The font used for the credits, Folio Bold Extended, in this series is the same used for The NBC Mystery Movie (1971), and other Universal TV productions of the 1960s and '70s, and especially Columbo (1971), which is fitting seeing as the main character Charlie Cale (Natasha Lyonne) uses many of the "just one more thing" tricks to questioning suspects, similar to Columbo.
Charlie drives a fastback 1967 Plymouth Barracuda.
Rian Johnson's first TV series that he created. Johnson previously directed episodes of Breaking Bad (2008) and Terriers (2010) and the film: Star Wars : Épisode VIII - Les Derniers Jedi (2017).
Due to the series' procedural aspects, the episodes feature several guest stars. Series creator Rian Johnson was inspired by the number of actors who guest starred on Columbo, wanting to deem each guest star as the star of the episode, which allowed them to attract many actors.
In addition to Columbo, series creator Rian Johnson also used Magnum, P.I., The Rockford Files, Quantum Leap, Highway to Heaven and The Incredible Hulk as influences for the tone of the series.
