Avis à la une
I really enjoyed the 2020 one but I found this edition much less entertaining. I guess the year just wasn't as interesting to comment on.
They brought back probably my two favourite characters from the previous one in the average British and American woman and added a news woman who I thought was a lot of fun as well so there were definitely moments I found hilarious.
Again the majority focuses on America but they manage to squeeze in a few moments of world news.
Overall just not very funny for my taste and the commentary wasn't exactly groundbreaking.

I suspected that lightning would not strike twice. This is pretty much same old same old, since 2021 was a continuation of 2020 and just as f---ked up as 2020 was (which Samuel L. Jackson, sadly missing from this year's special, would surely have said).
There is the usual assortment of supporters of the former guy posting comments about this special, blathering about leftist Hollywood, liberal NetFlix, and how the special was too easy on "Sleepy Joe." It isn't...but as Joe is not a deranged and delusional, eclipse-staring anti-intellectual and anti-science bully and blowhard who tells Americans to inject Lysol to fend off COVID and hurricanes what states to strike with a Sharpie, there's not as much material to satirize him. January 6 is covered, of course. But so is the Afghanistan debacle, which another poster claimed was totally missing.
Lucy Liu, Stockard Channing, and Tracey Ullman (barely recognizable as a spray-tanned Jeanine Pirro-like nut) are the new additions and they breath new life in this special, and are hilarious. Liu has great comic timing I never noticed before.
The rest of the cast, including Hugh Grant, Diane Morgan, and Joe Keery, are brought back from last year, along with Laurence Fishburne as narrator. They repeat the same schtick from last year but are not as funny. Jackson, Lisa Kudrow, Leslie Jones, and Kumail Nanjiani are missing from this one, and sorely missed as they were the best characters from Death to 2020. Stockard Channing is a great replacement for Leslie Jones' cynical character, though. She has the best lines.
Watch Don't Look Up instead, which is a longer time investment (over 2 hours) but sums up the year, particularly the celebrity and social media obsessions and anti-science movement, better.

I was watching this hoping for them to make fun of both sides which they did to some extent but then again started adding handfuls of propaganda for seasoning. I am here for it but wish they had brought out the ridiculousness of both sides not just been presenting one side as irrational and the other as wise and progressive which its not and this comes from someone who is removed from the politics of this region and is a neutral observer.
Not as funny as last year's and definitely more left wing. Everyone has an agenda, even Netflix. It has its humour, and it's clever narrative on climate change, Covid and the royals. But still, Netflix, please believe in something bigger. Please believe that, similar to the Chinese government, you are hypocrites, promoting socialism and equality for all mankind, but actually closet conservative capitalists, raking in a huge profit for the few and far between.
It has some good footage that I hadn't seen before. I think there was an attempt to make fun of the Liberals too, not just the Conservatives, but whoever made this was clearly a Leftist or Democrat leaning Moderate.
Not many lol moments, but still an entertaining watch.
