The Mountain Detective

After watching the first six episodes on Prime,, I'm ready to watch season 2. To be honest, two shows in season 1 were pretty awful and had a totally different feeling, but the other episodes were so good I stuck with it. The basic premise is that the lead character was an urban cop in Marseille and had his fill of the city life, particularly as it pertained to his line of work. He and his new colleagues at the extremely casual rural police station are quite believable and dedicated get neither respect nor cooperation from the citizenry, but the keep plugging away. For viewers who aren't quite fluent in French, most characters in the series speak fairly clearly and free of difficult regional dialects.

This film is part of a series titled Alex Hugo on IMDb but The Mountain Detective on Prine and PBS. Somehow this episode has been given the original title and is out of order. I hope IMDb can fix this.

It is an excellent series. The main character, Alex Hugo, is a retired policeman who moved to a mountainous area and assists the police in that area. He also works with some agents who work fighting terrorism. The scenery is extraordinarily beautiful. I'm not sure where it was filmed but I'd sure like to go there. The acting is very, very good. And the episodes I've seen deal with issues that are contemporary and significant today. I love this series.

All the seasons are listed on IMDB under the lead character's name, "Alex Cesar" as it is called in France. PBS shows it as "The Mountain Detective" but as seems to be normal doesn't have all the seasons. Just Watch is even less helpful- it is under "The Mountain Detective" and only had a single season as of this writing. It's not apparent why the show needed to be renamed at all but may have something to do with it being subtitled and presumably distributed by way of the United Kingdom. Hopefully IMDB AI will screen this review and correct the error! I am sure there is a better way to do it but I don't know how.

What an excellent series!! Storylines are intense and not always predictable! Characters are enjoyable. The scenery is incredible. Hope to have access to the next season. Will it be available on PBS Masterpiece streaming app?

The actors are outstanding, each so unique to the story. In fact, they seem like authentic characters. Each episode is greatly enhanced by the in-depth development of every person. Mountain climbing, sky diving, backpacking, etc, intense outdoor scenes are incredible to view. It is intriguing to learn even a trifle of the farm and field work depicted in this location. Each story grabs and holds my attention. I wish there were 20 per season with many, many seasons as I am totally hooked. I am in love with the breathtaking scenery. If only I had learned to speak French, I would love to tour France and the Alps.
