The best kind of fan service!

Is this a dumb movie/Special? Defiantly. Am I still a kid inside who enjoyed it? Of course! This is so damn fun from start to finish and if you are any kind of Yu-Gi-Oh fan do yourself a Favor and watch this. Turn of all the logical nerves in your body and just let nostalgia wash over you. I don´t think I ever watched this from start to finish but maybe I have and have forgotten it, but anyways now it´s watch and now I can say this is so fun but man is it a poor plot!

Yusei Fudo has to go back in time to stop a villain who wants to destroy duel monsters since the game will destroy the future. Yusei gets the help from Jaden Yuki and the king of games Yugi Muto.

This is a great fan service movie and it is also a 10 year anniversary one so that makes sense. This is primarily a 5D movie, an anime I did not watch that much of, but I am well versed in The first YU-GI-Oh anime and GX, huge parts of my childhood. I also play the actual card game so it's always fun to see how it unfolds. It doesn't matter too much how the plot is set up, this is just fanservice from start to finsih and its so fun and hype to see the many protagonist summon their cards and exchange banter. This is just pure nostalgic fun. I really loved Yugi and Jaden doesn't know what Synchro summoning is. Sadly I feel like Jaden is a bit underutilized here compared to Yugi, but overall it's okay. It's also wonderful to hear Dan Green as Yugi.

The duel this movie is dependent on is short and sweet and works well. There is some good tension and its cool to see the different protagonist work with each other. Now does the duel make any logical sense? No. The fact that the villain can go every other turn, while the three protagonist has to switch between who takes the lead makes no sense at all from a logical and duel standpoint as one who play the game, but of course it works out in the end. The cards are great and the monsters are iconic and cool.

The dialogue here is not the best. It is a kids show of course, but it's just a lot of protagonist nonsense overall. Jaiden's voice actor in English is not the best here and the villains dialogue is more or less just "Yes, indeed"

The time travel plot makes no sense and even the protagonist don't understand how time travel works. This is the classical, time travel in moves are frustrating part that I have with 99% of time travel movie since they rarely makes any sense. Here the villain comes from a future destroyed by duel monsters but Yusei is like "we can change the future it has not happened yet" Uhm yes it has! The villain is actually doing what he things is right and It makes sense, but I guess it's not worth destroying the past for it. Anyways the time travel part is bad and makes no sense.

The end credits is just a huge commercial for the cards shown in the duel and it's kind of cringe but at the same time the anime is just a huge commercial of course. But playing the different themes from the animes made up for it.

This was a blast and I had so much fun, but again, man the plot is bad and the dual makes no sense. I´m glad it's not too long though since that would have made duels drag out, the biggest problem with card game animes. But I'm still left nostalgic and having kid fun watching this.

    Why did I watch this?

I genuinely don't remember why I watched this. It was utterly absurd. Card games on motorcyles? Time travel? Three Yu-Gi-Oh! series crossing over into one? I still got the gist of it and it wasn't badly made.

    • Anecdotes
Most of the voice actors from the original series reprise their roles in this film except for Cassandra Lee Morris, who was unavailable and Madeleine Blaustein, who passed away a few years before the voice recording was filmed.
    • Gaffes
After Yugi uses Kuriboh to absorb Paradox's attack, Jaden is the one who points out Stardust Dragon's effect. Stardust Dragon is a card that belongs to Yusei and did not exist while Jaden was a duelist, therefore Jaden should have no knowledge of that card's effects.

Crow Hogan: Why did he even take your card in the first place?

Yusei Fudo: Probably to humiliate me in front of my girlfriend.

Aki Izayoi: Oh, don't be silly, Yusei! You know I'd never be embarrassed...

Yusei Fudo: For the last time, I'm dating a motorcycle!

Aki Izayoi: But why date a motorcycle when you could have me?

      Yusei Fudo: Tell her, Jack.

      Jack Atlas: Girls are smelly!

Yusei Fudo: He's right. They are.
