The Great Indian Kitchen is a representation of most of the middle class family of India. The direction of the movie is fantastic that if we watch the full movie with our most focused mind we will be forced to withdraw our attention from the movie and here is the greatness of the movie that we can feel the regular boring and as well as hard life of a woman in a so called patriarchal society. Another movie titled "Jaya Jaya Jaya Jaya Hai" is also represent this type of critical environment but with a mixture of spices of comedy and unreality but this movie does not lack that thing. It has every element that can meet us the face to face with the absolute reality of women's condition in most of the world.
The movie focuses on stigmatising the Indian traditions, so pointlessly that it becomes at some point sordid to watch the movie.
Add to this the recent controversy of women entering Sabarimala temple and the poor movie maker thought, it might be the perfect recipe for a controversy.
Throw in a little menstrual fluid, they might thought, the movie will get a PIL notice at least and viewership of the movie on OTT at least is guaranteed.
At some point, little did they realise that harping on a point too much makes it stale.
I am sorry for Aishwarya to have undertaken such movies. Would be a blow to her career.

It may be good first half showing the poorness of a newly married wife but the second half is very disappointing. Any hindu women will definitely know how to be in time of periods and what to do. Is the m and c women goes against their cultures? Very worst film ever!! Unnecessarily dragged sabarimala issue and finally she left her husband and went on, what to do 😒
Our Indian culture is not like western, if you get a problem to breakup and move on. Every family has its own problems they need to solve by discussing openly with each other. Yes may be the male domination is not right as in movie, she has to question them not to insult them and insult culture.
Director R.kannan intentions are pure, just want to give a clear msg to the male chuvanistic propaganda that remains tagged as family head for ages in the past or be it future, keeps subtle and serves as a faithful to the original....
Aishwarya Rajesh holds the key of the movie, her performance will definitely fetch her some household name among female audiences and is a milestone in her career...
Rahul Ravindran is not upto the mark remains as a mute spectator in viewers point of view especially emotion or anger situation seems to be pale and calm expression
Overall a worthy package to watch out that serves a must see verdict or remake for every indian language...
Some film makers seem to think that they can get away with portraying rubbish and pass it off as a pathbreaking effort- such is this film. It presents a family and a way of life that is set supposedly in the present but which is so unnatural as to be irrelevant to any point in the history of the Tamil region. It presents two good for nothing men scavenging on the efforts of two extremely stressed and overworked women- one of whom in the mother in law and the other is a young wife. There are enough sore thumbs in the social fabric to push the daughter in law to the brink but the film maker brings in an unconnected issue of Sabarimala and makes it pivotal to the daughter in law's exit from the marriage.
The film is clearly agenda driven with the clear motive to demean a particular religion, a way of life. The grotesque and callous misinterpretation of customs and practices have only one thing in mind - the destruction of a valued tradition which is totally condemnable.
