Yeah I really don't understand why the current rating is below 5.
Its a solid low budget sci-fi movie.
Yes, it took like 30 minutes to get going but after that it's a smooth sailing with drama, twists and all of that.
Cast is amazing. Which is no surprise considering all of the previous work of Aldis Hodge and Danielle Deadwyler.
Edwin Hodge also was a nice surprise, cause I only remember him in them Purge movies but he did a solid job here.
Yes, the other review is correct compering Parallel to Coherence sinse they both share a pretty similar premise. Although I gotta say that I found this one a little more tidy. Plus, again, the cast here is superb.
Anyway, give this movie a chance.

And, yes I'm going to tell right away - you can actually understand dialogue. Sound is clear, crisp and easily understood. No noise volume wars in this movie.
Cast is small, plot is simple, some things are a bit generic but it works. It's shot competently.
I'd wager this is a pretty small budget movie. But for what it does, it uses that budget smartly.
I don't like the cumulative score this movie has here. I don't understand it. It is not a bad movie. Yes, it's microbudgeted, small cast, not bombastic and the plot is pretty straightforward. Maybe people got bored during it, who knows.
In any case, I liked it.

I was sceptical when I jumped in after watching the previous one of the same name. You the one with two lovers on the bed one goes out and comes back with new mojo.
Also the fact that it's brown ppl on a limited budget.
Well the film really had me interested & my attention captivated.
The lowdown here was lack of resources , in terms of fx in the bushes houses & small details.
As it all depends on the cast for us to realise there is change, my point being it can't be only the ppl with alternations , atleast have flowers , paint etc.
Don't get me wrong they nailed it with what was available.
The story swayed away from the quantum entanglement , which would have been too much for low budget & that worked well.
Dialogue wise, yeah it was mid , not too cringe but cheesy - not bad for something that really worked towards making a time travel, quantum realms etc kind of genre easy for simpletons and not to simple to make you feel like what's the point.
I enjoyed that our main character gets to view the world from a double standard perspective & eventually end up understanding that no one is in control but what she was told in the fire place is actually true.
The ending is also thought provocative to build a cult classic .

First, let's not kid ourselves, Danielle Deadwyler carries the movie. If the depth of this cloying wordy script was left to the Hodges brothers, it would be a puddle.
The budget is not a problem so much as the acting of 2/3 of the cast but then they wrote themselves a movie so they weren't going to cast capable actors. They probably shouldn't have cast Deadwyler though because she acts circles around them.
Unfortunately that's really not enough to save it. The over the top melodrama was already enough to bury the concept but they had so little confidence in the audience that they have to describe everything, every moral choice, every option and it gets terribly boring.
If you liked this, check out Coherence. It will blow your mind.

Parallel depicts a woman, her husband, and his brother at ther late father's house deep in the woods. There is mention of the father's "crazy conspiracy theories" in their secluded area. The three appear to have some tension or conflict between them, especially the husband and wife. To escape this, thr wife goes for a walk into the woods and sees herself with a rifle, and this person shoots at her. The wife displays more emotional unsteadiness following this encounter.
That acting is well crafted if a bit overly emotive, but they are coping with a recent distressful situation. And the confusion of parallel worlds would be distressing as well. Production is good providing for a well-crafted visual prevention of home and woods.
But, the plot of loss, grief, and misery was too overwhelming for the seriousness of parallel worlds, and the sci-fi aspect complicated the sense of grief and loss without it adding anything to the film.

Initially skeptical after seeing its unimpressive ratings, I reluctantly decided to watch this multiverse/time travel film after browsing through several user reviews. To my surprise, the movie captivated me with its unique, almost claustrophobic atmosphere, confined to a minimalistic setting with just three characters. Despite its apparent simplicity and limited scope, the film impressively explores its concept, pushing the boundaries of its narrative constraints.
It maintains a delicate balance between innovation and budget constraints, and I found myself wondering if its success was a stroke of luck or a testament to clever filmmaking. Unlike many avant-garde films that tend to meander and conclude on an unsatisfying note, this one managed to weave depth and intrigue throughout, compelling me to invest emotionally in all three protagonists-and their various iterations.
Given the complexity and the slow-burn nature of its storytelling, this movie might not resonate with everyone. It demands the right mood and moment-perhaps catching you in the perfect universe on the perfect evening, as it did with me. That night, I felt rewarded for my patience and was glad to see a film that didn't squander its potential. The industry's standard might hover around mediocrity, but this film stands out, deserving of much more than its initial 4.9 rating. Ultimately, I found myself struggling between 6 and 7 stars, but decided for a 7, appreciative of the heart, thoughts and risk invested by its creators, which set it apart from the pack. In a landscape where genuine innovation is rare, this film is a noteworthy exception.

Worth the watch. You have to judge this movie relative to its budget and production capabilities. Considering this, the movie did a fantastic job of maximizing the movie to the best of its ability.
The story was great, although it was a bit shallow at times I wish they would have built it out more and given it a bit of depth and richness. However, they built it out enough to be enjoyable, and I thought that the acting was really good.
All of this being said, I can also see what would warrant some lower reviews. While, some of the criticisms are fair many of them are addressed by the movies budget and the less resources they had to make this film.

First off this is a remake of a Chinese film called Parallel Forest that was a low budget gem, this is not!
So first alarm bell was the hodge brothers writing and staring in the film, big mistake they cant act and their fake accents made it unwatchable. Although they stole the whole concept from a Chinese film callled Parallel Forest which is on Youtube to watch for free and is twice the film this will ever be.
Then you have the dialouge its really bad and at some points stupid, enough to make you want to switch off. The whole film feels very cheap and amateur especially the terrible rushed drone shots at the beginning.
Somebody elsementioned the main actress literally carrying the film.....she doesnt, nothing could make this film interesting. Im not sure why they rated her acting so highly Danielle Deadwyler is competent at best, some of her facial expressions were awful like her reaction to being shot at. The constant close=ups of faces and eyes was pointless and added nothing felt like an amateur student filmaker.
I reccomend you go watch the Chinese version of this film which is free on Youtube and basically give this a miss, it really is just a badly made rip-off of an actual low budget gem something this couldnt replicate!

Nothing new, with less cast than Coherence.
This movie was good, well shot, and all around good for the genre. I think I enjoyed it because despite it clearly being a multiple dimension film, if you removed that and only thought about it as a weekend getaway with a husband a wife and a friend trying to move past a traumatic event, and that everyone is using psychology to try and break through to each other, it also works.
The ending though was just a bit too cookie cutter for a happy ending that didn't need that very last scene. It would've been just as good with everyone moving on/accepting what had happened.
One let down was that a piece of string was somehow going to help them travel through dimensions in a repeatable fashion. Sure if she had only followed the string to follow him, I'd buy it. But the moment he came back to her and wrapping the string up, they had no way of guaranteeing which reality they'd emerge in.

I review a lot of films, but some I skip as they are just not interesting enough, but I thought I'd give this bad boy a shot. This is a really bad, incomprehensible horror film. I guess it's a horror film though I suppose time traveling would be more a more accurate description, but perhaps being in the wrong place at the same time is more accurate, though I am not sure that sentence makes any sense, but then neither does the movie. I don't know. It's a mess and nothing is more spectacularly bad the the female lead's instant acceptance to the strangeness she facing. A hodgepodge of people wandering in and out of the woods in different dimensions or universes or something. The cast is good, but the writing is something that no performer could overcome. There are only three actors in this, Danielle Deadwyler, Aldis Hodge & Edwin Hodge and they try hard, but their efforts are in vain. Good cinematography and for what it's worth, I've seen worse.

"Parallel" makes creative use of its low budget to two a compelling story. Two locations and three actors feel mamy worlds bigger without blockbuster special effects. It's a slow start but but it picks up into an interesting storyline, and powerful performances by the talented cast. The concept of parallel universes is explored in a unique and thought-provoking way, leaving audiences on the edge of their seats as they try to unravel the mysteries presented on screen.
The direction and cinematography of "Parallel" are top-notch, telling a lot with a little
What truly sets "Parallel" apart is its strong character development and emotional depth. The protagonists are multi-dimensional and relatable, making their journey through the parallel universes all the more.

I love the Hodge brothers and knew that I would support this film. I was not at all disappointed. I also wasn't WOW'd either. The female lead was very good in the role. She conveyed trauma and grief perfectly with her expressive eyes that were truly windows to her soul.
There is a plot hole that I wish was explored further. It has to do with the brother's father. It was hinted but I think could've went more into depth. It could have been very interesting to explore.
I recently saw The Invitation and this was a lot like it. Both stories explored a similar subject that has been extremely popular in sci-fi lately.
I think it was decent and would recommend it to sci-fi fans.

I am delighted that this is the first Chinese science fiction film to be adapted by the United States. After reading it, my first thought is that the cost of the American version is lower than the original version. Except for the art which is slightly more advanced than the original version, the rest of it doesn't cost much money. Moreover, the other male actor is also the male lead brother, and the two main scenes of the villa and forest are too rudimentary. And the story is really lazy, almost unchanged. I have watched the original version for too long and have almost forgotten it. If I were to talk about the advantages, the only advantage is that the female lead's skills are no less than the original version. But the overall advantages are few, and any remakes without adaptation or novelty are not up to par with me.

I personally liked it. I'm a huge sci-fi fan though. This is a brain twister movie, especially at the beginning. So it is tailormade for those who like brain twisters. The concept is about Multiverse which is an extremely difficult subject to touch. But I think it was a good try. It deserves to be watched. Keeps you on the edge for your seat that's for sure. There could've been more done with this idea, it could've been something great but it fells short of that. The actors were good. They did their best with what they had been given. The storyline and the time of the movie needed to be longer I feel.

Aldis and his brother Edwin wrote a good thrilling/horror, science fiction movie. I don't get the bad rating IMDB has. Possibly not enough watched it and reviewed it.
The movie takes place with three individuals staying in a lake house. Aldis Hodge plays the husband (Alex), Danielle Deadwyler plays his wife (Vanessa) and Edwin Hodge plays the brother of Alex (Martel). Vanessa and Alex have recently experienced the death of their son and are staying in martel's lake house for vacation. Vanessa decides to take a stroll through the woods when she encounters a multiverse experience, where she sees herself. However, this version of herself tries to kill her. She then goes back to the house as she tries to make sense of it, as well as dealing with her husband trying to move on from their dead son and the possibility of selling their house to have a fresh start. You also didn't find out. Later on, you find out that the father of Alex and Martel was someone who delved in physics and multiverse possibilities but disappeared.
This movie really deserves a watch because there are small factors in it that you really cannot talk about without spoiling it. The suspense and thrills in this project did not disappoint. Danielle did an excellent job playing a confused, angry and grieving mother trying to survive this ordeal. The subtleties and the elements involved made for a great movie that didn't spoon feed you all the answers and did not have to spend a lot of money to do it. There was no CGI or any other kind of special effects needed to tell this story, which was really refreshing. The conversations and relationships that all three of them had were absolutely believable and relatable. From one conversation, you hear that there were experiments happening in a facility in the woods where people went missing and caused the shutdown of said facility. This leads to Danielle going back into the woods to try to find something that can help her make sense of what she experienced. Upon doing this is when the movie really picks up as she has lost her way and is now trying to find her way back home. This is where the movie has its most thrilling moments, because you never know who she's going to encounter and if she is ever going to find her way back. You also understood Danielle's ulterior motive from a grieving mother standpoint, as she was also trying to find a universe where her son was actually still alive. I like the fact that you were never bored and it kept an even pace throughout the entire film.
I wish I had seen this movie sooner. Definitely worth a watch and owning on 4K.

No pun intended - this is a remake of Japanese movie. And if I can tell you one thing: I watched both versions and I would advice that it is more than enough to only watch one version - if you don't mind subtitles watch the original (or if you know the language of course) ... otherwise this is a decent enough effort and remake ... it does work to say the least.
Actors do a good job and some scenes are even one to one translated and shot. The bigger reveals are the same too - there may be different ways (paths?) they take to come to the same conclusion and goal ... but other than that ... well again, I "wasted" my time, so you don't have to. You have to have a knack and a thing for Science Fiction stuff of course ...

Parallel is a solid film that explores the idea of parallel universes with a surprisingly grounded approach. While it does move at a slower pace and doesn't offer any major plot twists, the story is laid out clearly and remains coherent throughout. That alone sets it apart from many other films in the same genre, which often lose focus trying to juggle too many realities. The acting is decent, not exceptional, but good enough to keep you engaged. What stood out most was the ending, which provided a sense of relief and resolution. Overall, Parallel is a thoughtful and well-executed take on a complex concept.

I really enjoyed this movie. Respect to any team that can pull off a low budget production with only 3 cast and keep me engaged start to finish. An interesting plot, solid acting and quality cinematography. No special effects here, but the sci-fi/ mystery theme had enough interesting twists to satisfy this sci-fi fan.
Starring Danielle Deadwyler (also executive producer) and Aldis and Edwin Hodge (also writers).
Based on the 2019 Chinese movie 'Parallel Forest'. Could be worth checking this one out too.
I don't usually write reviews. When I saw the low rating I felt liking giving my support. There are so many rubbish movies that deserve low ratings. This movie is actually decent. Give it a try. I'm glad I did.

Very creative and also disturbing film about a young woman who tries to get away from her depression by going to an awesome forest cabin near a unique scientific facility that has been recently shut down due to "weird experiments" known to have gone on there. What she doesn't know and will soon find out is that somehow the space time continuum has been fractured at a single spot in the forest located at a hollowed out tree trunk. What happens next is quite a maddening ride into other possible realities that borders on insanity as she attempts to find a universe that does not include the loss of her son which brought her out here in the first place. Exceptional cast, great acting, very believable story and stress levels, lots of suspense and mystery, with a very surprising finale. Nothing questionable, no nudity, no foul language, some mild violence, no gore, ok for young audiences if they can follow the confusion of these alter universes. Would see this again for sure. Grab some popcorn and enjoy the ride. You won't be disappointed.
