A Mario game that's out of this world part 2

10 out of 10 - A Sequel That Dared to Outshine a Masterpiece

How do you follow up Super Mario Galaxy, one of the most beloved and groundbreaking games of all time? Most developers would play it safe. Nintendo? They said let's go harder, faster, stranger, and even more fun. And they delivered.

Super Mario Galaxy 2 isn't just a worthy sequel - it's an evolution. A leaner, tougher, more focused version of the original cosmic journey, with new ideas hitting you at every turn like meteor showers. And somehow, it all works.

No More Observatory - Just Pure Platforming

Where the first game used Rosalina's Observatory as a peaceful, story-rich hub, Galaxy 2 trims the fat and gets straight to the action. The world map is simple, direct, and allows for faster access to levels. It's not better or worse - it's different. More arcade-like. And for those hungry for challenge and gameplay, it's a dream.

Yoshi Returns - And Steals the Show

The green dinosaur makes his long-awaited return, and he's not just here for nostalgia. Yoshi brings fresh mechanics: flutter jumps, tongue grabs, and wild new power-ups like the Blimp Fruit, Dash Pepper, and Bulb Berry. Every level he's in feels retooled to maximize his abilities - and it's a blast.

    A Gauntlet of Innovation

Nintendo held nothing back. One galaxy might flip gravity on your head mid-jump. The next might turn you into a rock to smash through everything in sight. One moment you're skating on lava; the next, you're riding Yoshi through a sky full of bullet bills. The creativity doesn't just flow - it erupts.

And just when you think you've seen it all, Galaxy 2 throws in the Perfect Run - a postgame level so brutally precise it's achieved legendary status. It's a final test. A love letter to dedicated players.

    Mario Platforming, Refined to Perfection

The core controls are tight. Responsive. Satisfying in every way. The camera, the momentum, the flow - it's the Mario formula at its absolute best, tuned by masters of the craft.

    Final Verdict:

    10 out of 10.

Super Mario Galaxy 2 proves that lightning can strike twice. It takes the brilliance of the original and trims it down into a raw, exhilarating experience. No filler. No fluff. Just pure, inventive gameplay from start to finish.

If the first game was a grand symphony of space and wonder, this one is a wild, genre-defining guitar solo - faster, sharper, and somehow still singing with joy.

In my opinion, Best Mario Game Ever and Best Game of 2010.

Where to start, I loved this game. The story starts out as Mario is being invited to Peaches castle to share some cake with her and watch the star festival. Just then Peach is captured by Bowser AGAIN for the umpteenth time. But Bowser is now giant and is planning to take over the universe. Mario gets in a launch star goes into space, meets a Luna named Luba who gives him a ship if he helps Luba get stars for fuel, and so the adventure begans.

The map is like the way that New Super Mario Bros was. The graphics and controls were great and so was the camera, there were no problems with any of those things at all. The level design was also very creative and breath taking. The boss fights were hard, and got slightly more challenging over time.

The story was kind of short, I beat it in about 7-8 hours, but the ability to go back and get hidden stars gives the game a lot of replay value.

Mario has many abilities in this game like the bee suit and fire suit return, although I was sad that the red star wasn't there anymore. There's also new suits like the cloud suit which lets Mario make clouds under him so he won't fall (favorite suit) and the boulder suit with makes Mario into a rock ball and run over stuff. In this game you can ride Yoshi, who also has abilities also like the chili pepper (run fast), balloon fruit (float in air temporarily), and light fruit (reveals paths).

This game is amazing and I think that so far, it's the best single player game on the wii, is a must have for anyone with a wii, and is worth every penny you spend on it.

Good things: Controls, graphics, level designs, music, length, boss fights, suits, and you get to ride Yoshi.

    Bad things: When it ends.

"Super Mario Galaxy 2" gets a "10/10" with the title of "Perfect".

    Super Mario Galaxy 1.5

After completing Super Mario Galaxy 2 which was actually a chore because for some reason I was never invested in the game at all. I was hoping for something original to a Mario game. You think by now Nintendo would switch things up rather than "Bowser captures the Princess" but that's the extent of the plot.

If there was one thing I was excited about more than anything else, that would be the music in this game. The first Super Mario Galaxy, which is one of my all time favorite games, had a full orchestra to accompany the score and it's probably the best video game, heck better than most movie scores I have ever listened to. It's a real marvel and Super Mario Galaxy 2 is no exception. I still think the first one had the upper hand cause it had the Good Egg Galaxy theme. If you don't know what it is, look it up on youtube or something.

But the core of the Mario games has always been about gameplay and although Mario's gameplay is fun, it doesn't really deviate too much from the original. You still waggle the controller for Mario's spin attack and the butt stomps and flying across to different planets. Nothing much as changed there. The only real addition is the use of Yoshi which adds an extra layer to the gameplay. Mario finds an egg, hatch it and ride Yoshi and uses his tongue to eat things and swing across. Sometimes you get these hot peppers and Yoshi runs real fast. These areas are quite fun.

One thing that always bothered me about Mario games is that for a game for kids, Mario sure picks on enemies a lot. He reminds me of a bully in school wanting your lunch money. In this case, Mario would bully a sleeping monster or a baby still in its egg and he would pick a fight with it just to kill it and steal that star he's been looking for. As I'm fighting this enemy that I just woke up from its sleep, I felt it was no wonder this thing wanted to kill me. If I was woken by someone landing on me or simply hitting me, I might try to fight you too.

It's still a Mario game and there are surprises in store like the Throwback Galaxy which I had a lot of fun in. Not a lot of the worlds you go in really impressed me this time. In fact, I wanted them over with quickly, which thank God it does. However, Mario is Mario and I'm hoping for a third installment in the series that will take a little more chances with this franchise.

I wonder what the next new Mario game after Galaxy is going to be. Super Mario Other Dimension?
