Avis à la une
Soodhu Kavvum 2 is the textbook example of a sequel that nobody asked for-and it shows. While it makes a commendable effort to connect with the original (props for that slickly executed throwback scene featuring Shiva in the OG footage), the film stumbles hard on almost every other front. The humor? Mostly flat, with barely a couple of chuckle-worthy moments sprinkled across a sea of cringe. Shiva's performance is more grating than charming, and the screenplay meanders without purpose, leaving you wondering, "Why does this even exist?" Ultimately, this unnecessary sequel does little more than tarnish the legacy of a cult classic. Hard pass. 3/10.
Soodhu Kavvum 2 (2024) :
Brief Review -
Why They Shouldn't Make Sequels. Nalan made Soodhu Kavvum (2013), and that film has become a cult classic among Tamil audiences. Nobody specifically asked for a sequel, but someone thought of it, and that's how Soodhu Kavvum 2 was formed after 12 years. SJ Arjun directs a sequel only to show us why they shouldn't make sequels to some of those great movies. Soodhu Kavvum 2 is a pointless script that should have been scrapped on paper and ended up in the garbage can rather than on celluloid. One can't really figure out what's going on and for what purpose. The original, starring Vijay Sethupathi, was such a fantastic entertainer, and here the sequel literally has "ZERO" laughs and no entertainment. The film continues the same story but with a different protagonist. Guru wants to kidnap the political giant Arumai Pragasam for the sake of some silly revenge, and that's how the narrative unfolds. Before that, Guru and his gang were probably the most peaceful, disciplined, and heartfelt guys working as kidnappers. Guru starts hallucinating Ammu, and then there is a secret android device at the center of the plot. Arumai wants that device to conduct money transactions and become the CM of the state, but will it be possible as opponents try to destroy the device? The Soodhu Kavvum 2 script is blind and blunt. There is no head or tail to it; there is no quintessential entertainment, no comedy, no action as such, and there is no drama either. Then why the hell was this written, I wonder? The sarcastic characters and their childish behavior become irritating sooner than expected, leaving your head aching from boredom. The performances are also bad. Mirchi Shiva, Karunakaran, MS Bhaskar, Vagai Chandrasekhar, Harisha, and Radha Ravi have all delivered terrible performances here. The music, background score, lyrics, cinematography, production design, editing, and art design are all weak. I can't believe that someone had to make a sequel to such a good film and then ended up creating something like this. It's a lesson to all of us on how "NOT TO MAKE A SEQUEL." This was so "UNWANTED" and "UNBEARABLE."
