Avis à la une
A humored study on the oddity shared by isolated creatures sharing a small place during a critical time. "The Human, the Cat, the Beetle" follows a
lonely man (Pedro Henrique Chaves) during the Covid pandemic living on an apartment with his cat (so freaking cute!), sharing a quiet and boring routine
until the intrusive presence of a beetle changes their routines. Like any cat, the other animal is an object to be tasted, but to the man is something
peculiar that needs to some careful observation, just to follow where the beetle can go or what will it do.
The short proves the point that we all need some forms of distraction and novelty in our lives, and almost anything can fall into such curious distractions, specially during the pandemic years with countless social distancing and staying at home was a challenge (for those who lived that). Even a bug can be a charming distraction. And don't think a second that with all the countless things on the internet, television, or even books could suffice the boredom and kill the routine, we all need something extra, unexpected. And if it's not just our view, the cat for instance. Always curious animals, they look, exhamine things and move to their animal instinct.
Chaves film is great to look at, from the visuals, photography and to the use of sound (though how come this man doesn't even find a time to talk with his cat is amazing. It's so much fun a little of interaction. Cat people know what I'm talking about). I'm curious to read the short story written by actor Johnny Massaro and how it went down - can't find anywhere. But the film speaks volumes with its theme, amidst the quietude of it all with some humor and curiosity. 8/10.
