Legendary Horror Filmmaker George A. Romero Has Died at Age 77
Oh no, we've lost a real legend. American filmmaker George A. Romero has died at age 77, as confirmed by La Times. Romero is best known as the originator of the modern zombie movie, as the director of the original B&W zombie feature film Night of the Living Dead from 1968, as well as numerous other zombie sequels and films and series in the last 50 years. Romero died in his sleep at his home in Los Angeles with his family after a battle with lung cancer. The last film he directed was the 2009 zombie flick Survival of the Dead, and he was also involved in producing Road of the Dead and the Deadtime Stories series. Sad news. Romero is undoubtedly a filmmaking legend, having established himself as a prominent figure in the horror world for nearly five decades. His influence on the genre can be seen in so many different films over the years,...

Les contes de la crypte (1989)
Thirteen Horror Anthologies You Might Have Missed
Les contes de la crypte (1989)
The “omnibus” horror film – a feature length collection of cinematic horror stories – is one of the most beloved and respected horror movie genres for many reasons; but most importantly, horror is often very effective in concentrated doses (just check out our excellent short film collection for some great examples), especially with a storyline that's designed to set up one good shock or twist, saving the writer the effort of milking more scares out of a single tale. The field is overflowing with some landmark films, including the timeless 1945 classic Dead of Night (still creepy and funny after all these years); Roger Corman's Poe collection Tales of Terror; a ton of cool flicks like From Beyond the Grave from UK studio Amicus; EC Comics-inspired films like the original Tales from the Crypt (actually another Amicus film) and George Romero's Creepshow; made-for-tv faves like Trilogy of Terror; and stylish international...

Lost Soul (2009)
Demonic Powers Unleashed in 'Lost Souls'
Lost Soul (2009)
Lost Soul is the first film completed by Pathfinder Productions and readied for film markets. This is a psychological thriller that mixes the occult, a damaged individual and a couple just trying to get by. Dark and light collide in this tale of terror, which stars Nick Mancuso (Deadtime Stories 2) and Dave Vescio (Virus X). Vescio, a theatrically trained actor, plays Donald, a shy man with the ability to summon supernatural elements, and prolific actor Mancuso portrays Dr. Charles Crowther, a man investigating some strange goings-on in a local apartment. Will Crowther uncover Vescios demonic powers? "A sexually obsessed loner's (Vescio) practice of the occult shatters a young couples dreams, drawing them into a supernatural nightmare. This is a psychological thriller that exposes the dark underbelly of Hollywood and some of the seedy characters therein." Check out the trailer above and Afm sales art inside.

Deadtime Stories 2 and Shocking Appeal: A Movie Review
Director: Jeff Monahan and Matt Walsh.

Writers: Jeff Monahan.

Narrator: George A. Romero.

George A. Romero again narrates the Deadtime Stories film series in Deadtime Stories 2. Here you have three macabre tales of cannibalism, guilt and, hurrah, zombies. Having not seen the first series, this reviewer will not be able to compare the two anthologies. However, as a stand alone series of tales, Deadtime Stories 2 is a mostly fun ride that is somewhat hampered by a slow start. Overall "The Gorge," "On Sabbath Hill," and "Dust" provide that "Outer Limits" (1995) feel where stories emphasize audience impact rather than characterizations and deep plots.

"The Gorge," takes viewers to a cave exploration trip, which goes terribly wrong. Three climbers are trapped in a pocket of air for an unbelievable twenty-seven days, plus. About the only passage of time that you will see is the reduction of candles to little wicks.

Deadtime Stories 2 and Three Short Tense Tales?
Details are emerging for the release of Deadtime Stories 2. This is the second horror anthology to be narrated by the Master of Horror himself, George A. Romero. This time around, Romero has three tales of the macabre which range from fatal cave climbing to haunting students and even to a disease causing space dust. Each short is about thirty minutes long, with a cumulative runtime of 141 mins'. The titles of the shorts are: "The Gorge," "On Sabbath Hill," and "Dust." Enjoy the trailer for Deadtime Stories 2, as Romero tells viewers to "be very afraid!"

Yet, the original Deadtime Stories (2009) has been called "sub-par" (DVD Talk) and "pointless" (DVD Sleuth). As well, Romero's performance in the first series has been called "disjointed." Also, in the latest trailer for Deadtime Stories 2, Romero seems subdued and more ready to take a nap rather than scare audiences (we still love you George). Finally,...

Details on new Romero-presented Deadtime Stories
Producer Jeff Monahan gave Fango the word on the tales contained within Deadtime Stories Volume 2. The second in the series of George A. Romero-presented anthologies recently wrapped up principal photography.

The first in the new trilogy of terror is “Quota,” directed by Matt Walsh on Pennsylvania locations. “Fifty years ago,” Monahan tells us of the storyline, “two lovers were killed up at Lovers Leap. Deke and Judy are going up there tonight—and what they’re going to do isn’t exactly safe sex.” Tim (Evilution) Colceri stars. In “WeT,” helmed by Death Spa’s Michael Fischa, “a lonely man finds a box buried on the beach, and what’s inside it wants to keep him company.” Monahan himself acts in this segment, along with Kristin Slaysman and Death Ship’s Nick Mancuso. Finally, the Monahan-directed “Valley of the Shadow” is about “a woman and a team of scientists...
