Great entertainment.

It's clear by now that if you're a Tolkien purist and demand this to be exact or close as can be to the books and lore then steer clear as the show will just annoy you.

For fans who are open to interpretation/change, who only watched the movies or those who are new to the world it's clearly a very entertaining and visually spectacular looking show.

I thought the actor playing Sauron is expecially good, worming his way into people's minds and deceiving all to achieve his ends. The visuals, as per season one, are stunning too. A lot of the criticism is based on the inaccuracies to tolkein's work so I think best to steer clear if you're likely to be annoyed by that. If you can look past it and are excited to see the main story and locations of the 2nd age brought to life then you'll enjoy it!

Big improvement

It's clear to me that the show runners have taken on board at least some of the criticism of season 1.

They've launched into some genuinely exciting action to kick things off after the glacially slow pace of the previous series. They've ditched some of the cumbersome dialog which made the first series feel a bit too serious and laughable at times (though some dialogue is on the nose, particularly the intro for Cirdan).

They've also given some characters genuinely interesting things to do - looking forward to the continuation of the series provided the mix of action and drama continues. Optimistic for the rest of the episodes after a lacklustre season 1.

Light and shadow but finally worth watching

I can understand that people were raging due to many atrocious aspects of the first season, like cringy writing, design of costumes, athmosphere and clunky plot holes and conviniences but although the second season is not free from those so far, I found it quite entertaining, more like Tolkien and not forced meaningfull. Therefore I am really interested how it will develop over time. Having said that praises should be rather calm because there is still a lot I did not find convincing and there is a lot to make up for. I would advice anyone to give it another chance, but do not campare it to the trilogy, because you will only be diappointed by this comparison. The trilogy was extraordinary but this show can be and become good.

Surprisingly good start to a season

A surprisingly very good start. Was actually extremely interested the whole episode. Last season was slow but understandable for a 5 season shows first season. Started very well here, besides what everyone says about what's true to books what's now. I'm an avid Tolkien book reader & devoted to the films. But this show for me is all about entertainment. We've had the books which is the most entertaining of all then we had the best movies of our generation. Let's not get greedy, let's just try to enjoy more LOTR & this could be a very nice season! Very good scene with the elves putting the 3 rings on & got me excited for the season!

This season is much better

First of all, I would like to comment on this season as someone who judges the series with prejudice. This season has improved itself in many ways compared to the first season in terms of dialogue, in terms of shooting, with a darker theme and new characters, not to mention the music, in a word, wonderful, of course, we need to see the whole series first. But it is clear that he has already done a good job, so instead of prejudging, we should help more people to know and love this story written by Tolkien because there are very few productions about this universe. And you know this universe deserves more, so please don't try to bring it down, do what you can and protect it.

Very weak dialogue

I really wanted to like this, as a Tolkien fan, but really find it hard to like.

The beauty of Tolkien is all in the dialogue and his poetic descriptions of the landscape. Peter Jackson's Trilogy suceeded by staying faithful to Tolkien's writing, even when adapting it for movie. The dialogues here are cringy, forced and unnatural, the acting is mostly average..

The elves, for instance, don;t display the kind of angry and deceitful temperament shown here.

One of the most compelling aspects of LoTR is Tolkien's masterful world-building. The author creates a rich and detailed world filled with diverse cultures, languages, and histories. From the idyllic Shire to the treacherous mountains of Mordor, Tolkien's world is immersive and believable, drawing the reader in from the very first page.

Tolkien's writing style is lyrical and evocative, with vivid descriptions that bring Middle Earth to life. Here the world feels like a series of expensive shots with camera moving too rapidly from one to another to allow immersion in a world.

In Tolkien the dialogue between characters is natural and believable, adds depth and complexity to the story. In the LoTR Trilogy the world felt both magical and real. The Rings of Power world feels fake at every turn, because of the acting, the script, and the pacing.

Amazing start! Haters please do not bother watching and do not ruin our show

Amazing start of season 2.

All the plots are interesting now, even the harfoot's one. Very excited to know what exactly happens with the rings of power and how Sauron manipulates everyone in his way to bring his plan forward.

Acting is OK, obviously not Leo DiCaprio level, but completely acceptable for a TV show.

Visuals are amazing as usual, music is also very good, always making you remember what you are watching.

I also read every book, and as usual you cant ever compare movies to books as it "always" falls short. I believe in that case LOTR was a standout as the movies are in my opinion even better than the books.

I urge the haters to stop watching this show, as it is actually depressing having to look at your pointless critics now. If Season 1 was so bad, why did you watch until the end and why are you watching now season 2? Dont you have anything better to waste your time on?

Critics like the elves are terrible when they are clearly way prettier and knowledgeable than the other races as they should be. Critics like their ears are to big. Completely laughable.

If you are so puritan that you can not enjoy this TV show, please do not watch it and stick to the books. Do us all a favor including yourself and waste your time on something better.

This show is underrated!

This episode was a fantastic start to the season, setting a high bar for what's to come. It's puzzling to see what more an episode could need to earn an 8+ rating. Are people seriously expecting this show to match the cinematic brilliance of Peter Jackson's iconic trilogy? While it's perfectly fine to have high expectations, it's unrealistic to compare this series to one of the greatest film trilogies of all time. Let's appreciate this show for what it truly is: a beautifully crafted narrative exploring the Second Age of Middle-earth. Remember, this is the first-ever film portrayal of this era, introducing new and exciting stories to the screen. So instead of spreading hate, let's sit back, relax, and enjoy this innovative and visually stunning show.

The adventure continues

Loved the first episode of season 2. I have never read the books which makes the story here completely fascinating for me.

I really like the cast. Will miss Joseph as Adar but I'm confident I will get used to the recast.

The making is very beautiful. The atmosphere is on point. You feel the tension and menacing. It's very engaging.

I started this episode wondering what was the connection between Adar and Sauron and we get this covered first part of the episode. I enjoyed to see how the spirit of Sauron survived and embodied Halbrand.

Cannot fault the serie so far and i hope it continues :)

I'll keep watching because I loved the books, but the show itself is just okay.

After the conclusion of season two, I approached the first episode of the new season with some skepticism and admittedly low expectations. Unfortunately, my concerns were not unfounded. The episode feels disjointed, with a narrative that skips around too much, making it difficult to follow any cohesive storyline. The acting, disappointingly, shows no signs of improvement, and the show seems to have abandoned any meaningful character development or storytelling depth that once made it engaging.

Given the substantial budget allocated to this series, one would expect a more polished and refined product. As it stands, the show appears to be struggling creatively, leaving much to be desired. I plan to continue watching in the hope that it will improve, but the current trajectory suggests that it might be time for a new team of writers to step in and steer the series back on course.

Elven Kings Under the Sky

This is a show that will probably never gain the admiration of the entire fanbase, but no matter what anybody tries to say, it is a show that displays the full soul of Tolkien's work. Is it word-for-word from the page of his works, no; but the great thing about this universe is that it can expand and become something else all the time. The first season largely worked for me and is still one of the most spectacular visual things I've seen on television. And the second season continues in a similar fashion: incredible production value and a premise that lays some great groundwork.

The scope of this show is very broad, and this season is going very far in bringing forward a story that will encapsulate everyone and everything in Middle-earth as a part of this growing conflict. At the heart of it all is Sauron, who revealed himself in the previous season's finale and is very much the central character of this first episode. The opening minutes feature an origin of how he became the Halbrand version that we know him as and it's very intriguing. A unique take on why he went into hiding and why he is so hellbent on revenge against the ones who betrayed him. But like with everything, it's a big game that he plays and will have everybody doing his bidding in no time. The Elves are uniting under a new symbol of the three rings, which can be a very dangerous road forward, but becomes one of the show's most beautiful scenes which showcases the absolutely stunning visuals of this show. There's not a lot like it on television at the moment when it comes to the visuals. There are a lot of teases throughout the episode and the Stranger plot still seems to be plotting forward a lot, which can easily become tiresome if it doesn't get a bit of context very soon. It's still fascinating to watch, but it can easily become boring if not treated right. And the teaser for the rest of the season was epic and makes me want to continue watching it all immediately.

"Elven Kings Under the Sky" brings the story forward with a big focus on Sauron, setting him up as the central character of the season. The episode features a lot of setup and it can be tiresome at certain points, but the beauty of the visuals and the dedication from the crew keeps it flowing.

Slight improvement, but still a disappointment

The first episode of Season 2 deserves some praise to begin with. The color grading is more thematically consistent and there is some attempt at steering the story away from disaster. The cinematography is still way above average, which is why it deserves the 6/10 rating.

That being said, the initial portrayal of Sauron before certain things happen is laughable. The wimpy delivery of the first few lines legitimately had me in disbelief, as if anyone with that kind of demeanor would be taken seriously as a Dark Lord. Then he proceeds to turn into Venom or Lestat from Interview With The Vampire and feed on Animals to survive, it truly is stolen concepts with 0 creativity as its worst.

The dialogue just continues to get worse and worse, except for some of the interactions between During, Elrond and Disha, who continue to be the beating heart and saving grace of this show.

Rings of Power is not Lord of the Rings, even at its absolute best it is a glorified fan fiction coupled with amazing cinematography.

A Dismal Return

Oh, how the mighty have fallen. The first episode of *The Rings of Power*'s second season has arrived, and it's as if the writers threw darts at a board to decide on the plot. Spoiler alert: none of those darts hit the mark. The storyline is so ludicrous, it feels like it was concocted during a particularly uninspired lunchtime brainstorm session. We are plunged into a narrative so convoluted and nonsensical that it makes even the most surreal fever dreams seem coherent by comparison.

The episode kicks off with a tedious monologue, setting the tone for an hour of dialogue so clunky and contrived, it could have been written by a middle school drama club. Characters spew out lines that are meant to be profound but instead land with all the grace of a lead balloon. One minute, they're spouting vague prophecies, and the next, they're exchanging banter so awkward, it's like watching someone trip over their own feet repeatedly. Any attempt at humor falls flatter than a pancake, and the dramatic moments are so overplayed they verge on parody.

The plot developments-if you can even call them that-are baffling. Characters make decisions that defy logic, driven by motivations that are about as clear as mud. You have ancient beings, supposedly wise beyond measure, engaging in petty squabbles and making boneheaded choices that leave you wondering if they've been drinking the water from Mordor. The supposed twists and turns are telegraphed from a mile away, so predictable that even the most casual viewer will be left rolling their eyes.

Then there's the acting, a spectacle unto itself. The cast appears to be channeling the worst of community theater, with performances that range from comically overwrought to completely lifeless. The newcomers blend into the background like poorly painted scenery, while the returning characters are a shadow of their former selves, drained of any charm or complexity. It's a cringe-worthy display of talent being wasted on dialogue so painfully bad, you can almost hear the actors mentally calculating their paychecks.

In short, the first episode of *The Rings of Power* season two is a masterclass in how not to make television. Ridiculous plot lines, atrocious writing, and lackluster acting combine to create an experience that's more of a chore than a pleasure to watch. If this is a taste of what's to come, then the rest of the season is bound to be an exercise in endurance, not entertainment. Save yourself the agony-there are more enjoyable ways to waste an hour, like watching paint dry or reorganizing your sock drawer.

An optimistic Start

Steering the direction of the season to a more Sauron focus from Galdriel is beneficial to the shows depth in my opinion. This prologue, while potentially retconning the previous seasons prologue a little with the level of power Sauron had before his fall, was great to add to the character we had through season 1 and a joy to watch. Halbrand is done very well in this episode, entertaining to watch now that we're in on his secret.

On Galdriel, it was nice how the elves handled her this time, holding her accountable to her actions in season 1. They are teeing up nicely how why she would doubt herself when Frodo offers her the ring in book 2 of the Fellowship. She has spent the time growing from her 'youth' to the point where Saurons influence no longer has any influence over her. So I expect her to have some more learning to do with potentially corrupting nature of a ring of power before becoming the character we know from the original trilogy.

Elrond has been shown to grow as a character as well, who mirrors Galdriel from season one and defying their king in order to follow what they believe is right where as before he would have fallen in line.

Nori and The Strangers story is nice now with the more focused cast where the bond between the two characters is deepened. It's our first time seeing the lands in the East, so what lies there is just as much a mystery to us as it is the character and may explain why the Istari show up in Middle Earth later than the events so far shown in the series.

Beautiful Beginning of the second season

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power season 2 is now available on Prime Video, following over two years of anticipation. The season follows Galadriel, who discovers that Sauron is present and offers a position in his new world. Sauron ends the season heading for Mordor to reclaim his crown. Celebrimbor, Elrond, and Galadriel craft three rings using the Mithril to extend the Elves' time on Middle-earth. Sauron's hooks are already in Celebrimbor, as he parroted a line from Suaron's past to Gil-galad in the season finale. The Stranger, a wizard, is revealed to be Nori Harfoot, who abandons her community to help the Stranger fulfill his destiny. The season 2 premiere, "Elven Kings Under the Sky," introduces Sauron's backstory and his attempt to win over the orcs to see through his vision of the future. However, Adar and the orcs betray Sauron, and he is mauled by orcs. Despite his valiant fight, the orcs leave him for dead, but something unexpected happens that Adar and the orcs did not intend. Sauron, a blob of blood, regains his strength and travels to the sea, where he meets Galadriel. Elrond flees Eregion and takes the rings to Gil-galad, who reveals that her companion, Halbrand, is not who he claims to be. Galadriel reveals that he deceived her and they are blinded by her pride. Elrond tries to tell Gil-galad to destroy the rings, but Gil-galad knows that the rings are the only way to stop Sauron and save the people of Middle-earth. Sauron, disguised as Halbrand, is captured on his way back to Mordor. He meets Adar and demands the people of the Southlands be set free. Halbrand reveals that Galadriel has instructed the Elves to create a "great weapon" and "power over flesh" and find a great sorcerer who is still alive. This scares the orcs, who don't want Sauron to return. Adar instructs Halbrand to reveal the details of this plan, but he withholds it. The orcs beat him while holding him captive to retrieve the information. Waldreg offers Halbrand food in exchange for information, but Sauron doesn't bite. They beat him again as Adar listens on. Sauron might be gone, but he lives rent-free in their heads.

Wake me up when the second age ends

Yet another season of Rings of Power that fails to get off the mark and grip me. Whilst some of the scenes were attention grabbing, the plot, dialogue, and characters on the whole fall flat and leave me uninterested to carry on with this show.

It again feels like the creators are unwilling to take any risks with plot direction and feels very "safe". Hardcore LOTR fans will be disappointed and fantasy fans will be fast asleep by the end of the episode.

I had real hopes that the second season would apply some "learning from experience" from season 1. But yet again it falls into the all too common category of "boring" that many shows do these days.

I can draw parallels to Star Wars The Acolyte: some interesting and well put together scenes. But overall very weak show.
