Handlarz cudów

I was truly impressed by "Handlarz cudow" (A Miracle Seller). The plot is about Stefan, a recovering alcoholic, who collects money for a pilgrimage to the miracle-famous sanctuary in Lourdes. There he hopes to receive a special grace that will finally help him overcome his illness. His initially unwanted travel companions are a pair of teenagers from Chechnya, Urika (Sonia Mietielica) and Hasim (Roman Golchuk), who want to find their father in France. The film's action is not rushed, but it is eventful enough to keep the viewer interested. Stefan discovers a different kind of therapy, one that is not based on egocentric and empty religious zeal but on helping others. For me, this part of the plot is exceptionally true and based on knowledge of the mechanism of alcoholism or other addiction. And Urika and Hasim meet for the first time a European who cares about them but is also outraged by their custom of giving a 13th girl in marriage, and on top of that, to a man she has never seen. So both sides will probably never forget their journey together. On top of that, we have truly great acting by Borys Szyc. So I was really moved and touched by "A Miracle Seller" and for me this film is wise and deeply humane.
