You, Me & The Circus

What an amazing movie! I stumbled upon this looking for something in the vein of Bob Fosse, and was not disappointed. A complex character piece full of emotional depth, with a sarcastic tragic chorus in the form of a modern Brechtian circus. I can't believe that this film has not received more kudos. While I was able to catch quite a bit of the symbolism, I know that this is a film that I will have to watch over and over peeling away layers in attempt to reach the core. I probably won't be able to watch it again for a while though because it made me feel quite melancholic, but that only adds to the beauty of this terrific film. I wish I had discovered it sooner.

The movie is oh so unique. It reminds me of Shakespeare's saying, "This world is a stage and we are all actors". The movie follows a day in the life of four people, a couple who are breaking up, and their friends who are connecting. The movie beautifully switches back and forth into a circus show in between, bringing out the literal sarcasm of how the heartaches and relationships of people are simply performances on the stage, being judged by the audience, as an entertainment. Even saying that I was entertained by the movie seems to be underlining their message.

The movie is a naked portrayal of emotions, brilliantly personified by their roles in the circus, and the actors did such an amazing job of it. The entire team who wrote, directed, shot and finally acted in it deserve an applause.

I am surprised that the movie so little known. It deserves a bigger audience. Matt Dallas and Ty Hodges were simply beautiful.
