Warning! This post contains spoilers for A Man on the Inside and The Good Place.
Ted Danson's new Netflix show, A Man on the Inside, includes several Easter eggs and references to another incredibly popular Ted Danson show, The Good Place. The Good Place premiered in 2016, and it quickly became a smash hit, not only because of the brilliant cast of the show, which starred Kristen Bell as leading character Eleanor Shellstrop, but also because of The Good Place's shocking plot twist. Danson's character in A Man on the Inside, Charles, in many ways perfectly pays off his character in The Good Place, Michael.
While Michael and Charles are one clear link between the two shows, though, there are many connections to The Good Place in A Man on the Inside. In addition to a number of cameos from some of The Good Place's main characters,...

This year’s Filmart was definitely bigger and busier than last year, which was the first physical edition following the reopening of Hong Kong and mainland China’s borders after the pandemic. According to Filmart organizers, the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (Hktdc), more than 750 exhibitors and 7,500 visitors attended this year’s Filmart, compared to around 700 exhibitors and 7,300 visitors in 2023.
But despite frenetic meeting activity, the market did little to dispel fears that international sales business in the region, already in decline before the pandemic, is not yet recovering.
International sales agents under the IFTA and European Film Promotion (Efp) umbrellas had packed meeting schedules. “It’s been good. Much busier than last year, which was right after lockdown in China and Hong Kong. And it’s a good time to connect with Chinese and Asian colleagues who rarely travel,” said Pinnacle Peak Pictures’ Ron Gell.

Although it made him a household name and led to a hugely successful Hollywood career, Patrick Stewart wasn't the biggest star attached to Star Trek: The Next Generation when it first aired in 1987. Patrick Stewart wasn't Gene Roddenberry's preferred choice for the role of Captain Jean-Luc Picard, and he doubted that the classically trained actor would be a good fit for the captain's chair. As Star Trek author Mark A. Altman observed in Peter Holstrom's book The Center Seat: 55 Years of Star Trek, Patrick Stewart didn't have many strong Hollywood credits to his name, and this may have further impeded his chances of being cast as Picard.
Although Stewart had predominantly done theater and had roles in, to quote Altman, "bad movies like Lifeforce", he had also been in some of the most critically acclaimed British TV dramas of the 1970s and 80s. Stewart had appeared in Tinker, Tailor,...

This post contains spoilers for the latest episode of "The Mandalorian."
Talk about a change of pace. After easing viewers back into the flow of things during its first two episodes of the new season, episode 3 of "The Mandalorian" season 3 begins innocently enough with an extended aerial battle between Pedro Pascal's Din Djarin and Katee Sackhoff's Bo-Katan and a fleet of Tie Interceptors. But then it does something altogether unlike "The Mandalorian" as we've come to know it over the years. We suddenly shift gears completely and proceed to spend the bulk of the hour without any of our usual heroes. In fact, we follow one of the earliest antagonists established in the series: the sinister Dr. Penn Pershing (Omid Abtahi), one of the main architects behind Moff Gideon's (Giancarlo Esposito) attempts to kidnap and experiment on little Grogu.
If such a dramatic change in perspective and setting wasn't jarring enough,...

It’s official: Working Title Films is king of the UK box office.
This weekend, Eric Fellner and Tim Bevan’s powerhouse production banner became the first British company to earn $1B (£770M) at the UK box office, thanks to the release of Bridget Jones’s Baby, which has so far earned $41.1M in the UK after three weeks at number one.
It’s an unprecedented milestone for the company, which has released more than 100 titles since its inception in 1983 (Fellner and Bevan have been at the helm since 1992), including Four Weddings and a Funeral, Notting Hill, Billy Elliot as well as award-winning fare like Fargo, Elizabeth and Atonement.
What makes this particular crown so special for Working Title, is that the company has achieved this number on its home turf largely through original, non-franchise British properties. Not even Eon Productions’ James Bond franchise nor Warner Bros’ Harry Potter films have...
