Avis à la une
Even though I hate the part where one of the character made a mess of the whole thing, I still can tolerate it. After all this is a drama. Drama will always be dramatic and will never go the way we wanted it to be. The missing star was for the ending :)
Believe it or not, I made this account only to review this series because this is such an underrated series that deserves an award.
The only down side is the temple of the story line in the first 3 episodes are slow. Pppl who is no into spy drama might give up at the point, sort of similar with the early episode of game of throne. However. Once you into it, whole 24 episodes might still be not enough to you. Looking forward the second season if there is.
If you are looking for a drama that focuses on the well-known characters from the novel, this is not it. The most famous character that has the longest screentime is Zhuge Liang, but even he is in only around 4 episodes. Instead, this drama gives you an in-depth view of the bravery and sacrifices the "little people" make in service to their country, and perhaps more importantly, in service to their friends and loved ones.
The plot and characters are extremely well written, and that is the strongest point of this drama. So many twists and turns, but they all make sense within the context of the setting and story. The characters feel like real humans with strengths and weaknesses. I found characters that I liked on both the Wei and Shu sides, and even by the end, I have a hard time judging the characters as "good" or "bad", as most of the main ones are quite complex. They are all just people fighting for their side of the war, and trying to meet their own goals. The actors all do a wonderful job, and there are some scenes toward the end that made me tear up because of how well written the plot and relationships are.
At 24 episodes, this is one of the best paced C-dramas that I've seen. There are no fillers, and the costuming, the music, as well as the cinematography are wonderful throughout. Don't worry if there are too many characters in the beginning, as the director even included a helpful but brief "summary" segment at the end of the first few episodes to help viewers understand what's going on and get into the story faster. Once you make it past episode 4, you'll be fully immersed in the story and the characters.
One other thing that I enjoyed a lot about this drama is that there is no distractingly bad CGI. I've seen too many C-dramas that made me cringe or took me out of a "cool" moment because the special effects looked like they came out of a PS2 era game.
Overall, I highly recommend checking this out, and I hope more people watch it as it is such a high-quality drama. It's in my "Best C-Dramas" list along with my other favourites like Nirvana In Fire and the Story of Minglan.
Based on the Three Kingdoms era of ancient China, there is a lot of information coming at viewers at the beginning but hang in there. This is a show that is filled with schemes and planning so there's much dialogue in dim rooms, but it's the details that count to make this incredible. No scene is to be skipped friends. None. I've watched it at least four times already and I get something new everytime.
It's a solid 8/10 stars from me!
