Avis à la une
I've had HBO Max for a few months know and didn't even realize this show was on here! As soon as I noticed it, I started watching immediately. I have always been a big fan of Selena. She's an amazing human and I was super excited to watch this! I am already on Season 3 after finding this show 2 days ago! I love how real and vulnerable Selena is with her cooking skills and she's doing an incredible job! The chefs that have been featured are amazing as well! I also love the support of her Nana and Papa and friends. The only thing I would say is to be more mindful of small things that happen on the show, that could leave the episode unfulfilled. I.e. Part of a meal already being completely eaten by others before the final product can be tasted completely. Or even the little jabs towards Selena when she is struggling and clearly is trying her best /: I feel for her anxiety but I know she's doing so well all together!! Overall, I hope there are many more seasons to come because definitely will watch every season over and over again (: thank you Selena & HBO Max!
I've only watched the first episode and this was incredibly relaxing to watch. It's very enjoyable.
For starters, I'm no shill or diehard Selena Gomez fan. She's a decent actress as evinced by her performances in Spring Breakers (the only actor who didn't dial it in for that one) and Woody Allen's A Rainy Day in New York. As for the singing, well, even she apologizes for that. When done right, cooking, too, is a fine artform. I found this show immediately relatable, playful, funny, and highly instructional. The chefs really boil it down to the basics (except for that splenetic French chef that yelled a lot) and share wonderful, fairly easy to follow recipes. Selena comes across as genuine and unspoiled by her success. She's as cute as a squirrel's nut and seems so down to earth. This is refreshing, as so many of her fellow, former Disney mouseketeers appear damaged beyond repair. Her humility is illustrated in each episode as her errors are never edited out and she has that rare, laudable ability to laugh at herself. Plus she donates $10k per episode to the guest chef's charity of choice. It's also cool that she includes her pets, grandparents and friends (both celebrities and civilians) in the episodes. I could go without the obnoxious one called Raquel who resembles a sleestak attached to a smart phone though. Also, if you close your eyes and listen to Selena speak you'd think she was an 80+ year old, chain-smoking grandma. In any event, Selena should be proud of this and her nice blue knives. I gave it a 10 because that's what she is. Cool fact: the series is filmed inside her own home which once belonged to the late, great Tom Petty!
I have enjoyed this show very much. Selena is real and not afraid to show she doesn't know much about cooking. I enjoy her Papa on the show and how quick he is to help her out. However there is 1 person her friend Raquelle who is annoying and very unneeded on the show. She comes off fake and cringey.
I didn't have high hopes for this and in fact I thought it would be mostly good for a laugh but was I wrong!
Yes there's humor with the banter back and forth. But all of that aside there are some amazing dishes that are made and I have actually made some myself.
This is such a great idea especially during the pandemic. I hope the show stays on even when life gets back to normal.
The only complaint I have about the show is her friend Raquelle. How in the world can someone be face to face with these amazing chefs and be more concerned about what's on her phone? Put the damn thing down and at least act interested!
Gotta get back to my next episode!
