Avis à la une
This is a really good film.
But whoever was in charge for marketing this film needs to lose their job. It is sold in every way as a RomCom. The name of the film, the images just in publicity, even the synopsis reads as a RomCom.
What this movie really is is a deep look at mental health. About struggles we may have in life and the things we think we need to make our problems go away. It's a really challenging piece about society and the world we live in. It's many things. But it is not a Romantic Comedy.
There are outstanding performances from the two leads (who carry about 95% of the whole film).
It really jumps around, there are lots of changes of direction, just when you think you know where it's going, a new layer is revealed.
But because of the awful job done by the marketing team, the audience that will truly appreciate the film will probably pass it by.
People expecting a RomCom will be frustrated, turn off after 15 minutes and leave a bad rating and review.

I was sceptical about the pitch. I was expecting a cheap sci-fi time loop story with a female main character to add some kind of easy romantic lines, just goodish enough to have something playing on while doing something else but in fact no, it was quite interesting and I enjoyed it entirely.
The trailer is actually very deceiving because :
Instead you will get a quite clever psychological story about a girl trying to run from her life through her obsession about a man. It is moving, and generic enough for most of us to identify to. The genre mixing is clever, the sci fy bit is a nice allegory, the comedy side gives some rythme and the drama brings some depth. Congratulations to Noga Pnueli for the story and to Kaley Cuoco, her part is basically the whole movie and she did it well.
My disappointment comes from the feeling of tight schedules and fast editing. There are some very good ideas and a good bas for more twists. A bit more time, work and probably money could have made this movie amazing. Anyway, it was a great surprise and that is rare enough to be saluted.

- If you want sci fi, you will be disappointed
- If you want a comedy, you won't laugh a lot
- If you want romance, well it is served with a sadness topping

I would ignore the trailer. I liked this movie. Like a book you should give it at least 15-20 minutes and if you still aren't intrigued then it's not for you. I think labeling this as a rom com isn't right. It's dark. I think most of the bad reviews from viewers and so called "professional reviewers" I feel didn't closely watch the movie, not their type of genre, have something against Pete Davidson, or just didn't understand it. Then there are those who really didn't like it, which to me are the reviews I respect. No movie is perfect. I think people with mental health struggles will get some type of emotion out of it as there are some scenes that hit deep. Pete and Kaley have awesome chemistry.
Firstly, if you haven't realised by now that going into a movie with very specific expectations based on a synopsis or trailer is a bad idea, I just don't know what to tell you. Reviews are hardly any more reliable but I'm going to try anyway....
Now we have that out of the way -
As others have mentioned, this isn't a rom com. It isn't really a comedy in general; there are genuinely humorous moments (think wry grin as opposed to outright laughter) but the film is not trying hard to be funny as its main objective. It's also not a sci-fi. The time machine essentially serves as a McGuffin, it facilitates the telling of the story but is not central to the actual message of the story. Pulp fiction was not about what is inside the briefcase, and this is not a movie about time travel. It's about emotional baggage, mental health, love and the futility of trying to force someone else to change.
This is one of the better movies I've seen in quite a while. The acting, dialogue and cinematography are great. The plot is smart without trying too hard (Christopher Nolan, I'm looking at you) and deftly tackles some moderately dark subject matter in a tasteful and realistic way.
I hope I've convinced you to give it a try. If not, I'll come back tomorrow and perhaps then it'll work...

I have to agree with other reviewers.. This is not a rom-com. Could be a dark comedy... But it is a (romatic?) drama. And it delivers.
I can see the hate on most of the low rated reviews, not sure if towards Pete or Kaley. Looks like those viewers are expecting to chuckle with anything with Pete on it. (or Kaley for that matter).
Some clearly dont event understand depression.
Yes, there is a time loop here (not a spoiler), but thats not even the point of the movie. If you are trying to make sense of that, you are watching the wrong kind of movie.
Most of us have suffered heartache from broken relationships. Some of us, Feeling alone. And some desperation to fit in a world that doesnt understand us.
You should watch this movie knowing it is an exploration of dark emotions. It might trigger you on some topics, but im almost positive you will end with an uplifting sensation.
And for those complaining of making sense... Time travel never makes sense. Thats a fact.
