Lykke Li Covers Nick Cave on Surprise New EP: Stream
Image
Lykke Li has released a new EP of covers.

Titled Covers, the three-song project sees the Swedish singer deliver renditions of “Into My Arms” by Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, “Stand By Me” by Ben E. King, and “Love Hurts’ by The Everly Brothers, showcasing her haunting croon and knack for minimalist arrangements.

The cover of “Into My Arms,” in particular, builds off the stripped back tone of Cave’s original, building out the sonic space with an ethereal, swirling atmosphere and reverb-clad melodies, all while retaining the intimacy of Cave’s lyrics.

Covers arrives today via Play It Again Sam as a surprise, and can be streamed below.

Covers is Li’s first collection of songs since her 2022 album, Eyeye, and follows another cover (of Johnny Cash’s “Ring of Fire”) released in March 2024.

For more, revisit Li’s 2022 appearance on The Story Behind the Song discussing her song “No Rest for the Wicked.

5 games like Doom: The Dark Ages to banish boredom to the demon realm
Doom (2005)
After years of honing his skills on Mars and beyond, the Doom Slayer is getting medieval. Doom: The Dark Ages gives id Software's iconic shooter way more than a coat of dark fantasy paint. Mecha Dragons and new melee mechanics are just two of the twists introduced in this new installment. Games with a similar feel aren't common. Still, discerning players can find this kind of spectacle and carnage if they know where to look. Whether you're hunting for a gothic Fps or a gritty power fantasy, here are some games like Doom: The Dark Ages to blast away the hours.

Doom

If you're looking to catch a similar vibe to Doom: The Dark Ages, Doom is a fine place to start. More grounded than Eternal, Doom keeps its focus on lethality over movement techs. This is where the modern vision of Doom was born. Id Software has since...

The Ori Series Has Sold Over 15 Million Copies After Devs Were Told It Would Be A “Dead Genre”
Image
The two games in the Ori series, Ori And the Blind Forest and Ori and the Will of the Wispshave now collectively sold 15 million copies. The first title in the series was released in 2015 but developer Moon Studios had been working on it for four years before it officially launched. Ori predates the success of other major recent Metroidvania names like Hollow Knight, and Dead Cells, ushering in a new age for the genre.

The games' designer and director, Thomas Mahler, shared the momentous occasion on his X account. In the celebratory post, Mahler calls the milestone "not too shabby" for a game in a genre the developers were warned was "dead" when they began work on the first title.

In other amazing news:The Ori series has now sold more than 15 Million copies. Not too shabby for a Metroidvania and a genre we were told is dead when we started to work on it!

Max’s Spanish Original ‘When No One Sees Us’ Blends Cultural Commentary, Crime Drama and Character Exploration to Subvert Its Procedural Format
Image
Max’s highly anticipated Spanish original series “When No One Sees Us” (“Cuando Nadie Nos Ve”) will premiere internationally on March 7 in all territories where the platform is currently available.

Directed by celebrated filmmaker and screenwriter Enrique Urbizu and starring Spanish icon Maribel Verdú, Mariela Garriga and Austin Amelio (“The Walking Dead”), the Max Original promises to be a standout in the realm of Spanish crime dramas.

The series, which previewed at the 2024 San Sebastián Film Festival, has garnered local critics’ praise. Based on the book of the same name by Sergio Sarria, its story unfolds during Holy Week 2024, where the American way of life at the U.S. Army airbase coexists almost entirely separate from the deep-rooted traditions of Andalusia.

There, Civil Guard sergeant Lucía Gutiérrez (Verdú) investigates the unusual and hyper-violent suicide of a leading local figure and other strange events during the first Holy Week procession. Meanwhile, Magaly...

Max Unveils First Spanish Original, ‘When No One Sees Us,’ Starring ‘The Flash’s’ Maribel Verdú, ‘Mission Impossible’s’ Mariela Garriga
Image
“It’s not TV,” HBO used to claim of itself. Watching the first 12 minutes made public of Enrique Urbizu’s crime thriller “When No One Sees Us,” Max’s first Spanish original sneak-peaked at San Sebastián Festival Monday morning, the legendary HBO slogan came to mind.

Rather than TV, the scenes are pure cinema of the highest order.

In them, a man, Antonio Jiménez, 38, dressed in a white ceremonial robe, kneels, draws a sword, carefully places it to his abdomen, and commits hari-kari.

Then a float of the local virgin edges down a street of whitewashed houses on the first day of Holy Week, in the village of Morón de la Frontera, Andalusia, southern Spain. When it stops, a young man emerges from the packed rows of penitents carrying it and, now out in the street, hallucinates that fellow black-hooded penitents and then the float itself levitate high in the sky.

“Nothing Short of a Miracle”: Cage the Elephant Reflect on Neon Pill, Bonnaroo, and New Video for “Out Loud”
Image
Midway through Cage the Elephant’s new video for Neon Pill single “Out Loud,” the emotion becomes overwhelming. Vocalist Matt Shultz is sitting in a near-empty house, seemingly revisiting his childhood home and all the memories attached to the location. But shortly before the final chorus, we see that same house in ruins — shards of wood on the carpet, shrubbery overgrown, the house condemned. Shultz walks away one last time, the buzzing of the Kentucky woods echoing his steps through the tall grass. (Watch the debut of the new clip below.)

“Out Loud” doesn’t explicitly reveal its inspiration, but it revolves heavily around Matt and guitarist Brad Shultz’ father passing during the pandemic. Even with its oratorical title, Matt counterbalances mourning his father by spelling out intrusive thoughts: “Man, I really messed up now,” he repeats on the chorus. It’s as much a remembrance of his father’s...

7 Best Side Quest Bosses In No Rest For The Wicked (& How To Find Them)
Image
Like any Souls-like game, No Rest for the Wicked is largely defined by its challenging combat and boss fights. Aside from the bosses that progress the main storyline, there are plenty of hidden, powerful enemies found throughout Sacra. Although not imperative to finishing the story, these bosses can drop important items and award experience points.

There are only two main story bosses that the player is required to face in No Rest for the Wicked. Warrick the Torn introduces the town of Sacrament, while the Riven Twins cap off the game. Given that No Rest for the Wicked is still in its early access phase with plenty ahead on the road map, it is very likely that we will receive further encounters in the future.

No Rest For The Wicked: How To Increase Carry Capacity & Inventory Space

Managing carry capacity and inventory space is crucial before setting out on your adventure in No Rest For The Wicked, as it significantly impacts your gameplay experience. Overloading your character with heavy gear affects your weight class and alters stamina and mobility. Fortunately, the game offers options to increase your carry load, allowing you to adjust your stats to suit your preferred playstyle.

Additionally, your character starts with limited inventory space, which can be restrictive as it limits how much loot you can pick up. Fortunately, this drawback can be circumvented with upgrades that expand your storage capabilities. These adjustments help you better manage resources, enabling you to carry more and loot effectively as you navigate through the game's challenges.

“Instead of From rushing to ship a boxed product…”: Even Hidetaka Miyazaki Will Begrudgingly Admit What Ori and the Blind Forest Director Said about Dark Souls
Image
It seems like mass layoffs aren’t the only trend in the current gaming landscape. In the last couple of years, we’ve seen more and more games come out in early access. This is an attempt by the developers to test a product and develop a fanbase before the game officially releases in a complete state. However, this model has led to some questionable ethics, with developers selling unfished games.

Still, the early access model has proven to be a major success for many popular titles such as Dead Cell, Baldur’s Gate 3, and Darkest Dungeon. Recently, Moon Studios came under fire after players reported performance issues in their latest title, No Rest for the Wicked, which debuted in early access. However, the studio’s CEO has talked about the usefulness of the early access model and believes that even popular classics such as Dark Souls could’ve benefitted from it.

No Rest For The Wicked: How To Beat The Riven Twins (Boss Fight)

No Rest For The Wicked presents many engaging and thrilling boss fights, including the formidable Riven Twins. These torn conjoined twins, branded as heretics and imprisoned, are encountered during the 'Servant of God' quest as players traverse The Nameless Pass on a mission from Madrigal. Defeating bosses in the game yields significant Xp and provides valuable rewards, including specialized weapons and gear, making these encounters a crucial aspect of gameplay.

The battle with the Riven Twins can prove particularly challenging for those who are unprepared or under-leveled. Like many bosses in No Rest For The Wicked, the Twins deliver punishing attacks and have a complex moveset that can swiftly deal devastating damage. How To Make A Dual Wield (Dexterity) Build In No Rest For The Wicked
Image
No Rest for the Wicked contains many characteristics of the typical soulslike RPG, including difficult bosses that can half health bars in one hit. For players familiar with the genre, this means that parrying and dodge rolling are essential mechanics to master. Few builds are as evasive as the dual-wield dagger dexterity build.

No Rest for the Wicked first equips the Cerim with the classic sword and shield combination to progress past the tutorial and early phases of Sacra. Once Warrick the Torn has been slain outside the Sacrament city gates, players have far more freedom to experiment. Fast bosses and enemies appear fairly frequently, and being able to maneuver around a boss is almost always a better idea than simply soaking damage.

How To Make A Hammer & Shield (Faith) Build In No Rest For The Wicked
Image
Quick Links Best Weapons and Armor For a Faith Hammer & Shield Build Best Stats To Raise For a Faith Hammer & Shield Build Best Weight Class For a Faith Hammer & Shield Build Best Runes and Gems For a Faith Hammer & Shield Build

In No Rest for the Wicked, different stats scale damage with the various types found across Sacra. Faith is a stat that may appear meaningless stat on the surface, but traditional sword and shield or Warhammer wielders should prioritize Faith as their primary stat. However, the primary stat is just the start of this build, as weapons, armor, Runes, and mechanics are just as important to master.

Every play style, from dual daggers to two-handed Claymores, is viable and is the closest to pure tank players can achieve. Heavy armor and shields make absorbing damage and parrying far easier, while Warhammers are reserved for dealing massive blows to your opponents.

No Rest For The Wicked: How To Make Money Fast (Silver Guide)
Image
From the start of No Rest for the Wicked, its clear that money is hard to come by. There are no shortage of needs that will drain your wallet, from meal recipes to armor repairs. To afford the bare necessities and luxury purchases later down the line, making silver becomes increasingly important.

Unlike other games, looting fallen enemies gives you very little in terms of direct copper or silver. Although the average trash mob might have five coppers on them, this is far from a reliable source of income. Bosses such as Warrick the Torn, Darak Falstead, and more will likely require the Cerim to obtain multiple gear upgrades and repairs to progress throughout Sacra. Thankfully, there are far better ways to make silver in No Rest for the Wicked other than farming foes.

The soulslike genre has been shifting and evolving for over a decade now, and with the rapid release of recent entries like Another Crab's Treasure and No Rest for the Wicked, it's clear just how much has changed over that time. No Rest For The Wicked: Combat Guide
Image
No Rest for the Wicked is an Arpg with distinctive soul-like combat mechanics and difficulty. The dangerous and plague-ridden island of Sacra is filled with hostile enemies, both human and Torn. Mastering combat is essential to survive in this harsh landscape.

Up until this point in the early access of In No Rest For The Wicked, enemies consisted entirely of bandits, but Warrick provides an entirely new challenge. With lightning-fast speed and wide, sweeping attacks, this boss fight requires preparation and strategy.

How To Fix Your Gear In No Rest For The Wicked (Repair Guide)
Image
Your gear, armor, and weapons in No Rest For the Wicked significantly affect their usage throughout all stages of the game. By finding ways to replace or repair the damage done to it, players will have an easier time clearing the content. This is very important to note since dying penalizes you heavily, tearing up your gear's durability very fast.

Thankfully, in a soulslike like No Rest For The Wicked, there are a few ways the game covers this issue every time you respawn in No Rest For the Wicked. However, if you want to avoid rolling for a random chance at finding the specific items to help with repairs, consider doing other side quests to unlock a repair feature. An item's general durability can be found on the inventory screen with a scale of 0-100. Once the item is in the red zone close to 0, your character will not...

How To Choose (& Change) Your Weight Class In No Rest For The Wicked

One of the most important aspects of your build in No Rest for the Wicked is the Weight Class, which you can choose and change as you continue your adventure. Three different settings for this stat affect your movement speed and how much gear you can equip for your character. The differences between Weight Classes can not only your speed but also what attacks you can perform against various enemies.

No Rest For The Wicked Roadmap: Updates To Expect In Early Access
Image
No Rest for the Wicked offers a blend of Diablo-style ARPGs and soulslikes, but is still a work-in-progress as an early access title. Planned updates include multiplayer, new areas for story content, equipment, enemies, and even farming elements. Developer Moon Studios is actively addressing launch issues through hotfixes and is collecting feedback for future improvements.

No Rest for the Wicked is a fascinating new blend of Diablo-style ARPGs and soulslikes, but it's also a game that could use some improvements at the moment. With a gorgeous art style and fluid, expressive animations, No Rest for the Wicked is certainly attention-grabbing. As an early access release, however, it's a work-in-progress rather than a finished product, and its future should be focused on polishing what's currently there and adding new features on top of it.

It's fairly common practice for early access releases to be guided by public roadmaps, which...

The PlayStation 5 is the console that is preferred by the majority in 2024, and the numbers prove it. The ninth generation of consoles is another in which Sony has proved its worth and has fortified its place in the market.

No Rest For The Wicked Preview: "An Absolutely Beautiful Sense Of Detail"
Image
No Rest for the Wicked offers exciting Arpg combat with a Souls-like twist. Gameplay includes scavenging, fighting, and harvesting resources in a beautifully rendered world. Technical issues with the preview made it difficult to get a full grasp of the game's potential.

No Rest for the Wicked is the newest game from Moon Studios, the company behind the Ori games, and anyone familiar with the work of the studio knows that it's gorgeous. It's also fluid, challenging, and deeply atmospheric, all highlights that No Rest for the Wicked seems hellbent on upholding. This time, though, these concepts play out in an action RPG space, and the uniqueness of resulting concoction is immediately intriguing.

In time with No Rest for the Wicked's digital showcase, "Wicked Inside," Screen Rant was able to go hands-on with the early stages of the game and get a feel for what makes it tick. No Rest for the Wicked...

‘Campolivar’ Director Alicia Moncholi’s ‘Weekends,’ Turning on Childhood Trauma, Advances in Development at Oberon Media (Exclusive)
Image
Alicia Moncholí, winner of the New Directors of Asturias Award for her latest short, “Campolivar,” is developing her first feature film, the coming-of-age drama “Weekends,” just announced as one of the five titles in development set to be presented at the Second Spanish Screenings on Tour.

They unspool at Rome’s Mia forum, which takes place Oct. 9-13.

“Weekends,” like “Campolivar,” is set up at Barcelona-based Oberón Media, launched in 2018 by Antonio Chavarrías, producer of Berlin Golden Bear winner “The Milk of Sorrow” and director of “The Chosen,” and Mexico’s Mónica Lozano, producer of Alejandro González Iñarritu’s “Amores Perros” and Eugenio Derbéz’s “Instructions Not Included.”

Selected at the 9th edition of Dama Ayuda, where Moncholí was tutored by Michel Gaztambide, “Weekends” was put through Spain’s Residencias de la Academia 2023 program and Acció Viver de Dones Visuals, a 7th-month development initiative.

When Can You Play Payday 3 On Xbox Game Pass? (Unlock Times & Regions)
Image
The imminent release of Payday 3 on September 21, 2023 will see the game launching day one on Game Pass. Xbox's popular subscription service now has a bona fide rival in PlayStation Plus, since Sony's Extra and Premium subscription tiers offer a similarly expansive library of games. Payday 3, however, won't be coming to Ps+ on day one, even though the game will be available for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. As has become increasingly popular, Game Pass subscribers should be able to play Payday 3 as soon as it becomes available digitally.

Payday 3 is the decade-in-the-making sequel to 2013's Payday 2, and looks to be building on its predecessor's cooperative bank-robbing gameplay. Perhaps unsurprisingly, Payday 3 is adopting a live-service model in order to deliver post-launch support. This unfortunately comes with Payday 3 requiring an internet connection – a double-edged sword that delivers cross-progression functionality to a game centered on its online co-op, but is unplayable offline.

Payday 3 Hands-On Preview: Chaotic & Collaborative Heisting Fun
Image
Payday 3 marks the triumphant return of the beloved heisting franchise, offering more ways for players to customize their criminal than ever before. The game comes from Starbreeze Studios, the developer behind Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons and the Chronicles of Riddick series, and publisher Deep Silver, which has previously released titles like Dead Island 2 and Chorus. Screen Rant participated in a special hands-on session with Payday 3 that showcased its co-op gameplay and extensive personalization features.

It's clear Payday 3's early development troubles haven't negatively impacted the final result - the game maintains the same silly, over-the-top energy of its predecessors while adding new layers of depth to its gameplay. The shooter will offer six characters at launch: Dallas, Chains, Wolf, Hoxton, and even Joy - who came to Payday 2 as promotion for the Nintendo Switch release - will return to the title, alongside new heister Pearl. She was described...

For Mark Sheppard, One Supernatural Episode Stands Above The Rest
Image
It goes without saying that Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean Winchester (Jensen Ackles) are the heart of "Supernatural." Throughout its 15-season run, the monster-slaying brothers were the face of the CW series: its story begins and ends with them, saving people, hunting things and living up to their family legacy. But its also true that they couldn't have saved the world from multiple apocalypses without a little help from their friends.

As the seasons progressed, what began as a story about two brothers searching for their father became a beautiful example of the power of found family. It's hard to remember a time before Castiel (Misha Collins) was a core part of their team and, while he's only introduced in the last couple of seasons, Jack Kline (Alexander Calvert) later becomes a crucial addition to their family.

Netflix Spain Unveils Plans for Early 2021, Including Seven New Film and TV Originals
Image
At one of its increasingly regular presentations, on Thursday Netflix Spain unveiled seven new projects including “If Only,” a Spanish adaptation of the Netflix Turkish original canceled before shooting by Turkish authorities.

Where once Netflix would host its presentations early in the year and announce its ambitions for the next 12 months, the platform’s original Spanish programming pipeline has grown to an extent that Thursday’s showcase only covers the next few months and hinted at plenty more to come in late 2021.

In both level and volume of production, the day’s announcements confirm Netflix as one of if not the, foremost investors in original Spanish series and movies, at the same as its talent pool is expanding to include ever more of the principal producers in Spain. New Netflix originals are now being produced by now-regular partners Nostromo, producers of “The Minions of Midas”; “Élite” producers Zeta Studios; “Money Heist...
