The Cyrus Family Feud: How Noah and Tish Ended Up in a Romance Scandal With the Same Man
Image
If there’s ever been a family whose drama could give reality shows a run for their money, it’s the Cyruses. Honestly, with all the chaos swirling around them lately, it’s a miracle there isn’t a 24/7 live stream set up in their home. From heartbreak to loyalty switches and a love triangle, the family has encountered everything. Their life can be turned into a full season of television. The Cyrus clan is tangled up in something juicier than most Netflix scripts.

The whole drama started to fire up after Billy Ray Cyrus and Tish Cyrus split up in 2022. The couple ended their nearly three-decade-long buzzworthy marriage. That alone would’ve been headline-worthy. But what followed turned the whole thing into a tangled family web. The divorce didn’t just split up the parents; it seemed to divide the kids, too.

With each side picking emotional allegiances, the...

Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Jay Duplass Join Amazon YA Series ‘Sterling Point’
Image
Both Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Jay Duplass have been cast in Megan Park’s upcoming Amazon Prime Video series “Sterling Point,” Variety has learned.

The young adult show was originally announced in January. Morgan and Duplass will appear in recurring roles as Joe and Steven respectively. They will appear alongside previously announced cast members Ella Rubin, Amélie Elisabeth Hoeferle, Daniel Quinn-Toye, Jacob Whiteduck-Lavoie, Bo Bragason, and Keen Ruffalo.

Exact plot details are being kept under wraps, but sources say the show follows a set of adopted twins (Rubin and Ruffalo) who travel to an island on a lake that was left to them by their estranged grandfather in his will.

Morgan currently stars in the AMC series “The Walking Dead: Dead City,” reprising the role of Negan that he first played in the mothership series. He also currently appears in the Prime Video series “The Boys,” with that show prepping its fifth and final season.

Everything Coming to Hulu and Disney+ in June
Image
While the Max rebrand back to HBO Max has the streaming world in a tizzy, it’s worth remembering the significance of keeping diverse subscriptions. While “Hacks” and “The Last of Us” wrap up over on that side of your library, the Hulu and Disney bundle is essential for maximizing this summer’s offerings.

Disney+ continues to be the go-to streamer for family friendly viewing options; this month, they’ll add the official “Frozen” Broadway musical to that library, along with Marvel’s “Ironheart,” about Riri Williams (Dominique Thorne) who was introduced in “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.”

Hulu has everything you need for an “Alien” movie marathon, all to gear up for FX’s “Alien: Earth” which premieres in August. You could also do a “Mamma Mia!” marathon or “Bachelor” binge — we’re not here to judge.

Top Pick: “The Bear” Season 4 (Available on Hulu)

‘Bad Thoughts’ Review: Tom Segura’s Proudly Disgusting, Occasionally Amusing Netflix Comedy
Image
In the first minutes of Netflix’s Bad Thoughts, creator and star Tom Segura explains what it’s like being a comedian. “You know that dumb shit you get sent to Hr for saying?” he smirks. “I get paid for that.”

He’s elucidating the broad theme of the episode — “jobs” — but really, he could be explaining his series as a whole. And his promise (or threat) is not an idle one. Bad Thoughts’ entire raison d’être is pushing past the boundaries of good taste, in hopes of provoking delighted horror or disgust. How successful you think Segura is at it, and whether you think it’s a worthy goal to begin with, is a matter of personal sensibility. I will say this: You can’t accuse the guy of not committing to a bit.

In interviews, Segura has compared Bad Thoughts to Twilight Zone or a “dark, comedic version of Black Mirror.

Jay Duplass on Directing ‘The Baltimorons’ Without Brother Mark, Their ‘Conscious Uncoupling’ and the Film’s Pandemic Origins
Image
Jay Duplass couldn’t help himself.

The 52-year-old New Orleans native — best known for his creative collaborations with his younger brother Mark and acting roles in Amazon’s “Transparent” and FX’s “Dying for Sex” — had been working on a script for a film with a bigger budget and scope than the low-budget comedies that put his and his sibling’s names on the map. Then he connected with Michael Strassner, an actor-comedian he discovered via his comic Instagram videos, and the creative dominoes fell. In short order, he found himself braving the December cold in Maryland directing “The Baltimorons,” about a six-months-sober improv comedian (Strassner), who cracks a tooth on Christmas Eve and spontaneously embarks on a night of adventure and unexpected romance with his dentist (Liz Larsen).

“I felt tremendous untapped potential energy,” Duplass told the audience at the Fremont Theater on Sunday, where he was honored with...

San Luis Obispo Film Festival to Honor Jay Duplass, Screen Over 100 Films (Exclusive)
Image
Multi-hyphenate filmmaker Jay Duplass has been named as the recipient of this year’s Spotlight Award at the 31st Annual San Luis Obispo International Film Festival (Sloiff.) Duplass will attend the event with a screening of his new film, “The Baltimorons,” followed by a Q&A on Sunday, April 27. The festival runs this year from April 24-29 in San Luis Obispo, the coastal community located midway between Los Angeles and San Francisco.

Duplass is well-known on the independent film circuit for his work and his collaborations with brother Mark Duplass on such films as “The Puffy Chair” and “Cyrus” and for creating such TV shows as “Togetherness” and “Room 104.” In recent years, Duplass has also carved out an impressive acting career with roles on the Emmy-award winning series “Transparent” and “Industry” and films like “Outside In” and “Beatriz at Dinner.”

SXSW Review: Jay Duplass’ The Baltimorons is a Sincere Throwback to Mumblecore’s Heyday
Image
A return to form for Jay Duplass, who’s also making his solo-directing debut, The Baltimorons is a charming throwback to the low-budget indies he directed with his brother Mark. Written and starring burly stand-up comedian Michael Strassner, the Baltimore-set film follows the mis-adventures of an unlikely romantic duo: Strassner’s Cliff, a stand-up comedian six months sober, and his older workaholic dentist Didi (Liz Larsen). Cliff is bantering with his fiancée Brittany (Olivia Luccardi) when he falls and chips a tooth, sending him frantically searching for a dentist who will take him on Christmas Eve. Didi is the only one who takes his call, agreeing to meet him in her empty office for surgery.

Cliff is a silly teddy bear who aims to please even when he frequently oversteps the line into offending. He’s generously curious, often living life to acquire new material for stand-up. Like the personal...

General Hospital Spoilers: The Price Josslyn Has To Pay For Killing Cyrus, Is It Worth It?

‘General Hospital’ Spoilers: Major Secrets That Need To Come Out During February Sweeps
Image
‘General Hospital’ (Gh) spoilers suggest a few major secrets that must come out during February sweeps. Gh has been moving full steam ever since the new team of head writers, Elizabeth Korte, Chris Van Etten, and breakdown writer Cathy LePard, took over.

‘General Hospital’ Spoilers: Cyrus Needs To Get Busted

There are three significant secrets currently affecting Port Charles residents right now. The most glaringly obvious one is the digitalis killer Cyrus Renault (Jeff Kober) and his angel-of-death-schtick.

So far, we’ve lost two central characters and almost a third. Twenty-year vet Sam McCall (Kelly Monaco) was the first one killed off the soap.

We still don’t know why Cyrus decided to murder Sam after she selflessly saved his niece, Lulu Spencer’s (Alexa Havins) life. He gave Sam a fatal dose of the heart drug digitalis, which caused cardiac arrest and, inevitably, death.

Was 'The Creep Tapes' a Bad Idea?
Image
With an affinity for improv and offbeat characters, Jay and Mark Duplass have embraced the indie movie and TV landscape since the founding of their independent production company, Duplass Brothers Productions, in 1996. Often associated with the low-budget mumblecore movement of the early-2000s, offering movies like The Puffy Chair and Cyrus, the filmmaking duo has certainly experimented with genres over the past three decades. Notably, Mark Duplass — who's in front of the camera as often as he is behind it — creeped his way into the hearts of horror aficionados back in 2014 with Netflix's hit found footage film Creep.

Directed by Patrick Brice and produced by Duplass Brothers Productions and Blumhouse Productions, Creep follows a freelance videographer, Aaron — played by Brice himself — who answers a bizarre online ad from a man named Josef, played by Mark Duplass. Claiming to have terminal cancer, Josef wishes to make a documentary film for his unborn child.

Emma (Braedyn Bruner) tells Felicia (Kristina Wagner), “I make my own choices. And that’s never gonna change.” Sounds like a teenager is up to some bratty behavior. Who knew that kindly Emma would turn into a monster? Anna’s really got her hands full between work and now a raging teen.

Whatever Happened To The Cast Of The League?
Image
Created by Jeff & Jackie Schaffer, one of FX's most popular comedy series was "The League," which ran for seven seasons from 2009 to 2015. The raucous sitcom follows a group of friends in Chicago who run a highly competitive fantasy football league every year, creating their own challenges, rewards, and penalties. Throughout the show's run, the group is joined by several memorable guest stars and recurring characters, including the occasional real-life football player getting in on the fun.

Led by a solid ensemble cast of talented comedians, "The League" introduced beloved, crass characters framed against the backdrop of fantasy sports. Since the show's ending in 2015, many of the cast members have gone on to continue their film and television careers, while others haven't reached the same level of success.

General Hospital Comings & Goings: Cyrus Renault Returns!
Image
General Hospital comings and goings see Cyrus Renault on the scene again for some family drama. Also, a Gh vet resurfaces this week and a fan-fave is set to return soon. Take a look at the latest casting updates for the ABC soap opera.

General Hospital Comings & Goings: Cyrus Renault Is Back!

Gh comings and goings put Cyrus Renault back on the canvas recently and hopefully, it’s more than a one-time appearance. Recently, he resurfaced when his half-sister, Laura Spencer Collins, was visiting her, comatose daughter, Lulu Spencer, at the long-term care facility.

Gh | ABC

Laura hadn’t spoken to Cyrus in months and was appalled to see him at Lulu’s bedside. Apparently, he’s been visiting her for quite some time and Laura was furious that he didn’t tell her. Cyrus has been off-screen for months now. But hopefully, this’ll be the beginning of another long stint for him.

New Audio Appears To Show Billy Ray Cyrus Berating Ex-Wife Firerose
Image
Shocking audio recordings have emerged that provide viable evidence to support the claims made by Billy Ray Cyrus’s ex-wife, Firerose, who alleged Cyrus subjected her to “extreme verbal, emotional and psychological abuse” over the course of their seven-month marriage.

In the audio, Cyrus, 62, unleashes a toxic rant filled with expletives, mockery and torments toward Firerose, 35. The confrontation, which appears to have been sparked by his fury that he was made late for a show, showcases a relentless and brutal attack as he repeatedly calls Firerose a “selfish f—ing b—-” and a “dumb a–.”

As she begs him to “please stop shouting,” he tells her, “This would not be happening if you had just shut your f—ing mouth. Look what a f—ing mess you’ve made… I don’t think you’re real smart, I’ve changed my mind on that s—. What I think you...

Though Miley Cyrus and her father, Billy Ray Cyrus, have both paved famous music careers, their individual relationships to fame and success are “wildly different”, and the reason why makes Miley “emotional.”

In the “Jaded” singer’s new Hulu special “Endless Summer Vacation: Continued (Backyard Sessions)”, she explained how their different upbringings reflect how they each view and measure success.

Biosphere Review: A Quirky Buddy Film with a Sci-Fi Twist
Image
Once in a while a film comes along that simply grabs hold of you and doesn’t let go. Biosphere is one of those films. Written by the ever creative Mark Duplass and Mel Eslyn, who also directs, Biosphere is part buddy film, part dystopian dramedy, and an all-encompassing experience that waxes philosophical as much as it amuses.

The story finds Billy (Duplass) and Ray (Sterling K. Brown) as the last two men on Earth. Lifelong friends, they’ve braved holding political office together and, apparently, the apocalypse. Their survival lies mostly in Ray’s hands. He’s the brilliant scientist who designed the domed structure they have existed in for some time. There’s a sustainable vegetation system, a fishpond, timed lighting, and plenty of debate about Super Mario Bros. What two pals to chat about, after all.

On that note, things take a curious turn with the appearance...

‘God Is a Bullet’ Review: Nick Cassavetes Delivers a Blood-Soaked Highway to Hell
Image
Adapted from the author’s 1999 debut novel, “God Is A Bullet” is the first screen translation of a work by one Boston Teran, a prolific but pseudononymous scribe of popular page-turners. Those tomes have been well-received by thriller fans, though others have speculated they might be a genre put-on penned by possibly more than one well-known literary figure. Nick Cassavetes’ slick adaptation certainly maintains the book’s mix of lurid incident and pontificating pretentiousness — albeit without the kind of intensity that might have made this far-fetched story credible, or the atmospheric style that might’ve pulled it off as a fevered nightmare à la David Lynch instead.

These 156 minutes, with cop Nicolaj Coster-Waldau and escaped captive Maika Monroe pursuing the cult of devil-worshipping scumbags who’ve kidnapped his daughter, are not exactly dull. But they are rather ludicrous, without being much fun. It’s hard not to imagine this overlong,...

‘The Long Long Night’: Simplicity & Complexity Somehow Propel The Unique Duplass Bros. Show [Tribeca]
Image
Some names, once viewed on a marquee or YouTube ad, tend to draw a specific audience ranging from real fans to, “Oh yes, that guy.“ I could put the Duplass brothers, Mark and Jay, into both of these categories, with a lengthy filmography largely encompassing projects their company Duplass Brothers Productions has spearheaded, such as 2010’s “Cyrus” and “Jeff, Who Lives at Home”; Mark, in particular, has emerged as the higher profile of the two, consistently delivering as an actor in diverse roles ranging from horror (“Creep”) to TV comedy (“The League”) offbeat humor and more. “The Long Long Night,” another Mark Duplass vehicle, would likely fall into the latter category; originating from show creator/co-star Barret O’Brien, the six-episode series depicts the falling out between two former best friends, Pete (Duplass) and Carroll (O’Brien) and the night that kicked it off, told through black and white footage of...

'The Drop' - Hulu’s Latest Comedy is Worth a Watch
Image
Photo: 'The Drop'

There have been some shows that cover melodramatic stories such as ‘‘The Slap,’ which has been famous for portraying a family drama that shows from one small scene where a male adult slaps a couple’s misbehaving child which causes family tension and other harbored negative secrets. The hit comedic show ‘Pen15’ has this absurd humor of showing two female actresses who are in their thirties that play seventh-grade middle-schoolers and experience their struggles of fitting in as teenagers in the 2000s. In this new full-length comedic film ‘The Drop,’ the ‘Pen15’ star Anna Konkle and Jermaine Fowler (who appear in Coming 2 America and Sorry to Bother You) both play a young adult couple who attend a wedding on a tropical island. One of them holds a newborn baby and accidentally drops it. The baby seems perfectly unharmed, but the witnesses, which are their friends,...

Billy Ray Cyrus Confirms Engagement To ‘Best Friend’ And ‘Soulmate’ Firerose, Explains How They Met On ‘Hannah Montana’
Image
Billy Ray Cyrus has confirmed his engagement to Australian singer, Firerose.

The country music star, 61, told People that he asked his “New Day” song collaborator to marry him back in August. The 34-year-old singer, who legally identifies as Firerose — a name given to her by her grandmother as a child in Australia — explained that the proposal wasn’t formal; there was no bended knee, nor a ring.

“Billy looked at me and said, ‘Do you, do you wanna marry me?’ And I was just like, ‘Of course I do. I love you,'” she told the magazine. Firerose, whom Cyrus says is “the real deal,” later picked out a diamond and designed her own ring. “He said, ‘I love you. I wanna make this official. I wanna be with you forever.'”

Cyrus’ engagement to Firerose came months after a period of “bad,” following his April divorce from ex-wife, Tish,...

The Pain Hustlers: Catherine O’Hara, Andy Garcia, Jay Duplass, and more added to David Yate’s Netflix film
Image
Everyone’s involved in a hustle nowadays. The economy is in the trash, the job market is a joke, and making ends meets is a constant struggle for many. If you’re comfortable with where you’re at, consider yourself fortunate. Not everyone has that luxury, and in David Yate’s The Pain Hustlers, one woman is about to discover what it’s like to play dirty for those pulling the wool over the eyes of the public.

Catherine O’Hara, Andy Garcia, and Jay Duplass are joining Chris Evans and Emily Blunt in Yate’s upcoming film, debuting on Netflix. Brian d’Arcy James and Chloe Coleman also star.

A crime drama that warps perceptions of the American Dream, the official logline for The Pain Hustlers says the film follows an unemployed “blue-collar woman struggling to raise her daughter [who] takes a job at a failing pharmaceutical start-up, only to get involved in a dangerous racketeering scheme.
