A slew of new faces has been added to the cast of Rose McGowan's next project, "Napa." Well, they're familiar faces, but faces nonetheless!
Variety reports that Sean "Samwise Gamgee" Astin will be joining Taryn Manning, Kevin Pollak and Johnathon Schaech in the indie thriller. Manning, who first broke through in "8 Mile," recently starred in "The Perfect Age of Rock 'n' Roll"; Schaech previously shared the screen with McGowan in Gregg Araki's hyper-violent and sexy '95 film "The Doom Generation."
The film is based on writer and professor Hans Ostrom's novel "Three to Get Ready," a title that will unfortunately get the Stray Cats stuck in your head for days. Ostrom, who's a professor at the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, Washington, and first-time director Michael Kerr worked together on adapting the novel. The two met in a screenwriting workshop in the '90s.

The Perfect Age of Rock 'n' Roll — the title refers to the so-called 27 Club of musicians — arrives with eerie timing, so soon after the death of Amy Winehouse at age 27. But that's not to say it's resonant or believable. With drugs, sex and betrayal, the road-trip drama — essentially the story of a superstar and the hometown bandmate he left behind — gathers up every rock-saga cliche, and throws in Route 66 for good measure.
Bracketed by scenes of a magazine interview with Spyder (Kevin Zegers), a hair-band legend felled by cocaine and guilt, this sub par debut from Scott unfolds in typical movie flashback. It’s 1991, and after releasing the best selling debut album of all time, Spyder’s second album has tanked. This requires a return to Long Island and the songwriting talents of his childhood friend Eric (Jason Ritter), the real composer of the songs on the debut and...

For moviegoers, two topics that seem to never lose their magnetism are fraught relationships between two men as close as brothers and rock 'n' roll. Love and betrayal between the best of friends is high-stakes emotional drama that satisfies human fascination, and rock 'n' roll offers just the right mix of glamour, sex, and danger to grab audiences in concert halls and movie theaters. Director Scott Rosenbaum's debut feature, "The Perfect Age of Rock 'n' Roll," combines these potent threads into a richly entertaining and multidimensional film."It's something I've known I wanted to do my entire life," Rosenbaum says about the film he wrote, directed, and produced—a project he started nearly 10 years ago. A writer and journalism major in college, Rosenbaum had made films at home and in school as much as he could. But after graduating, "I went for the respectable day job and thought that I would.

Though boasting a pretty timely release date just a few weeks after the death of Amy Winehouse (the "perfect age" of the title refers to 27, as in the 27 Club of Jimi Hendrix, Kurt Cobain, etc.), this film is a piece of sh*t.

You may have first seen Taryn Manning when she played Britney's Bff in the coming-of-age dramedy "Crossroads," but you probably know her best for the edgier roles that came later (and seemed to suit her better) in films like "Hustle & Flow" and "8 Mile."
Over the last decade, Manning has proven her staying power, transitioning from teen queen to leading lady with ease. These days she's prepping for the release of her film "The Perfect Age of Rock 'n' Roll," in which she plays a determined, if somewhat misguided, manager trying to save the career of a rock star (played by a guyliner-wearing Kevin Zegers) who's on the brink of losing it all. And trust us, it's not going to be easy to keep this ship from sinking.
We got the lowdown on what draws Manning toward music-centered stories, how she navigated from "It" girl to thespian and why every actor...

Scott Rosenbaum's "The Perfect Age of Rock 'n' Roll" reminds me of "Hedwig and the Angry Inch" for a couple reasons. The plots of both films involve a rock star who screwed over a former collaborator to gain fame with stolen songs. Appropriately, the new film seems to be biting off other music movies, as well, particularly "Velvet Goldmine" and "Almost Famous." But the biggest thing it shares with "Hedwig" over others is the failure to convince us of its fictional artist's plausibility for enormous success. The quality of music necessary for such iconic popularity among both critics and mainstream…...

Summer is the perfect time for a road trip, but not all of us have access to a camper and a cadre of eccentric friends who are also dying to pay a visit to Graceland and the world's largest ball of twine. So why not take a trip down the historic Route 66 at the movies, with The Perfect Age of Rock 'n' Roll, an indie opening August 5 both in select theaters and on-demand. Starring Kevin Zegers and Jason Ritter as two childhood friends reuniting their band and healing old wounds years after they found success with their band, the movie is crammed full of music, with both live performances from blues legends like Pinetop Perkins and Sugar Blue and a soundtrack featuring Nirvana, Bob Dylan, Jeff Buckley, Muddy Waters and many more. Neil Young also plays a key role on the soundtrack, as you can see in the exclusive...

Somehow this movie has completely slipped past my radar, which is rather bizarre. The Perfect Age Of Rock 'N' Roll has an interesting and promising cast, a killer soundtrack, and an solid, if not terribly unique premise (this is taken from a PR flak's email, so forgive the tone):
World famous rock star Spyder (Kevin Zegers) has achieved fame and fortune with a smash hit debut album. This blinding success however, is built on the Faustian pact that capitalized on the genius of his long lost childhood best friend and band mate, Eric Genson (Jason Ritter). Now Spyder retreats to his small hometown after his sophomore effort flops. Reconnecting with Eric after a seven year estrangement, the two recall their youthful ambitions and reexamine the choices they've made. Accompanied by the band's ambitious, fiery manager (Taryn Manning), the legendary music impresario August West (Peter Fonda) and a raucous crew of musicians,...
