Stunning animation, great version of the old Charles Dickens tale, although a bit dark in places, young children should be accompanied when viewing .
Jim Carrey's performance in live action capture-animation is terrific and the score by Alan Silvestri is just beautiful. I enjoyed the special animation action-sequence additions and I disagree strongly with those who found them superficial. They were absolutely a lot fun. The supporting cast is wonderful, too. Especially great for Junior High kids and adults. It's the Christmas Carol for the 21st century!
It was okay.
As if most people over the age of 5 in the western world dont already know about the story of Ebenezer Scrooge, this story at the least gives a fair recap that is sadly, non too impressive. It almost looks like a modern low spec browser game, but being on the Nintendo DS handheld back in 2009, it does a good enough job with narration and the progression of the story overall. Again, nothing SUPer impressive as it was basically a release to coincide with the actual film, whic was great. Stick with the films, there are numerous versions that have come out in the last 100 years, but the Jim Carey version is one of the best in its performance and ability to show the magic of the tale.
The game here...gets a 5/10.
While the animation is pretty, no doubt about that, when the movie was over I felt grossed out and unaffected. We're not given time to be really attached to characters, instead time is spent doing animation sequences that lose all meaning in 2D, grotesque affects with corpses that isn't age-appropriate for the movie and turns what is usually a heart warming story (admittedly with some death-themed moments) into something that feels like a horror.
The humor is so subtle it might not be there at all, and an extended chase scene with the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come is just so . . . pointless. All in all, not near as charming and fun as other versions of the classic story.

A few years back I added another favorite version of A Christmas Carol after deciding to overcome my prejudice and watch a CG animated version. I LOVED it.
The voice acting is impeccable and Jim Carrey does a great job with all the voices he does. The animation is gorgeous and it sticks very closely to the source material most of the time. The only thing stopping me from giving this 10 is a silly sequence during the third visit that seems to be there simply to exploit the 3D experience which I don't really care about.

- GaffesBefore Marley's ghost appears, a series of small bells begin ringing in Scrooge's main room. In those times, large homes would have a staff of servants and in each main room was a pull cord attached to one of the bells in a series. When a particular bell rang, the servants would know to which room in the house they were being summoned. This row of bells would be located in the kitchen or in some other staff room, not in a main room.
