Disney, take note!

It's like... Actually good? Like... Unironically? I did not expect that.

I totally thought this would be some trash trying to milk the KPop culture/fandom, but... I mean, it is that, no mistake about that, but it's not just a cash-grab. The story, if you think about it, is kind of simplistic and predictable, but I do not think it was aiming for something complex. It's a fairy tale. You know, like Snow White? What makes it stand out is the delivery.

The music is good. I am not a fan of KPop, aside maybe a couple of songs, and I can remember only one of them (I'm a Pop), but the songs sounded good to my ears with just a few moments sounding a bit off. Not as in "off-tune", but as in "do not fit" either overall song structure or what's happening on screen. Those are nitpicks, though. Totally not like Snow White.

Animation is great, the style overall. I really like that it's not taking itself or the pop culture too seriously, and expresses it through the goofy animations. But they are not just for giggles: they paint human (and humane) characters. Female characters, Disney, take note! The girls can kick some ass, they like to goof about, when they can, but at the same time, they do have their troubles (especially Rumi), and they overcome them together and go pursue their passions in order to give to the world.

Will this movie change the world as original Snow White did? Probably not. We live in a different world now, after all. But what it does is deliver a light-hearted and full-hearted story, which also delivers proper satisfaction when it ends, and may even inspire some kids. Because the movie shows good traits (and perseverance) and not just talks about them. I would even give it 9/10, docking 1 point only because I would have preferred a more fleshed-out story, if possible.

Came for the visuals, stunned by the vocals

I'm more of an animation fan than a kpoper, so KPop Demon Hunters was offering a fresh idea, but I was not prepared.

The colors are gorgeous. The constant pallette choice of cold colors are pleasing in the eyes and well-coordinated, it's breathtaking. Fluid movements during fights, Sony nailed it over and over.

Albeit story-wise is formulaic, the casts are wonderful and easily loveable. Jinu has the most generic looking facial feature for a character but his personality definitely sells his character, I love him. The trio is an icon, they are all different in their own ways and it's what made their interactions very enjoyable!

Last but not least, the tracks. Banger. It gave me chills, especially the last to close up the story. I'm not familiar with KPop songs, so this is all very new to me, but the tracks in this movie definitely hook me up, and I now see the appeal of KPop songs. Brb while I binge the tracks.

Action, romance, music, friendship, and lots of colors!

This was a fun ride. There's a lot of moments where I was laughing because of the references they put in it. The animation style reminds me a little of a fluid stop motion? It looks good especially paired with the action and all that bright coloring it was very nice and not too flashy in the eyes.

The highlight for me would be the music. All the music in this got my head banging too definitely saving it on my playlist. The lyrics have depth and it works well woven into the plot especially the bigger numbers. The voice actors and singer they hired for this fit nicely the only issue I had was sometimes it's too soft whenever they talk but too loud whenever they sing... there are moments also where in the animation expression didn't quite merge well with the voice acting. I also rewatched this in Filipino dub and was surprised to hear them also dub the music!! Listening to the songs in my native language felt good.

Overall it's a good wholesome movie that teaches you to accept yourself even if you're not perfect, get broken or make mistakes. A big plus as well for enemies to lovers trope. I'm always a sucker for it. It made me laugh but also made me cry. I wish so much for a sequel.

K-Pop Demon Hunters is the movie I didn't know I was waiting for

I walked into this expecting flashy visuals and a few catchy songs. I walked out emotionally wrecked, fully converted, and desperately trying to find the soundtrack.

This film is everything. The acting is next-level; every performance feels lived-in, even with all the genre craziness. These aren't just idols fighting demons, they're friends, sisters, legends in the making. I cared about every single one of them, which made every twist hit that much harder. The writing balances emotional depth with pop-culture fun. There are genuine character arcs, sharp humor, and moments of real heartbreak. It doesn't rely on tropes, it plays with them, elevates them. And the music. My god, the MUSIC. Not just earworms, these tracks are woven into the story. A power ballad becomes a battle cry. A training montage becomes a music video. A finale turns into a full-blown pop opera. It's genius.

Stylish, heartfelt, funny, fierce, and totally original. This isn't just a movie, it's a whole vibe. I'll be thinking about it (and rewatching it) for a long time.

Your insecurities are not your scars

The movie offers a great explanation and reassurance that your insecurities and your mistakes do not make you who you are. It has some of the best twists I've seen in a long time. It allows a great look into Korean pop culture and the songs not only help with the plot but also aren't a typical Disney song. The animation is stunning and beautiful. My only complaint is the lip sinc for some of the songs don't quite match up but to have a complete original movie that can be enjoyed by all audiences and never lags in plot, storytelling, or animation is what makes this movie so great. Also this movie took 9 years to make. People have put their blood, sweat, and tears into it. I just wish it was more available on other platforms.

Surprisingly Good!

"KPop Demon Hunters" is humorously subversive and a funny but brutal commentary on not only its own industry but teenage culture and the fan-base as well.

Kids will enjoy the beautiful animation, well-drawn characters, and songs. Older teens and parents (if they're not too tired) will hopefully see and enjoy the embedded satire.

That good: Well-voiced acting. Good dialogues. Catchy tunes.

The bad: The plot is predictable and a bit cliche. But that is not to say it's not good. It isn't bad.

There's a moment early on in the movie when the girls first meet the boys, and it's hilarious.

A rare win for Netflix.

I need a sequel!!!

I've been watching the trailer on repeat since it first dropped, and after finally seeing the full movie, I can honestly say it exceeded all my expectations. What stood out to me the most was the way it explored the theme of self-acceptance. The characters aren't perfect-they make mistakes, they have fears, and they face struggles-but that's what makes them so real and relatable. The film reminds us that it's okay to be flawed, and that we don't need to hide our insecurities from the people who care about us. Vulnerability isn't weakness-it's a kind of strength. And sometimes, showing our true selves, even the parts we think are "too much," is exactly what helps us grow and connect more deeply with others.

The music was another huge highlight for me. Every song was super catchy and I've already added several tracks to my Spotify playlist. I also loved the performance scenes-they were dynamic, visually stunning, and full of personality.

Visually, the film is breathtaking. The character designs, costumes, and animation are all so detailed and vibrant. You can clearly see the love and effort that went into every frame. Each character has a distinct style that reflects their personality, and the fusion of K-pop aesthetics with demon-hunting action creates a world that feels both exciting and immersive.

And I can't forget to mention the "enemies to lovers" subplot-it had me hooked from the start! That kind of dynamic is one of my favorites, and this one was done so well. The chemistry, the tension, the emotional payoff... it gave me all the feels. I laughed, I teared up, and I was totally invested in their journey. By the end, I was left wanting more-and honestly, I really hope there's a sequel on the way.

One Epic Concert

Who knew that a movie dedicated to K-Pop can turn out really something special? K-Pop Demon Hunters is a highly unique movie that takes the music genre and turn it into what's truly epic. From every minute of my viewing, I was stunned on how Sony Animation would make something that's one of their best since Spider-Verse. The story is highly intense, the animation is spectacular, the characters are all beloved, the songs bring the best moments, and the action are at their greatest. If you love K-Pop or just action movies in general, this is absolutely a must watch. And I'm sure that even non fans of K-Pop will definitely get hooked into this movie with all the epic moments and all the intensity this will have to offer. I am aware that K-Pop has been going popular from the past years. Based on my experience with this movie, I think I can start to understand why. This review is something the movie can consider a music award from me.

Why Are Kids Obsessed With KPop Demon Hunters? (And Should You Care?)

When your 13-year-old starts humming the soundtrack before the credits roll and your 11-year-old immediately asks "Can we watch it again?", you know an animated film has struck gold... even if that gold comes with some familiar copper underneath.

Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans' KPop Demon Hunters is genuinely delightful visual candy that marries supernatural action with infectious pop sensibilities.

The genre-bending animated film borrows from pop music and action cinema, creating something unexpectedly charming. Sony Pictures Animation continues their innovation streak with gorgeous visuals that make every demon-slaying sequence pop like a music video, whilst the soundtrack absolutely slaps... proper earworm material.

The film's greatest strength lies in its sincere embrace of K-pop culture without descending into parody. It's endearing, beautifully animated crowdpleaser, with a dorkily sincere love for the pop culture phenomena it embeds itself in. However, beneath the stunning animation lies a disappointingly predictable story that feels like we've seen this particular "misfit teens save the world" template countless times before.

The fighting is not horrible but is bad, and the action sequences, whilst visually spectacular, lack genuine tension or stakes. It's humorously subversive and a funny but brutal commentary on its own industry, which adds clever meta-commentary that adults will appreciate.

Who'll Love This: K-pop fans, animation enthusiasts, families wanting something fresh, and anyone who enjoyed Spider-Verse's visual innovation.

My kids were absolutely transfixed: the 13-year-old appreciated the meta-commentary whilst the younger one was purely there for the demon-slaying spectacle. Teen girls will worship at its altar.

Rating: 7/10 (Gorgeous spectacle that prioritises style over substance, but what magnificent style it is) Probably 8/10 for my kids.

IMMACULATE AND REFRESHING

My favourite animated movie in a long time. Very refreshing and original idea. It was much deeper and meaningful than I thought it would be - I originally just anticipated to watch a surface level kids show but this is not that. I love the characters and the plot. The songs were so good too!! Let's not forget the amazing lyrics. The humour too! The only flaw is that there's no part 2 😭

If you're looking for a light hearted but meaningful movie with bangers to jam to, then this is the movie. All the songs are in my Spotify now haha.

I also would love to chat more about the underlying and subtle meanings about the kpop industry in general. I think this show is like a metaphor for what's currently going on there. Really great.

A great concept with lackluster execution

Kpop Demon Hunter have a really interesting, simple and catchy concept to go with it. Coupled with the dynamic animation and good songs it came with, its not a surprise that it garner a lot of attention. However the movie drop the balls pretty quickly.

The pacing is all over the place, never truly settling down. It hinders audience ability to concept and bond with the character.

At no point does the threat in the story makes me on the edge of my seat and thinking, "this is it". Everything solved and, quite literally, dissolved in a matter of minutes. The character lack genuine depth, and seems like they are just string along by the plot. A lot of the things they did make no sense given what we know of them.

Overall, i think this movie is good if you want to listen to cool catchy songs and look at pretty animations, but the story lack depth and cohesion that by the time the end credit rolls, im left with the same feeling as when i start the movie, having as much understanding of the character and story as if im just watching clips of them on the internet.

cured my depression

Before watching K-Pop: Demon Hunters, I never thought I would find myself appreciating anything related to K-pop. However, this film completely changed my perspective and made me second guess my views on K-Pop. K-Pop Demon Hunters surprised me with its incredible depth, emotional storytelling, and striking visuals, proving that sometimes, our assumptions can be completely wrong.

At its core, K-Pop: Demon Hunters is more than just an action-packed animation featuring glamorous idols. The film cleverly mixes fantasy, music, and emotional depth in a way that feels truly refreshing. The story follows a K-pop girl group who, by day, perform as global superstars, but by night, fight demons threatening humanity. This unique blend of worlds created an engaging plot that immediately drew me in, even as someone who doesn't enjoy K-pop music.

What stood out to me most was the emotional complexity of the characters. Each member of the group carried personal struggles, secrets, and moments of vulnerability that made them feel real and relatable. Their friendships, loyalty, and willingness to sacrifice for one another added so much emotional weight to the story. The film portrayed them not just as pop stars or fighters, but as young women dealing with fear, responsibility, and self-doubt - themes anyone can connect to, regardless of their music taste.

Another powerful element was the film's stunning animation. The visuals were beautifully detailed, from the high-energy concert scenes full of colorful lights and electric choreography to the dark, eerie demon battles that kept me on the edge of my seat. The contrasts between the glamorous stage life and the gritty demon-hunting missions were masterfully shown, emphasizing the duality of the characters' lives and adding depth to the film's overall atmosphere.

Music, of course, played a big role in the film. Surprisingly, I found myself completely captivated by the songs, despite my initial dislike of K-pop. The music in the film was not just for entertainment; it helped tell the story and express the characters' emotions. It felt empowering and inspiring rather than superficial. By the end of the movie, I caught myself humming along and appreciating the artistry behind it all.

The emotional impact of the film was what truly stayed with me. The moments of loss, fear, and hope were so well portrayed that I genuinely felt for the characters. Their growth, both individually and as a group, was moving and inspiring. It made me realize how much dedication and effort goes into not only performing but also supporting each other as a team, whether on stage or in battle.

* K-Pop: Demon Hunters* also challenged me to reflect on my own biases. Before watching it, I never gave K-pop a fair chance because I judged it based on surface-level impressions. This film opened my eyes to the storytelling potential and emotional power that can exist in any genre when it is treated with care and creativity. It reminded me that good stories and art can be found anywhere if we are open enough to experience them.

Overall, K-Pop: Demon Hunters was an unexpected and thrilling journey. It made me appreciate the hard work and heart that goes into K-pop, and even though I might not become a hardcore K-pop fan, I now respect it in a way I never did before. The film's beautiful animation, strong emotional core, and surprising depth combined to create an unforgettable experience.

I left the movie not just entertained but inspired, with a newfound willingness to explore things outside my comfort zone. For anyone skeptical about K-pop or hesitant to try something new, this film is the perfect reminder that sometimes, stepping into unfamiliar territory can lead to the most rewarding and eye-opening experiences.

Would Recommend

I've been recommended this movie by multiple people, so I thought I should check it out. With a killer soundtrack and an exciting storyline, I think this movie is a good one for the whole family to enjoy! I loved the animation style and the humorous lines added in to bring up the mood. I appreciate that they brought in industry professionals to sing some of the songs in order to connect the movie to real life audiences.

I would have preferred more interesting dialogue at parts, but not disappointed with how it turned out. Although it definitely targets kids and k-pop fans, I think anyone can have a great time watching it.

I must say I haven't seen an animated movie this long since spiderman across the spider verse. Please watch this movie, from the character development, to the message it's truly great. My only hope is there is a sequel as I'd love to see more of the cast and characters in this movie. Be prepared to laugh, smile, cry, all of the above. Not a single song in the movie is worth missing, they all now sit in my playlist because of how good all the songs are...like literally amazing.

The unexpected hit of the year

This film is something special, and is an unexpected hit of a film, specifically to me. Before all the hype began, all I had to go off of was the title and the constant pushes from Netflix to view their new original film, and I was very hesitant. Movies of this type, that being musical, monster slaying, emotional movies, have a tendency of being not very good, and not worth the time. That was before I learned Sony was behind this. This film brings in a fun to watch animation style, similar of that of 'the Mitchell's vs. The machines' combined with a plot and world that was decently built, and with strong leads and great characters that allows for this film to be a great watch for everyone. All movie viewers, regardless of taste, could probably find something from this movie they could like if they tried, and not all movies can do that. Overall, a great watch, and I have a new song album to save to my library.

Peak asf

Friend recommended me this movie as a joke and i did not take it seriously at all. I saw that it had a decent rating on this site and decided to watch it as a joke with him and another friend. This was one of the best decisions i could've made. This movie was like uncovering a treasure that had been forgotten and overlooked. It was a god level movie with top tier EVERYTHING. Thought this was going to be horrible but it changed my life forever. I immediately stumbled across 100 millions dollars in my yard and my amputated leg grew back. WATCH THIS MOVIE ASAP IT IS SO GOOD 10/10. Bobby the goat.

Surprisingly good! Songs are 10/10!

I never like Kpop, to be honest. I only hear some hit songs while shopping and I don't even know how many people are there in BTS or Black pink...

But! This film totally wins my heart!

I mean, come on! Demon Hunters + Pop stars! Who doesn't love this?

The story is super simple, simple and could be a bit cliché. But the music production is totally on top level.

Even for a person like who is so unfamiliar with Kpop could tell the tune.

Overall, the film is quite short, no fuss, really suitable for this type of action animations.

It doesn't spend looong time to explain all the details but that's the whole point! People are shouting out for sequels online now, unlike the recent Disney style which makes audiences beg for No More Useless Sequels!

I'd like to thank the production team brought back something we've been missing for a long time: MAKE YOUR POINT.

Sometimes that's what all a good film needs.

I'm not looking forward to any sequels because this one is classic!

Visually stunning, Underwhelming Narrative

To be honest I was very disappointed with this movie but it might be my own fault I had my hopes super high for this movie when I saw the trailer first come out. And I will say this movie is visually STUNNING like I love this movies art I can sit and stare at this movies for hours and hours. But when it comes to the other aspects it becomes underwhelming. The story is trying to do so much and every character has so much to them and there's a whole lot of lore and lessons but the movie is only an hour and 30 minutes it's no where near enough time to have all this and let it breath its way to packed in and it's just too much. Another issue being that the story feels super kiddie which yes it's a kid movie but like it has that talk down feeling that a lot of kids movies have. Like this movie said the word "fan" so many times it was insane like I get it they're idols they have fans it's important. Then also there's the acting. Some actors were amazing like Zoey's Actress specifically did absolutely amazing i specifically remember thinking she did great and her lines felt natural. But there were other characters who's lines felt super unnatural. But don't get me wrong visually everything is amazing I just wish there was more time to expand on what's there and give this movie room to breathe and if not that you need cut down on this lore. Like this feels like it was meant to be a 2 season show. Still it's a nice movie and I don't regret watching it.

Wasted potential

It sucks. Nuff said. KPop Demon Hunters is a mess of wasted potential. The concept-K-pop idols battling demons-sounds amazing on paper, but the show crashes hard in execution. The plot is shallow, filled with clichés and awkward pacing. Characters feel like cardboard cutouts of K-pop tropes with zero depth. Even the demon fights, which should be highlights, are repetitive and poorly choreographed. The music, while catchy at times, can't save the cringe-worthy dialogue and forced drama. It tries to blend idol culture with supernatural action, but ends up failing at both. Stylish, but soulless. Definitely not worth the hype.
