Avis à la une
A refreshing sapphic teen romcom, one I wish I had grown up with. Some cheesy jokes with lots of funny references, I really enjoyed this and recommend it if you're looking for something lighthearted and adorable.
I need a sequel! Finally, we can have a light-hearted, light-angst sapphic movie. All my life, I've been watching movies of this genre that had straight people in it. I loved those movies too, of course, but seeing it with sapphics really makes it even better! I can finally see myself in this genre. I love this, please make a sequel!

I enjoyed every minute, it's a warm evening sunday movie to finally end the reign of sad queer movies. Something light and fun for teenagers to identify themselves.
It's a classic coming of age / High School romance movie, so expect all the elements you'd usually expect.
This being said, even with the most common genres, you can put heart into it or less so.
And this one definitely has heart!
Both Blanchard and Cravalho put emotional depth into their performance, Alvarez and Dunn are nice as the couple/Best friends of the protagonist (and Alvarez especially has the funniest zing and quips), the principal has no time for students' drama...
Many of these kind of movies feel like a series of pre-chosen scenes that neither the actors nor the director seem to really believe in nor be into - this one felt like they were enjoying their time there, and it passes on to the audience.
Simple, yet sweet, relaxing and enjoyable.

I don't often use the word perfect when it comes to a movie but this one comes really close.
This movie is meant to be a lighthearted sapphic romance and it does it's job admirably. You can tell that the writers have spent a lot of time on sapphic Ao3 because they nail every beloved trope perfectly.
The cast is wonderful as well. Auli'i Cravalho is a revelation. I have rarely seen someone representing pining so well Mega Mullaly is hilarious and plays such an amazing mom. Rowan Blanchard does a fine job of playing a gay mess
An especially great thing is that there is zero homophobia in this movie. Not unlike Schitt's Creek queer people here are just allowed to be without having to constantly represent the everyday day they face
Of course this movie is not for anyone. It's meant for the queer community and if you are not part of it a lot of it might go over your head or make you angry(the way several borderline homophobic reviews have already shown).

- AnecdotesDuring the scenes where AJ and Paige are training, there are several signs behind them advertising local businesses. These fake businesses are actually references to teen films from the 80s and 90s, including Stratford Sisters Paintball (10 Things I Hate About You) and Baby's Dance Studio (Dirty Dancing)
