Edward Brooks, the mathematics genius at the center of Apple TV+’s new thriller Prime Target, isn’t yet aware that his research on prime numbers will lead him down dangerous paths that eventually collide with the National Security Agency. But in the two episodes that premiered on Wednesday, he starts to get an idea of the surprising peril to which 29, 53, 71 and other innocent-looking numerals might lead him. Screen Ireland has appointed Kate McColgan as its incoming head of TV, taking over from Andrew Byrne.
McColgan brings over 20 years of industry experience, including working across production and development for Parallel Films, the Weinstein Company and Element Pictures; head of European production for US distributor MPI Media; and launching MTV Arabia Television across the UAE and Arab regions.
As a producer, McColgan’s credits include features Galway premiere The Drummer And The Keeper and Sky Original The Heist Before Christmas.
She begins the Dublin-based role in February, supporting Irish writers, directors and producers across the process from development to production.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences announced on Monday the 207 feature films eligible for Best Picture consideration, two days before voting for the 2025 Oscar nominations begins.
There are 323 feature films eligible for the Academy Awards, but just 207 met the Best Picture competition eligibility requirements.
As stated by the Academy in a press release, “To be eligible for consideration in the general entry categories, under rules implemented for the 97th Academy Awards year, feature films must open in a commercial motion picture theater in at least one of six U.S. metropolitan areas: Los Angeles County; the City of New York; the Bay Area; Chicago, Illinois; Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas; and Atlanta, Georgia, between Jan. 1, 2024, and Dec. 31, 2024, and complete a minimum qualifying run of seven consecutive days in the same venue. Feature films must have a running time of more than 40 minutes.”
But Best Picture eligibility is different. Films under consideration...
