Although I had watched episodes of the TV series, I had been completely unaware of this movie release. Memory is sometimes a distorted lens, with my remembrance of the special effects being the pinnacle of this truth. Younger generations would likely not be able to wince through these scenes, but we who were there can give the CGI a nod like we would for a Nintendo 64.
On the bright side, I hadn't recalled the acting being this good! My favourites to watch were Queen Maeve (Charlotte Bradley), Princess Deirdra (Lisa Dwan), and Prince Ivar (Justin Pierre). I can imagine with the budget and technology, the movie was a 'tough sell', but I believed these performers really put on the mantle of their characters.
Story was adventure quest-style, classic fantasy at the core, but several events were entertaining to watch. Despite that positive remark, there was also a fair share of repetition after the completion of the first quest. More villain variation and innovative resolutions could have helped but I'm sure I was not the target demographic, to be fair.
Why isn't this and the show on Blu-Ray yet?! There's money to be made selling this to adult-children such as myself. Maybe re-release the action figures with decent detail like McFarlane. I digress, in summary great movie if you like old Godzilla-type stuff.
