Blumhouse Productions is an American film and television production company most well-known for its releases in the horror genre. While the production company doesn't dabble much outside the genre, it ping-pongs between different horror sub-genres. Slashers, the paranormal, and even killer robots are fair game by Blumhouse's standards. As such, they have produced many experimental films of varying quality.

Jason Blum founded Blumhouse Productions in the year 2000. For the last 24 years, Blumhouse has been behind some of the best modern horror movies. Some notable films include Paranormal Activity (2009), Sinister (2012), The Purge (2013), Hush (2016), and the incredible Halloween reboot that came out in 2018. Since 2020, Blumhouse has pumped out some of its best movies yet, including The Invisible Man and Black as Night.

Black As Night director Maritte Lee Go explores the horrors of motherhood in the new “Tales From the Void” episode “Carry,” which premiered yesterday on Screambox.

The original series delivers six chilling tales adapted from the extremely popular r/No Sleep (18M subs) stories from series creator Francesco Loschiavo.

Two episodes premiere exclusively on Screambox every Sunday, through October 27. The episodes will also be available to buy or rent via electronic sell-through platforms the following Tuesday.

“Carry” adapts the r/NoSleep story “Pro-Life” by Grayson Grume, a story that struck a personal and timely chord for Maritte Lee Go. “‘Carry’ is about a young woman who gets married,” the filmmaker tells us. “She comes from a very, very religious family, with a religious new husband, and she becomes pregnant. The baby is diagnosed with anencephaly, which is a condition where the brain is exposed, and the skull is not present.

Screambox’s brand new Original Series, “Tales From the Void,” is an anthology series that adapts six tales of terror from the extremely popular r/No Sleep community by series creator Francesco Loschiavo.

Anthology series “Tales From the Void” debuts this Sunday on Screambox with the first two episodes: “Into the Unknown” and “Fixed Frequency.”

Two episodes will then premiere exclusively on Screambox every Sunday between October 13 and October 27. The episodes will also be available to buy or rent via electronic sell-through platforms the following Tuesday.

“Tales from the Void” features episodes directed by Joe Lynch (Suitable Flesh), John Adams & Toby Poser (Hellbender), Maritte Lee Go (Black As Night), and series creator Francesco Loschiavo. Each episode is accompanied by a post-show interview with the original author, hosted by No Sleep Podcast creator David Cummings.

Helming episodes while showrunning an anthology series was a huge undertaking for Loschiavo, who was committed to doing these stories justice.

Fans of “Tales From the Crypt” and horror-tinged anthology series like “Black Mirror” get ready for “Tales From the Void”, Screambox‘s brand new Original Series that delivers six chilling tales of terror, each adapted from the extremely popular r/No Sleep (18M subs) stories! Variety first reported the news this afternoon.

The first episode will play several festivals before premiering this fall on the Bloody Disgusting-powered streaming service, just in time for Halloween.

Created by Francesco Loschiavo, the series features the directorial talents of renowned filmmakers including Joe Lynch (Mayhem), Maritte Lee Go (Black as Night), The Adams Family (Hellbender), and Francesco Loschiavo himself.

This Canadian co-production brings together Envoi Entertainment, Heroes & Ghosts, Rusty Halo Productions, and the esteemed genre outlet Paper Street Pictures.

Francesco Loschiavo and John Thomas Kelley serve as co-showrunners on the series, produced by Barclay J. Maude, with support from Rebeka Herron and Martin Wotjunik.

Viral scary stories from Reddit will be coming to life in a new series headed to horror streaming service Screambox.

Cineverse has acquired the exclusive streaming rights to “Tales From the Void,” an anthology adaptation of stories that originated on the popular subreddit r/NoSleep. Created by Francesco Loschiavo, the show will consist of six stories from the massive scary story community, which has 18 million subscribers. The series is set to debut this fall on the horror streaming service Screambox.

“Tales From the Void” will feature work from genre directors Joe Lynch (“Suitable Flesh”), Maritte Lee Go (“Black as Night”), the Adams Family (“Hellbender”) and Loschiavo.

Lynch is directing the pilot, based on “The Black Square” by Matt Dymserski. Other r/NoSleep stories will include “Betsy The Doll” by Rebecca Klingel and “I used to hack baby monitors. But one night I learned my lesson.” by Manen Lyset.

Happy Halloweekend, dear readers! The best weekend of the year has finally arrived, and I don’t know about you, but I’m ready to indulge in all sorts of spooky shenanigans over the next few days. For this Halloween edition of “From Streams to Screams,” I decided to focus on horror movies that have come out in the last few years that would be perfect to enjoy while celebrating the arrival of Halloween.

There’s a terrifying amount of scare-centric programming this October, whether it’s being broadcast or streamed.

Paramount+ has announced its “Peak Screaming” package, which will encompass scary movies, kids shows and originals. Amazon, of course, is releasing four original Blumhouse films this month: Bingo Hell, Black as Night, The Manor and Madres. Peacock may have the largest cache of Halloween goodies, none more tasty than the latest installment of that most seasonally-appropriate of franchises, Halloween Kills. There’s a certain charm to modest genre offerings that most viewers wouldn’t seek out beyond October, when so many of us spend the entire month immersed in all things horror. Though “Madres” probably wasn’t planning to fall under that umbrella, at least it’s in good company. Arriving as part of Welcome to the Blumhouse, an annual series of four Amazon Originals produced by, well, Blumhouse, director Ryan Zaragoza’s socially conscious chiller evokes everything from “Rosemary’s Baby” to the folklore tale of La Llorona while trying — but only occasionally succeeding — to carve a space for itself in that crowded milieu. It’s the kind of distraction you might pad a midnight-movie marathon with, likely sandwiched between more accomplished films with similar thematic underpinnings.

Another case in point is “Black As Night,” which joins “Bingo Hell” in a second annual quartet of Halloween releases rolling out on Amazon Prime.

Maritte Lee Go’s solo feature directorial debut is a sort of female African-American spin on “The Lost Boys,” chronicling what its heroine pegs as “The summer I got breasts and fought vampires.” It works well enough as a teen supernatural melodrama, reasonably slick if a tad silly — less well as straight-up horror, let alone as a commentary on race-centric historical and political issues that never feel more than pasted-on here.

Spooky season has officially arrived! If you’re looking for a family-friendly movie to get you in the spirit of Halloween without actually scaring the kids, then you might enjoy “The Addams Family 2.”

The animated sequel to the 2019 film was released in theaters and video on demand on Friday, which means audiences can decide between leaving the house or watching comfortably from home. One of the lesser-sung items among umpteen offbeat little ’70s movies was Larry Yust’s “Homebodies.” That 1974 black comedy on the cusp of horror was about a community of frail old retirees who turn out to be surprisingly vigorous — even homicidal — in defending their homes from the callous forces of market-driven “progress.” A similar premise is the starting point for “Bingo Hell,” which alongside “Black as Night” kicks off the second quartet of genre features premiering under the “Welcome to the Blumhouse” umbrella on Amazon Prime. The event is a series of unique, unsettling thrillers developed and produced with an eye towards original, diverse storytelling. The ‘Welcome to the Blumhouse’ slate once again showcases both well-established and breakout actors collaborating with emerging, predominantly female, directors.

Bingo Hell

Blumhouse and Amazon Prime Video are at it again with another round of "Welcome to the Blumhouse" films. Last year, four Blumhouse movies premiered directly on Prime Video, and the results were...not great. Perhaps this new round of movies will be an improvement. Once again, we'll be getting four new movies, with two dropping on one weekend, and two more dropping the following weekend. A government testing facility is home to eerie experiments on people with extreme fears in Phobias, and with the new horror anthology film out now on Digital and On Demand via Vertical Entertainment, we caught up with filmmaker Maritte Lee Go to discuss her segment for the movie, Vehophobia (which she co-wrote with Broderick Engelhard), including the chilling real-life experience that inspired the story, working with Radio Silence (who executive produced the film), and she also discussed her upcoming "Welcome to the Blumhouse" movie, Black as Night.

L. Scott Caldwell will star in Blumhouse and Amazon’s “Bingo,” the latest thriller on the “Welcome to the Blumhouse” slate.

The Tony Award-winning actor, known for her roles as Rose in “Lost” and in “The Fugitive” will star as Delores, the “witty, loyal and tough grandmother” at the center of “Bingo’s” story.

Caldwell joins previously announced stars Adriana Barraza (Oscar nominee for “Babel”), who plays Delores’ best friend Lupita, and “The Good Lord Bird” breakout Joshua Caleb Johnson, as her grandson Caleb.

Set in the barrio of Oak Springs, the film follows a strong and stubborn group of elderly friends who refuse to be gentrified. Lupita is the leader of the group, keeping them together as a community, a family, but little do they know, their beloved Bingo hall is about to be sold to a much more powerful force than money itself.

Joshua Caleb Johnson, the breakout star of the acclaimed Showtime series “The Good Lord Bird,” has landed a key role in the upcoming Blumhouse feature “Bingo.”

One of several pics on Blumhouse’s Amazon Studios genre slate, highlighting female and emerging filmmakers, the film from director and co-writer Gigi Saul Guerrero also stars Adriana Barraza.

Johnson will play Caleb, a teenager being raised by a single mother and living in his grandmother’s home. He’s torn between his anger at the tough hand he’s been dealt in life, and longs for connection, love and acceptance.

“Bingo” follows a strong and stubborn group of elderly friends who refuse to be gentrified in the barrio of Oak Springs. The first annual BlumFest kicked off today with several stars of upcoming Blumhouse films and TV shows sharing news about their projects. The event was hosted and moderated by Jacqueline Coley, editor at Rotten Tomatoes and kicked off with an introduction by Jason Blum.

Amazon Prime Video has unveiled The Manor, Black as Night, Madres and Bingo as the final four films in the eight-film genre anthology. The quartet will debut on the streaming platform in 2021.

Amazon on Thursday revealed the next four films to be released next year as part of its “Welcome to the Blumhouse” series. The first four genre movies in the collection launched on Prime Video this month.

Just like the first four films of the program, the next group represents four unique stories that are connected by common themes, including institutional horrors and personal phobias. The “social thrillers,” as Amazon terms them, are helmed by up-and-coming directors.
