With fast forward in use - it is not so painful

I dunno why some quite good actors (maybe not the absolute first league but decent ones) take part in this endeavour. This movie is not terribly bad, but it is not good also, some very average, generic action/thriller with some bad looking CGI/FX (shooting gun without recoil looks terribly lame for example).

Long story short, if you are abandoned on some desert island and you have absolutely nothing to do - you can try it, otherwise please do anything else.

A disfigured clone of every other single-location suspense movie

A generic, one-location thriller, cheap to make but difficult to excel, this has so many clichés mashed together it hurts to watch.

Twenty minutes are used to build up the big-bad in absentia. Phase two is lock-in with a psychopath, an artificially generated time constraint with no way out. This comes complete with power struggles, traitors in our midst and running around shirtless carrying a gun à la Ripley.

Michelle Monaghan is a decent actress, but Sigourney Weaver she is not, we get an abundance of doubting, shouting and pouting, running through nondescript corridors as the body count rises.

This all plays out to a heavily telegraphed ending, so obvious a blind ten-year old could see it coming. Most disturbingly, the makers naïvely included a massive hook for a sequel that nobody wants or needs.

Lame

I got about half way through then turned it off. Unfortunately, it looks like Jason Clarke is following Bruce Willis and Liam Neeson's career path and starring in terrible low budget action films. This is definitely not a movie I'd recommend. 4 stars.

Steaming pile alert.

In a word: Boring In two words: Unwatchable dreck.

On the plus side, this is a really good mystery.

It's a mystery how such bad movies get made.

Another mystery is that the purveyors of these steaming pile movies have not realized yet that they must factor into their budget a tidy sum to pay people to come see their crappy movie.

I am not angry that i watched it, i am just dissapointed.

Lame story and bad acting on top. Not even the special effects held up, even though they got a helicopter for the trailer...

Jeddah is Istanbul (!)

In first scene woman talking about Istanbul (Turkey) but it showing scenes from Jeddah (Saudi Arabia). I watched this movie cause of cast, director was looking fine but i was wrong. They shot in one place, story is cliche, there is famous actors/actress but movie is bad.

Black site?

No....

It should be called Back Hole.

A Black Hole for ideas, entertainment, originality.... Well, it is really bad, sort of a stupid, very generic and forgetable "action" film with the required dose of social commentary. Thirty second after the "movie" ended I could not remember what it was about. The only interesting thing in it were the desert shots. But, we can Google these things right?

And this thing of tough girls (with noodle arms) who look like that typical soccer mom who organizes PTA cookie sales beating everyone and shooting like the best marksman in the universe is getting old.

All in all, there is nothing here.

confusion in the mind of scriptwriter?

It begins with a scene of explosion in Istanbul (in Turkey). But they show the city on the map like it is in Saudi Arabia. Is this done on purpose or do they not know the geography?????

So?

Form

When the character is right, the frames are right, a movie is never a bad movie, and if the stage design is right, that movie is a work of art.

It's the power of film that use All the good elements of computer games and low level animations features in the cinematic way . The Story have some bugs but generally good.

People are taking "labels" much too seriously...

Ok, I've read lots of the reviews here (both positive and negative), and here are my thoughts with about a half-hour left to go in my initial viewing of this film (which is another in the free offerings from Kanopy, the movie app available on your smart TV that is sponsored by your local Public Library at no cost to you if you have a library card): first, I understand the complaint several folks had about the opening credits, which show satellite images of an explosion purportedly in Turkey, yet the eye-in-the-sky shot clearly shows the explosion taking place somewhere else in the Middle East...causing some reviewers to lament the ignorance of the presumably American filmmakers for not knowing where Turkey is. I believe the truth on this point is either, A) yes, the filmmakers are inconsiderate morons, or (and more likely), B) what we're witnessing here is one of the occasionally unfortunate byproducts of modern filmmaking, where an SFX team was hired to provide satellite images of an explosion in the Middle East, without the producers of the film having yet decided exactly "where" that explosion was to have taken place - a not altogether uncommon situation in the production of films, regardless of their country of origin.

Next, some reviewers have claimed the film's main villain isn't very scary...well, he seems pretty darn scary to me, and I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree on this point.

Now, as to those who feel this movie is yet another nail in the coffin of men being the action heroes of movies, with women taking over the role they once held; okay, yes, the heroine in this film does play an important role (remember, I've yet to see the ending), but the background they've given her as a whip-smart CIA analyst is the primary skill set she has displayed so far, and if the movie ends with her beating the crap out of the main bad guy - whom I've already proclaimed to BE a really BAD guy, then maybe I'll swing the other way on this point. But those of you who used to read books (like me) before we let movies become pretty much our sole entertainment medium, may recall the classic by John Steinbeck called "The Grapes of Wrath", and will remember how control of the Joad family was eventually ceded to Ma Joad, as Pa had been so beat down by Life that she had no choice but to take over. So, I'm just saying this isn't a 2022 phenomenon, and besides that, lighten up a little, and admit that sometimes women will be smarter and even tougher (emotionally and yes, even physically) than men, and that we should consider ourselves, no matter our gender, as members of the same team, guys!

Okay, time to finish the movie, I just wanted to address those few points before I pass out (it's my day off tomorrow, and the gin has been flowing rather freely this evening!)

******

Alright, the end credits are rolling, and while our heroine did manage to "best" the Bad Guy, she did it with a gun, at close range, so I don't see anything so very unbelievable about that. And yes, the end of the film clearly sets us up for a sequel which promises to have her ferreting out the CIA rat who ordered the air strike responsible for the deaths of her husband and daughter, which I'd be happy to see someday!

So, all in all, a very exciting and fun watch, filled with heroic (and despicable) exploits by both men and women, and very well filmed (some reviews had led me to believe the movie would mostly take place in dark, shadowy corridors), so I'm giving this an easy 7 stars, and encourage anyone who likes action movies to give this one a try.... Peace! MFF/Honolulu 8-31-22.

Misses Its Potential

I watched Black Site because of the cast (Michelle Monaghan, Jai Courtney, Jason Clarke) - yes, in the end I was a little disappointed but nevertheless entertained to a certain degree too. The cast works well, the production is solid, but sadly the plot and story not: too generic the plot is and there are some really head scratching moments (like how the guards get overwhelmed by the bad guy). Anyway, you may try this one if you are interested in the cast and if you like that kind of special op movies - just don't expect too much.

Unwatchable

The acting is so poor, it feels like they got actors off of Craigslist. Absolutely garbage writing makes it that much worse.

Save your time and money. My husband used a free Redbox code and I would have rather that he let it expire than make me sit through this movie.

OMG this was SO bad

This was just dreadful.

It started with that scene 5 mins into the movie when her boss in glasses talks to her at the stairs - he might actually be THE worst actor I've ever seen and it just immediately took you out of the movie and you started seeing it as D-movie...which...it turned out to also be.

Uuugh...this was SO bad!

Low reviews a bit unfair

A 1 star review means it is the worst movie you have ever seen and there are plenty of those to choose from but not this, so i wish reviewers would learn to review properly on here its almost as bad as the 10 star shills.

The main female character is a bit miscast to be fair but most of the action and acting is about on par with the budget.

It is not as bad as people are making out, if you like your action movies and don't mind the budget it should suffice for an average nights viewing; yes it is not going to be London Has Fallen or another blockbuster but nor does it pretend to be and should be reviewed as such.

It is not mind blowing or with massive amounts of CGI but has some decent kills and fight scenes; i particularly liked the death by oven door scene and Jason Clarke does pull off a rather menacing and deadly bad guy. It is just a shame they cast Michelle Monaghan, although she does look good for a 50 year old, she just cannot do the hard nut female lead, we needed a Ripley or Vasquez to really lift this action thriller above the mediocre!

I gave up.

Why did the excellent Jason Clark and the always dependable, great looking Jai Courtney , along with OK actress Monaghan agree to do this. I guess they needed a paycheck. Produced by Redbox, I have no idea what this was about because after 20 minutes of nothing happening, I gave up. Completely bored , and Monaghan's sappy unrealistic character in the lead was borderline offensive. Believe the bad reviews, doing anything else is better than suffering through this.

Decent

Decent for an independent film. Few main stream actors. CGI isn't great and certain moments where the choreography seemed off. Could of been better I think if it had the financial backing.

Not Oscar Worthy But A Decent Action Film

This film will not win any Academy awards; but, a pretty good and very watchable film with a straightforward plot and a nice twist, albeit not all that unexpected. All but Monaghan's character are one dimensional; but, Michelle Monaghan gives a gritty, realistic performance that makes the film watchable. Action scenes were well done; but a couple plot points were badly mangled: e.g., if the site is under "lock down" and no one can get out of the secure facility, why can Monaghan get outside to connect with the antenna? I don't care for endings that setup for sequels that will never be made. Viewers have to realize that not all movies can be award winning, and do not let that keep you from enjoying average films that come along, especially since the choices are limited due to the pandemic. All things considered, definitely worth watching.

Only worth it for the fights

One of those very low budget thrillers shot on dark and repetitive sets. They make a lot of these lately and a lot of them have starred Bruce Willis, but this one's a bit different. The setting is a Middle Eastern prison site, where some special ops are struggling to contain a violent escaped prisoner. Monaghan looks the part but isn't particularly impressive as the lead, although Jason Clarke is better and Jai Courtney surprisingly good too. As with usual with such films, the script is underwhelming and the story non-existent, but the various fight sequences are quite physical and have semi-decent choreography too.

Istanbul is not in S.Arabia!

At the beginning of this movie it says "There was a bombing in Istanbul" and they show it in a map as if Istanbul is in Saudi Arabia!

It is for me very disappointing that there was nobody in the movie crew to notice this for a possible correction. How low of an edication can they have not to see this?

The place shown in the map is S. Arabia and somewhere between Suval and Dabahan, about 2500 miles away from Istanbul (wich is located in Türkiye) And Canada is a country of its own and not a city of USA. Some americans don't know this also. I saw that in a street reportage in america. You guys seriously need to check out your education system.
