A Long, Slow, Sad and Beautiful Dream

It's hard to describe Death Stranding, as a dream-like experience about love, loss, loneliness, connection and stranding, all amid a stark and beautiful world.

You can have fun (as I did) delivering packages across middle America and knocking out crazed MULEs to get the materials to keep all the roads and machines in working order, as well as donate things to your fellow players. And that's a fine thing to do. But don't get lost in that, as it can all be done after the story, and I suggest that you play it that way.

I would describe the game as an experience, something to be taken in a bit at a time. It encompasses a kind of beautiful melancholy in a way that's hard to describe, and is well worth crossing the snow-capped mountains and rocky valleys for. Ultimately it's a tale of longing amid fear, connection amid isolation, and hope amid extinction.

    'S' Tier Delivery

This Game has Bridged the gap between Film and Interactive Entertainment. If you want a Cinematic Experience, look no further than DS. Become a Porter today!

Death Stranding stands as a powerful author's game which drives a strong message of how our over-connected society is evolving, and how we can help other players. Unlike many AAA games, it shines on a truly spiritual level.

But my favorite part of walking in Death Stranding is that it's slow and often quiet. Video games, especially triple-A video games, rarely give the player a second to think. We are constantly bombarded with stimuli such as new things to shoot, new explosions to run from, or any number of other things the developer has inserted out of fear that we may get bored with their game, even if only for a second. While a lot is certainly going on in Death Stranding, especially narratively, it's not afraid to be quiet. To leave the player alone for upwards of an hour to just do their thing. To just walk and complete their task.

Death Stranding Director's Cut: Enhanced Vision, Unmatched Experience

Death Stranding Director's Cut takes Hideo Kojima's masterpiece and enriches it, adding a layer of depth that enhances the experience without altering the original vision. Returning to this world with the Director's Cut felt like coming back to a familiar, awe-inspiring place, now with even more to explore. For those who fell in love with the original, the Director's Cut offers new tools, missions, and quality-of-life improvements that deepen the immersion while maintaining the game's distinctive atmosphere.

One of the highlights of the Director's Cut is the array of new delivery support tools, like the cargo catapult and the stabilizer, which make Sam's journey across rugged terrain even more engaging. These additions blend seamlessly into the world, adding a fresh dynamic to the core gameplay. The cargo catapult, for instance, allows you to launch supplies over difficult terrain, creating new strategic options that feel natural in this environment. Meanwhile, the stabilizer makes descending cliffs a smoother experience, reinforcing the game's focus on connection and persistence.

It's important to recognize that Death Stranding is more than just a game about a "delivery man." Sam Porter Bridges is, in every sense, a hero. His journey is one of resilience, courage, and selflessness in a world where every step he takes can make a difference to others. The idea of connecting isolated people across dangerous terrain may seem simple, but in a world as fractured as this one, it's an act of profound bravery and purpose. Sam's role as a "porter" is a noble one, symbolizing the power of connection and the courage to bridge divides-qualities that define a true hero.

The Director's Cut also introduces subtle yet brilliant touches of humor that enhance the experience. Kojima's unique style of blending tension with quirky, lighthearted moments shines through, balancing the game's weighty themes. There's a clever sense of humor in everything from Sam's exaggerated stumbling to his occasional missteps on rugged terrain, adding a touch of humanity and fun to the journey. Interacting with BB also brings a surprising amount of charm and warmth, as Sam's comforting gestures and playful moments create a bond that's genuinely touching. These little moments of levity remind you that even in a desolate world, there's space for humor, connection, and joy.

And for virtual photographers, Death Stranding Director's Cut offers one of the most advanced and detailed photo modes available. The freedom and control it provides are unparalleled, allowing for stunning captures of its breathtaking landscapes. It's a virtual photographer's paradise, capturing every rain-soaked mountain, windswept plain, and sunlit cliff in cinematic detail. Kojima's vision is brought to life so vividly that every frame tells a story, making this photo mode arguably the best of its kind.

The new missions and facilities in the Director's Cut add even more depth to the story. Each mission is thoughtfully crafted, expanding the lore without disrupting the original narrative's flow. The additional combat mechanics, including the firing range and Maser Gun, give players new ways to approach encounters, adding variety without detracting from the game's meditative, reflective nature. These enhancements build on the original, keeping the focus on exploration and connection but adding a fresh sense of discovery.

Visually, the Director's Cut offers a more refined experience. The landscapes are as stunning as ever, but the increased fidelity brings every texture, shadow, and raindrop to life in even greater detail. The visual upgrades immerse you further in the hauntingly beautiful world of Death Stranding, making each journey across the landscape feel even more impactful. The soundtrack remains a powerful presence, and experiencing it again in this enhanced version is just as moving, with songs that echo through the wilderness, capturing the beauty and solitude of Sam's journey.

What I appreciate most about the Director's Cut is how it preserves the soul of Death Stranding while enriching it. Kojima's message of connection, hope, and resilience resonates even more deeply with these additions. Returning to Death Stranding with these new tools, missions, and improvements felt like rediscovering a beloved place with fresh eyes, appreciating details that perhaps I hadn't noticed the first time. The lighthearted, playful moments, whether from interactions with BB or the humor woven into Sam's every stumble and stride, remind us that even in solitude, there's joy and connection to be found.

In summary, Death Stranding Director's Cut is a beautiful, respectful expansion of Kojima's original vision. For anyone who enjoyed Death Stranding, the Director's Cut is a must-play that enhances the journey without overshadowing it. It's a masterpiece made even better, and it leaves me eagerly awaiting the next chapter in this one-of-a-kind series.

    10/10

Incredible journey. I recommend everyone to play this game, enjoy the mood that Hideo Kojima create for audience, and experience the theartical story which implies the topic of connection. Besides, I really really love Norman Reedus, Lea Seydoux, Margaret Qualley and other great actor in DS, they really presented wonderful performances. Some people may don't like this game, saying its boring, awful gameplay and so on, but once you calm down and focus on feeling the journey, I believe you'll feel the real satisfaction. In this moment, the DS2 is about to realese, hope I can find some real enjoyment while playing it. Love you! DS. Love you! Kojima. And fxxk you! Konami :)
