In the realm of Gathland, a barmaid named Bri meets Villadius, an Elvan Wizard seeking the truth about her father, and how he killed the Chieftan of Gods.
The Voyagers make port, beginning their journey in the land of Haflins. Their trip on land has an ill start, and soon the party finds themselves facing an ancient terror on the border of the small folk.
While Bri tries to make sense of a recent betrayal, Iriklas and Jenquo invite trouble to the party with their antics and schemes as they try to smuggle the Voyagers into the troubled city of Bellar.
The Voyagers face off against an enemy with the aid of a former Magnir. Just when the path for answers seems at an end, Bri finds herself at odds with the Magnirs' and Sorseers' plots.
Bri and Myrtle journey across Wynhold in search of a legendary Dragon, Nurang the Black. In Bellar, Villadius copes with his failure, and settles with the remaining Voyagers.
Iriklas and Jenquo face the consequences of parting from the Voyagers, while Nurang teaches Bri and Myrtle why dragons do not suffer the whims of mortals.
Bri and Myrtle are trapped between an incapacitated Dragon and Master Sorseer. Meanwhile, Iriklas, Jenquo, and Taruk encounter a band of thieves as merry as they are deadly.
Bri, Myrtle, and Ultovin are hunted at sea, as they face the wrath of the dragon. In the Bandit Wood, Iriklas, Taruk, and Jenquo are among thieves. As they fall under siege, they discover there is far more to them.
Led by Taruk, the three companions head to Workingar-home of the Orcs-where Bri and Myrtle are taken by captive by an Orc Captain with a history, a short temper, and a big hammer.
Adrift from their true responsibility, Tarúk and Bri find counsel in their companions, including new ones. And while Myrtle seeks to uncover a secret, another secret finds Tarúk first.
The Voyagers are broken. With heavy hearts, Iriklas and Jenquo trudge forth to find what remains while Bri falls on a dark path, and in doing so discovers something ancient and possibly evil.
Taruk is imprisoned with hundreds of others, far from all aid. In another cage far away, Bri sits as a captive of Sir Brand, preparing to make her move.
