If you keep trying long enough, something will eventually work out.

As a fan of the mystical sci-fi genre, I can say - the pilot turned out solid. The atmosphere is surprisingly cohesive, the direction confident, and the cast is average overall.

Melanie Scrofano - familiar from Wynonna Earp - fits organically into the dark tone of the story. There's something reminiscent of Preacher: that same strange, apocalyptic energy bordering on the absurd.

It's a shame the episodes are released weekly rather than all at once, which is frustrating in the streaming era. Still, the wait might actually build anticipation.

In the end, it's a solid genre piece that knows how to keep you intrigued. Recommended for those who appreciate a dark atmosphere, philosophical undertones, and quality execution.

Caught my intrest

While there were a few moments during the show that led me to glance at my phone due to some slower scenes, this is a common experience for most viewers. Overall, my excitement to see local landscapes, as the series was filmed in my hometown, kept my interest alive. The acting was superb, and the production quality stood out, showcasing a strong commitment to excellence. The first episode concluded with a cliffhanger that, while somewhat predictable, has left me eager to discover how the plot will unfold. I am truly looking forward to watching the remainder of the season, as the initial impressions have been very positive. Despite a few dull patches, I believe the overall experience is definitely worth the watch, and I can't wait to see where the story takes us in the episodes to come.

The Best New Supernatural Thriller in Years - Believe the Hype

REVIVAL isn't just a show-it's a mood, a mystery, and a masterclass in tension. Set in the quiet town of Wausau, Wisconsin, what starts as a bizarre miracle (the dead returning to life) quickly spirals into something far more unsettling. This isn't your average zombie tale. These people aren't hungry for brains-they're just... back. And that's what makes it so chilling.

The writing is razor-sharp. Every character feels grounded and deeply human, even as the surreal creeps in. There's a slow-burn Midwestern noir quality here-think Fargo meets The Leftovers with a splash of Stephen King.

Acting is great. Cinematography is gorgeous and eerily intimate. The music is haunting and moving, with a unique mix of instruments and vocal arrangements. And yes, I know I am saying this ABOUT A SYFY SHOW.

But it's the writing and questions that will keep you hooked: Why are the dead coming back? What do they remember? And what, if anything, do they want?

REVIVAL builds its mythology with confidence, daring you to keep up but never leaving you behind. It's gripping, emotional, and somehow feels both huge and deeply personal. This is prestige horror tv on a budget.

Do yourself a favor: Watch it before everyone starts spoiling the twists.

Z-z-Z-z

Found this boring perhaps because this plot has been done before, with a slight storyline that varies wrapped in mysteries.

The cast and acting was average, you didn't care or like anyone & the cinematography was drab.

Was clichéd & plotholes.. I realize you shouldn't judge a series by one episode, but it should hook you enough to come back.. Was the reveal finding out a sibling was dead, really cliffhanger worthy? No! Even showing what's to come on the season, didn't have me sitting on the edge of my seat.

I mean yawn! A single mom that seems stuck in a small town, with a chip on her shoulder & parent or sibling issues.

Unless the storylines each episode become intriguing, don't feel this will make my weekly watch list.

If you like this type of television genre to watch check it out, otherwise find something else to invest in.. Examples: Glitch or Travelers.

On a final note: People mention 4400 & how this one doesn't compare, that show didn't deal with dead but those who disappeared returning.. So,not exactly accurate.

I want more

A perfect cast and superb direction brings the original comic story to life under the showrunners of Aaron and Luke. The Cypresses have to deal with drama from Revivers and its a roller coaster of who is the main suspect with more twists and turns than a Twizzler. Melanie Scrofano brings the same intensity and wit as Wynonna Earp to a new family drama. Romy Weltman is wonderful as Em, struggling to deal with trauma both past and present. A real who dunnit, which resonates in today's climate much more than your ready for. Edge of the seat cliffhangers each week leave you wanting more of it all.

A Small-Town Murder Mystery with Big Surprises

Wasn't expecting much from this at first, but wow-REVIVAL totally pulled me in.

It's a low-budget show, but in the best way-intimate, grounded, and focused first and foremost on character. I am so invested in these sisters and all the quirky characters around them. But despite being a Low-budget SyFy series it somehow still has real scope, unlike any new show I have seen on that network in years. And then the mystery keeps unfolding in ways I didn't see coming. Dead people coming back to life without explanation is already creepy enough, but mixing that with a murder mystery? Where the girl is now alive? Genius.

The writing's tight, the cast is great, and there's a real sense of place. I binged the 1 and 2 on peacock and then signed up for SyFy to watch Episode 3 live as I couldn't wait! And now I'm dying (no pun intended) to see where it goes next. A hidden gem. I'm telling yall to seek this out!

Incredibly bad made

A compelling premise is tragically squandered by wooden performances, one-dimensional characters, and a narrative so clumsily constructed it borders on the amateurish.

As I progressed through the episodes, I found myself increasingly dismayed by the juvenile and uninformed execution of the plot. The characters lack depth or coherence-so inconsistent they feel procedurally generated rather than thoughtfully written.

What are intended to be dramatic high points veer into the unintentionally comedic. The cast's performances often teeter between exaggerated and inert, stripping the story of any emotional gravity. Reaching episode four felt less like entertainment and more like endurance.

To their credit, a few of the female actors make valiant attempts to inject nuance and vitality into their roles. Yet their efforts are undermined by disjointed editing and a narrative rhythm so erratic it's difficult to remain invested whatsoever.

The entire production, thus far, plays like a misguided elementary school student film project with no clear vision.

Happily surprised

As a resident of Wausau, and a fan of the comic its based off of, I was surprised at how this is turing out. Its not spot on to the comic, but its doing it justice. Its definitely a great take on the whole zombie genre. When the show was first annouced, the whole city was talking about it. It was featured in the news online and all over Facebook. Now, its not filmed in Wausau, minus some shots that are in-between actual scenes, but its still pretty awesome to see your home town mentioned over and over again. Still cant believe a comic I read years ago, became an actual show, and not a low budget one at that. Definitely wirth the watch.

Fun little zombie gem

This show is great! The writing, acting and directing is spot on. I am a huge fan of the Walking Dead, any zombie movie or show so I have seen a lot of zombies. The premise is interesting and I feel like it really hasn't been done. The main actress does a great job at maintaining and keeping the show interesting. Many of the actors I would not know however they all do such a great job in the show!! I found out about this show from one of the actors, Lenore Zann who is great. She mentioned she was filming it last year. If you like zombies, or just a very interesting show watch this. I really hope it gets renewed for further seasons!!!

Too Close for Comfort

I loved the show...so far, that is. It had thrills and some unexpected things going on; however, my other half came into the room and said, "So Wynonna became the sheriff?" If you're going to do a show like this...you may want to get different actors that haven't played in some other show that is somewhat similar. To tell the truth though Melanie Scrofano wasn't recognizable to me. I guess some people remember faces better than others. But, the same thing somewhat happened when we watched SurrealEstate...I didn't realize that Tim Rozon was the same guy that played Doc Holliday, which is weird when they make them look so different.

Enjoyable

Okay, the show is not ordinary Syfy bad shows. I love it. It had it all mystery, drama, sci-fi, emotionally moments and its a reality check about how people are connected to each other. I hope they don't cancelled it after the season. If you want to watch something different, which will keeps you on the edge this is perfect show. I can tell that the cast play very well their roles. Yes there are some plot holes but atleast for now its a very promising show. I dont know why there are a lot of bad reviews. This might be gem of the year so give it a try. Lets see how it will end then make a judgment.

So much fun

This show is so much fun. Great writing. Blends humor with a great mystery and heartfelt moments between the family at the center of it all. I can't wait to see where this goes. NOT your normal Syfy show. This is smart, fresh, well-written. Melanie Scrofano is fantastic.

This is also not your normal zombie show that has been done to death. It's a show that focuses on the humanity of the small town it is set in. It is intimate and speaks to many of the big issues that are facing us today.

The cliffhangers at the end of the episodes always have me wishing this weren't a weekly drop. I want to binge all of it now!

Like something out of the 90s

It all feels really dated. Based on the tech, it does seem set in the early 00s? But the writing stayed stuck there too. Everything feels super clichéd, the macho sheriff, the grandson who is sure to turn out to be precocious... None of the characters feel fleshed out. Some of the acting is weak. It looks cheap. It glosses over the important plot points - hope you paused the episode on the news outlining the "rules" of who came back! - to spend all its time with the main character in her car or on the phone. It feels like nothing happens at all. The opening scene is off-putting, and the end of the first episode gets pulpy, action and body horror. It's all just boring and weird.

Not a good show

The actors deserved better. The show is not so good. The writing is poor. Most of the characters are not well developed. The sherriff adds nothing to the story. But he is overbearing and small minded. This is not a new idea. It's a rip off of an international show. David James Elliot as the sheriff is so annoying. It's a decent watch if you have low expectations but not ever going to be considered good. There are very few interesting or good characters. Too many with flaws. This show could have and should have been written better. Find the international version and skip this. The premise is good. The idea is good. The execution poor.

Absolute cinema.

So far watching this show, I can say that I love it and think it's amazing.

The cast and acting is great, the plot is just as great, and each episode was getting better and better each time.

So far I am excited for episode 9 and 10 to drop and I hope they will be just as good as episode 8 was.

Plus, I loved Steven Ogg's role as Blaine Abel!

It seems writers and producers are out of original ideas

Viewers might be happier watching the Australian series "Glitch" (2015) and also "The Returned" (2012).

As another viewer pointed out, if this tv show goes on while others that came before were canceled, yikes.

Just once more the recycling of existing ideas with overall low effort, bad acting and an even worse writing. Is creativity dead and gone? Did we really hit that time when everything is gonna be a watered down version of what has been done or attempted before? I felt like having to force myself to keep going till the end just to give it the benefit of the doubt. This one is definitely not worth of your time.

Writers screw up again.

A Governor has no authority over the CDC. She cannot force a change of leadership within the CDC team nor does she have the authority to permit a junior researcher to continue torture. Please spare me the "it's just fiction" noise. Yes it maybe fiction, but it's still dealing with real world entities (state vs. Federal) and laws.

Had the writers done a simple bit of research they'd have learned this, Should have learned this.

5 episodes in and the continued insult to my intelligence is too much and I refuse to bite my tongue.

Please stop the willful ignorance and stupidity and stop treating viewers like morons!

Not gonna hate on this, but...

The introduction of the show left me with a bad taste in my mouth. I didn't like any of the characters. The writing was really inconsistent and tonally all over the place. One minute we're supposed to be taking a scene seriously and the next everyone is cracking joke that don't land. If you're going to write a show about zombies or 'revivers', you need to pick a lane. Either have fun with it and lean into it or take it seriously and lean into that, but cracking jokes after something the show clearly wants you to take seriously, just leaves me feeling confused. How can I take it seriously, if the characters don't?

I'm sure a show like this will find an audience, but I am not that audience. And if I'm being honest, I hated The Walking Dead. After I realized it was nothing but a giant idiot plot, I never made it past the third episode, so take that as you will. Having idiots as characters isn't necessarily bad, in and of itself, but the idiot's motives and action have to actually make some sort of sense.

Good writing advice I've heard before: if your character is urgently driving somewhere and you need them to not make it in time, don't have them stop for a burger, instead have them break the speed limit and get pulled over for it. Both are mistakes, but the latter is understandable and consistent with their motivation, while the former is just stupid.

Read the comic

I saw that Seeley was involved with this title and I loved his work on the comic Hack/Slash. When I realized this was an adaptation of a comic he worked on after that I went and checked out the first few issues to get a better idea of what was being adapted.

After finishing episode one of the show and seeing the weird changes they made, I am far less excited because I doubt this will see a season 2.

The comic handled each and every event in a far better and more intelligent way. The entire end of episode 1 feels like a Temu low budget version of those events compared to the comic counterpart.

The central characters are so much unlike their far more interesting comic book counterparts it makes very little sense. I thought when watching the show that maybe the comic just didn't flesh them out very well. The comic gave them terrific character moments and dynamic moments that explore their personalities the director just cut out.

Syfy, you had The Magicians, you are capable of better than this. Please, give us adaptations that aren't this soulless.

Completely Underwhelmed

For me... Just getting straight to the point... -The acting didn't connect. So much was overreacted and under delivered.

-The music felt the same. It just felt flat. It seemed disconnected from what I was watching. I don't know if it was the music editor but they just didn't seem to work well together. (the music and the visual.) -The plot was old, overdone, and somewhat predictable.

-It looked good and seemed coloured well overall but the look and lutz choices were probably my favourite part of it.

Everything else was just underwhelming for me.

I've watched the first two episodes and I'm still trying to decide whether or not to give the third episode of shot.
