours until he is scheduled to be neutered. This inciting incident triggers a frenetic, last-ditch adventure with his pack of canine friends, structured as a wild-night-out escapade. Yet, beneath its R-rated, comedy-of-humiliation surface lies a work of surprising thematic density. The narrative is less about a dog’s carnal panic and more a profound existential crisis. Tartakovsky himself has framed Bull’s anxiety through a potent analogy to the biblical tale of Samson, whose strength was inextricably linked to his hair; for Bull, his testicles represent a similar locus of identity, a source of what he perceives as his essential self. Their impending loss is not just...

Fixed (Fantasia) Review: A throwback animated comedy full of heart, buttholes and adult humor
Image
Plot: From visionary director Genndy Tartakovsky comes “Fixed,” an adult animated comedy about Bull, an average, all-around good dog who discovers he’s going to be neutered in the morning! As the gravity of this life-altering event sets in, Bull realizes he needs one last adventure with his pack of best friends as these are the last 24 hours with his balls! What could go wrong…?

Review: If you have ever had an animated film recommended but brushed it off by saying that cartoons are for kids, you are missing out. From the pantheon of Japanese animated fare that rival live-action projects to classic American films like Heavy Metal, animation has been a medium with just as many projects aimed at adults as it has towards children. In recent years, movies like Sausage Party have amped up the raunch factor to reclaim animation for mature audiences. Still, Seth Rogen’s food-oriented...

Seth Rogen’s Raucous Adult Animated Comedy Serves Up a Piping Hot Season 2 Trailer
Image
Nearly a decade ago, when the adult-animated comedy flick Sausage Party jumped off the shelves and into cinemas, it’s unclear whether the minds behind it had any idea of just how popular it would become. While Seth Rogen was gunning for a feature-length sequel for years, he eventually got the next best thing — an episodic series. Now, heading into its sophomore installment, today marks the debut of the long-awaited trailer for Sausage Party: Foodtopia Season 2. With favorites like Rogen, Michael Cera, Edward Norton, and Will Forte returning to voice their characters Frank, Barry, Sammy Bagel Jr., and Jack, respectively, the next fresh batch of piping-hot episodes will also feature plenty of new celebrity voices as the boys strike out on their latest adventure.

‘Fixed’ Review: Very R-Rated Hot-To-Trot Dog Cartoon Tries Hard To Be Outrageous & Succeeds- Annecy Animation Festival
Image
In Fixed, premiering at the Annecy International Festival of Animation in France, Netflix has a nice feature film companion piece for its oh-so-adult animation shows like Big Mouth. This one about a pooch named Bull fetting over the imminent loss of his doggie testicles — or so he thinks — is in the vein of Seth Rogen’s very Seth Rogenish 2016 toon Sausage Party and going way back to the king of the genre Ralph Bakshi’s 1972 Fritz the Cat, which was sold with the ad line, “We’re not rated ‘X’ For nothin’, baby!”

That animated breakthrough announced loudly and proudly that cartoons are not always kids stuff, but quite frankly, compared to Fixed, it might as well have come from Disney.

Credit Sony Pictures Animation for this production, and I am not sure why they unloaded it to Netflix, but you can bet kids will have a lot more access...

Genndy Tartakovsky Knows ‘Fixed’ Is a ‘Unicorn’ of an Animated Movie
Image
Having worked on the project for 15 years, Genndy Tartakovsky is fully aware that his latest film, “Fixed,” is an anomaly. Here is a raunchy, capital R-rated 2D animated comedy about a dog having one last wild night out on the town before getting neutered in the morning and losing his precious family jewels. Despite having several acclaimed shows and a highly successful animated film trilogy in his resume, Tartakovsky’s “Fixed” could have easily not made it to the screen — and it almost didn’t several times.

“I’ve always said this movie is a unicorn,” Tartakovsky told IndieWire ahead of the film’s release at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival. “It’s a dream come true to have a 2D animated, hand-drawn, R-rated movie that doesn’t rely on pop culture humor. It’s very rare.”

He is not wrong. Though on the surface, it’d be easy...

‘Fixed’ Review: From the Mind of Genndy Tartakovsky Comes a Comedy About a Horndog With a Castration Complex
Image
Next time someone tells you animation is for kids, consider offering “Fixed” as clear evidence to the contrary. Crude in both senses of the term — from its raunchy humor to the deliberately un-slick animation style — Genndy Tartakovsky’s R-rated feature is to “Lady and the Tramp” as “Shaving Ryan’s Privates” is to a respected Spielberg movie. Produced by Sony Pictures Animation and dropping on Netflix, where it should be right at home with the likes of “BoJack Horseman” and “Big Mouth,” the off-color comedy focuses on how a randy rescue mutt (Adam Devine as Bull) reacts to the news he’s about to be neutered.

Bull has balls (which are lovingly drawn beneath his asterisk-shaped keister), but not for long. That is, unless he can figure out some way to outwit his owners, who’ve done little to domesticate their beloved if misbehaved companion since the day they adopted him.

‘Fixed’: Genndy Tartakovsky’s Long-Neutered R-Rated Dog Comedy Finally Gets Unleashed
Image
How’s this for a R-rated animated comedy idea: A pooch and his doggy friends go out for one wild night on the town before he’s set to get neutered. Good, right?

“I think it’s the best elevator pitch I’ve ever had,” says Genndy Tartakovsky, about the concept for Fixed, his first R-rated feature, which premiered at the Annecy film festival on Wednesday. “Every time I say it, everybody laughs. You have the vision of a movie, right there.”

That pitch, back in 2009, was enough to get Tartakovsky in the door at Sony Pictures Animation. Tartakovsky was already an established, and Emmy-winning hitmaker, at Warner Bros. Cartoon Network, thanks to shows like Dexter’s Laboratory, Powderpuff Girls and Samurai Jack. Fixed was set to be his first feature, and Sony’s first-ever R-rated animated film.

Then everything changed.

The Charlie Sheen & Hilary Duff Comedy That IMDb Users Consider One Of The Worst Movies Ever

When "Toy Story" was released in the fall of 1995, it not only established Pixar Animation Studios as an upstart studio worth paying attention to, but it also made clear to the entire animation industry that there was a new way to tell stories. Nothing against hand-drawn animation, of course, but now there was proof that computer animation could bring a wonderful, funny, exciting tale to life just as well as other styles within the medium of animation.

That was both good and bad news. It was good news because it allowed for competition to spring up in places like DreamWorks Animation and Illumination Entertainment. But the bad news was that, as was also the case with hand-drawn animation, there would be always cheaper options available. Yes, computer animation was in its nascent years, but it would improve. What if, though, some studios weren't able to progress technologically and had to use old-school-looking computer animation?...

“The Studio is the best new TV series since the first season of Hacks. It is so clever and funny and well directed and perfectly acted. I can’t wait for everyone to see it,” wrote Variety co-editor-in-chief Ramin Setoodeh.

Inverse editor Hoai-Tran Bui called The Studio, “Entourage, but for Film Twitter (positive). Really enjoyed seeing this with a crowd, whose laughter was so loud, I missed 20% of the dialogue.

Saturday Night Live's cold open turns into a comedy reunion fest
Image
Nothing brings out the stars quite like a Saturday Night Live Five Timers Club meeting. So when Martin Short joined the club this week, SNL put together one reunion after another as a parade of cameos came out to celebrate.

Short, a former cast member, finally joined the illustrious club this weekend. He first hosted in 1986 and has become SNL's "Mr. December" as each hosting turn has come during the holiday month.

The combination of Short's fifth time hosting, the Christmas episode, and this being SNL's 50th season created the perfect recipe for cameos. And SNL over-delivered in the cold open and in the process, organized several TV and movie reunions for fans to enjoy. In no particular order...

Paul Rudd and Martin Short represented Only Murders in the Building. While everyone (including us here at Last Night On) expected Steve Martin to show up, Martin Short quickly nixed those expectations.

35 Best Adult Cartoons Like Family Guy
Image
For any viewers looking for shows like Family Guy, there are some great adult cartoons available. By using and often subverting the animated family sitcom format popularized by The Simpsons, Family Guy's reign began in 1999, and, like its predecessor, appears to have no end in sight. In recent years, however, long-time archetypes of shows like Family Guy and The Simpsons have fluctuated in popularity and quality. This has allowed newcomers like Rick and Morty, Big Mouth, Bob's Burgers, and Invincible to contend for the after-dark TV throne.

Even loyal viewers of Family Guy's 22-plus seasons don't need to search that far in order to find an alternative to Seth MacFarlane's flagship cartoon. Shaped by audience expectations and the evolution of both animation and storytelling styles, modern adult cartoons rival live-action series and movies in just about any category. The best adult cartoons around are among the best animated shows available anywhere,...
