Avis à la une
The script is superb, mocking regular soap operas and all it's clichés - and when I say all, I really mean it.
All the cast members are mainly actors of those "classic" soap operas, which makes scenes even funnier, and manages to showcase they're acting skylls.
Many references could be lost in translation as they're based on social and portuguese entertainment, but if you liked movies like "Airplane" and "The Naked Gun" mashed up with Monty Python type of comedy, you'll get the overall picture.
Shout out to Rui Melo (actor and writer) and Gabriela Barros (hilarious!!!), Henrique Dias Cardoso (idea/Writer) and all cast and crew (even the score is awesome).
Last but not least, let's not forget the featured band, Jesus Quisto, their music reportoire and all vocal members, the riskier job ever (lol)!
Well done!

'Por do Sol' is a comedy series that tries to mimic a traditional Portuguese soap opera. It takes all of of the usual soap opera cliches (the family struggles in a rural homestead, the illegitimate children, the convulted love triangles, the overly dramatic dialogs, the evil revenge-seeking siblings, the slaps, lots of slapping...) and doubles down on them to ridiculous levels, adding lots of nonsense in between.
What truly makes it endearing is the amount of running gags based on Portuguese pop culture - this is not a show you can watch just with English subtitles withouth being familiar with Portuguese culture, otherwise you will miss most of the references. The humour density is often pretty high even though each episode can be hit or miss.
While some jokes do get a bit repetitive, and some characters become pretty adimensional overtime, Season 2 does breathe new life on most subplots, adding new angles and surprising twists to some initially bland characters.
The irony of it all is that funny enough, it actually becomes interesting to watch the story unfold, and while you may have started watching it for the silly jokes and the soap opera satire, you will probably stay for the endearing characters and the bizzarre plot.
A must watch for Portuguese television.

All my life I've watched incredibly boring and truly uninteresting shows in Portugal, but this? Holy moly where to even begin with the insanity of it's writing. I begged and begged for years for the portuguese productions to just go crazy with ideas, lets something insane go onto the screen and it feels like somehow that prayer was heard, this is by far the most entertaining thing that has ever graced the portuguese television scenario and I am so proud of every single person who contributed to this, thank you all so much.
My favorite line:
"Eu nao sou um monstro como tu... eu... dou arroz ao baco alimentar"
"Im not a monster like you... I donate rice to the food bank"
it just sends me lmao <3333.

Portugal misses this types of shows: shows that couldn't be made anywhere else, because they are solely based on our own popular references. Only a portuguese can identify saul ricardo (and be aware he exists) in the first episode for example. Or knows the portuguese version of the price is right - which is way more than just a tv show. And who knows who joao baiao is and the impact of "big show sic" the tv show he hosted? Exactly.
Than our soap operas have their own specifics. Which means that you need to know a bunch of portuguese pop culture and portuguese soap operas. So yeah, before watching "por do sol" you should maybe live in portugal for like 10 years lol. Or at least having someone portuguese to explain almost all the jokes to you.
The characters and the plot arent really important, they just need to exist. This is a spoof, so the plot is pretty much the plot of a standard soap opera - with the difference that the dialogues are all non sense. I dont think this is an amazing piece of work neither the best comedy portugal ever produced - but it does make a very poignant parody of our soap operas. And we need portuguese shows like water in the desert.

Extremely lazy writing, this seems no more than a basic 80's soap opera with some present day references thrown here and there.
So much exposition it is boring.
Characters have only one dimension.
I am just waiting for the clone or someone to say "I am not your brother, I am you father. I wasn't killed in that plane crash".
This seems to be written with absolutely zero pear discussion, any type of revision or even screening tests. It is what I would write for a school play production.
The same actors in the same roles as always and stereotype after stereotype after stereotype... Worst of all? I paid for this with my taxes!
