Avis à la une
Video Girl (2011) is a movie I recently watched on Tubi. The storyline follows a girl struggling to make it through college after a car accident who decides to shift gears in life when she gets a boyfriend who directs music videos and pays her well. She ascends to fame after several videos and with fame comes attention, scrutiny and drugs... Can she keep her life and lifestyle together or will her new fast paced lifestyle swallow her up?
This movie is directed by Ty Hodges (Bobbi Kristina) and stars Meagan Good (Brick), Juelz Santana (End of Watch), Melyssa Ford (Think Like A Man), Melyssa Ford (Dinner Party), LisaRaye McCoy (The Players Club) and Haylie Duff (Napoleon Dynamite).
The storyline for this had potential and the high level plot is pretty good but the writing and execution is inconsistent. The acting is very up and down. I thought Good delivers a solid performance but some of the supporting cast were much weaker (Sen, Ben-Victor and Ford could have been much better). The movie doesn't hit the mark on the intensity and lifestyle as well as it could. The pressures and rape scenes are there but the drama around those circumstances wasn't on the same level of better films like Requiem for a Dream or Leaving Las Vegas. The script and dialogue was also inconsistent in terms of writing and delivery.
Overall this is a step up from made for TV but a step down from the intensity it needed to be. This could be a good movie if completely redone and rewritten. I would score this a 4/10 and recommend skipping it.

Video Girl is a Winner that delivers! Megan Good never disappoints, and sizzles in this film alongside her drop dead gorgeous male co-star. With an Amazing cast, and an edge of your seat script, this film is a must watch each time it is broadcast. I give this film a 10 out of 10 stars., and have never seen Megan in a film that was not Fantastic! Megan Good is not only the Most Beautiful Woman in Hollywood, but she's also a gifted actress. With a career which has spanned the years from her as aan adolescent through adulthood, everything she she played in only served as a stepping stone to the top of her pulpit for success! Her star has shone brightly and shows no sign of dimming. She is under used and should be used more often in the mainstream.
This Movie Absolutely Awful Hated Every Last Minute Of This Movie It's Really That Bad Stay Far Away From This Movie
What to do when you get rich and famous? The movie tries to give us quite a few perspectives ... actually it never entirely tells us what is 100% right or wrong. Because while there is more than argument to be made, that Meagan Good is in a toxic relationship (or at least one that is suffocating her), some of the advice she is getting from that man ... is not that bad at all. So there are some shades of grey to be found here.
It also is quite the warning to what to do - or maybe not to do. At first it seems quite straight with becoming famous for being in music videos. Of course there is more to it though - a lot of things that can go wrong for example. It is not the greatest movie ever made, but it has a few things going for it. And if you are a fan of the main actress I don't need to convince you anyway.
The movie still has a lot of cliches, that you either let them get away with or have issues with.

Overall I enjoyed the movie, but IMO it was too slow getting off the ground. Luckily, I DVR'd it so I watched it in my spare time while eating here and there.. In addition, the characters could of been developed more fully. The main character seemed to do a 180 degree turn for no reason and there was really no build up to that. Also, Bun B's character and the incident that caused the climax was a bit random as well. The only consistent character was the Director (the cutie from Training Day) who chose the video girl to begin with. If the goal of the story was to deter young girls form making bad decisions or choose another career besides dancing in Hip Hop videos- I didn't get that. What I got was a small town girl who got an opportunity of a lifetime, but blew it by biting the hand that fed her and ultimately making poor choices. Were her choices a result of what happened in her family, was her boyfriend abusing her? That's where more character development could of come in..
