Okay..

I have mixed feelings about this. I've ready the books, and I think this is another movie by Passionflix that your average person would be missing things if they hadn't.

I was really.. put off by how the movie flew right into action with no real information on the characters. The acting by Anna and Liam was okay, but again, because they just flew into "like" with each other and we didn't get to see any general interaction between them until after they had hooked up, it felt forced. But as relaxed/natural as later on in the movie.

I also felt this way about the introduction to Tink. Either the acting is terrible there, (as it was with a lot of the secondary characters) or too forced in the beginning. To rehearsed or like I was listening to him read off a promter.

There are things I appreciate about Passionflix in that they never sway from the heart of the book. But also, sometimes I feel like word for word script doesn't always translate well to film. They need to add to help the book transition well.

I'm not good with words, I just know that so much Iike the beginning of a book is about catching the readers attention and wanting them to read more. A movie is about the same, but also not being confusing or ridiculous to the point where the watcher wants to turn it off. This was close for me on a couple of occasions.

Its not that bad

I dont think this movie it has bad has the reviews, yes it has problems but i think it was about money, this fantasy movies need money to make cool effects and even do i think Tink was really well made other effects not so much , the actors are good, some lines are not the best, the make up could have been better, the actress was not rocking the red hair, the tattoos looked cheap , but i think if this movie had more money they could have fix all of it, i do hope they make the rest of the series and explained more about this world, it was interesting.

I get what they tried.

Like I appreciate it stayed true to the books, and stuff but like. If you didn't read the books you'd be lost on what is going on in many scenes. And like some scenes from the book were great but rushed in the film that it was like, you should've just cut that scene out and spent more time on more important scenes. Also. The acting. I'm sorry. I wanted to love it. But it was so brutal and cheesy. And I've seen some of these actors in other things before so like nothing against the actors. But. I really tried.... I did sort of like it.... I liked Ivy and Ren.

Campy

I LOVED the books, and I'm not the type where the movie/tv show has to be the same as the book. That being said, the casting right off the bat threw me, but I decided to watch it before letting that sway my opinion. I got maybe two scenes into the first episode before I had to pause it, collect my thoughts, and force myself to finish watching.

The acting makes me think that these people didn't really understand the characters. I didn't get 'cheese' when I read the book, but boy oh boy am I lactose intolerant now.

I'll finish the show more out of curiosity than enjoyment.

God forbid I mention critiques to the zealots...bring on the pitchforks...so I'll leave my review here.

how bad can it really be?

So bad it was laughable. The acting is wooden. The writing is some of the worst I have ever seen. The story is old news. Really a waste of time in every sense.

Decent. Let's hope there's another

Having not read the books I can't really comment on the story or if it brought the characters to life. Movies don't always fulfil our expectations when reading a book. Although as I didn't have any prior context to this movie, It was very enjoyable. Yes there were some parts that felt a bit scripted here and there but all in all I think the main actors did their best to portray their characters. Some scenes of course looked quite fake and could have been improved but that is mostly down to funding. Had there been more money invested all the fantasy effects and fighting scenes could have been alot better. Found the fighting scenes a bit too easy and not much of a challenge. Having watched lots of fantasy and sci fi and action movies I know it could have been done alot better had there been more funding. In terms of storyline pretty predictable but I don't mind, the ending did throw me off a little as I didn't expect that to happen. Thoroughly enjoyed the movie and I cannot wait for the next one. Hope there's a next one with lots more action and more answers I just don't like cliffhangers...

Poor acting... poor sets... and down right silly. I would leave it at that... but it would be tagged as too short.

Loved It!

I LOVED these books and was very excited to see the movie adaptation of book 1. I understand that for book lovers, like me, it is hard to compare the movie adaptation to the book because we have already created our own version of how the movie "should" be like. I read the negative reviews and disagree 100% with them.

With that being said, I think the movie was very well made and the main concepts of the book were established. Again, all of the details of any book cannot be condensed into a 2 hour movie, but all the necessary details were portrayed in this film. I think the actors did a great job and had great chemistry. I cannot wait to see the second part!!!

I am a big fan of Jennifer L. Armentrout and would like to see her other books made into movies too!

True to the book

The casting was excellent, the CGI was much better than I expected, and the acting was ... okay. It seemed like they rushed the lines a little.

I just finished reading the book. This movie is a faithful adaptation which I really appreciate. Same dialogue and even the same food (biscuits and gravy). If you liked the book this is worth the watch.

really good for a budget production

I didn't read the books beforehand, so for me the casting felt absolutely perfect! I love to see small-budget movies just because they introduce fresh faces, and this one didn't disappoint at all!

That being said, I understand this was the director's first feature directorial debut, so many things need polishing if she plans to direct the future installments too. The transition and backstory of the main characters could've been built better, the attraction felt rushed and not spontaneous. The action-scenes need to feel more realistic. However, kudos to the director for so many critical things like action and CGI in her first feature project.

Acting-wise, I believe Liam is better than Anna. Nonetheless, for acting in a movie with lots of action sequences, they simply needed more rehearsal and clarity of their respective characters.

Lastly, this is a passionflix production, so director, could you please give us more of that amazing chemistry? I felt I couldn't get enough of these two!!

Overall, not the best passionflix production, but definitely one of the good ones :)

Potential

Let's start of with THE ACTING, definitely some good moments where if you were to show clips to someone, they'd think none of it. However, definitely some cringe bad moments which looked like the actors themselves felt awkward acting out 😂 Female actor had the best moments because of the emotions she was able to portray; when she was talking about her past.

Now although the movie is cringe, the movie is not all bad but I actually rlly like the storyline. I do wish the scenes of the two main characters telling their back story was shown properly but I understand the budget is not high for this film but the storyline itself is there so yeah I do believe the trilogy had potential to do well if made again with a bigger budget and perhaps a lesser cringe take at it as to keeping the romantic corny words to a minimum and show emotions in a more natural way.

The first fantasy, but not my favorite of the Passionflix offerings.

I would like to preface my review by saying I have not read the Jennifer L. Armentrout Wicked Trilogy that this film is based upon. Therefore I did not come in to watching it with any expectations. I will say from personal experience that I have come to expect certain things from Passionflix films, like that they stay very true to the novels and deliver very steamy content. Passionflix has inspired me to read several series...and a few stand alone novels. I did notice that this film was not directed by Tosca Musk, but rather by a Taryn O'Neill...which may account for some different directorial choices.

Before I dive in to my review, I want to list my Passionflix favorites and the one/two Passionflix misses: first I absolutely loved season one of Driven, Casey Deidrick is smokin' hot and makes this series...but the overall story deals with some darker topics like abuse, loss and the foster system (This stayed very true to the books...which I found out after, because I was inspired to read the series.), the sex scenes were well done and even though I didn't care for the main actress...I highly recommend this series (at least season one, we will see with the new actor who plays Colton for season two). The second on my highly recommend list is the three films that make up Gabriel's Inferno, which is book one in the series. (Again I was inspired to read this series after seeing Tosca Musk's part one)...I would go so far as to say that the on screen portrayal is even better than the books and I say this without being a fan of either of the actors playing the leading roles. These films smolder. There is probably a tie for me between Dirty Sexy Saint and The Will-loved both, have since bought the books...sex was handle so well with the stories and I thought the productions were really tight. I also enjoyed the casting in both. Then my next tier down is Afterburner/Aftershock...which is the first author that I had read before seeing. I loved most of the cast particularly Caitlin Leahy who played Gianna. Also in this mid-tier category I put The matchmaker's Playbook...great cast not quite as good as the others, but still totally worth seeing(maybe even a couple of times). Now for the two I didn't care for...The Protector and Hollywood Dirt. Don't get me wrong there are some funny scenes...but they lack the chemistry and story power of the other films.

Ok now for Wicked...I said all of that to let you know that I was very excited to see this and was eagerly waiting the next Passionflix release. How did I feel at the end? ...kind of left in the middle.

What I liked: I think the lead roles both Liam Hall who plays Ren and Anna Maiche who plays Ivy are attractive and well suited for their roles. The actress who stole the show for me was Elyse Mirto who plays Merle, she was beautiful and just the right amount of crazy. I loved the New Orleans backdrop for the story.

Now for the things I didn't care for...Conceptually I liked the idea of the brownie Tink...but was a little irritated with the reality, but maybe that was intentional? It did seem rushed or forced maybe even a little juvenile. We did not get very much build up or explanation of this world or it's past. But my biggest criticism was really the sex, which seemed almost like an afterthought...like, oh yeah we have to put this in here, and done!, on to the next scene. I don't know if that was direction or what...but it didn't seem to have the level of respect and care that I have come to expect from a passionflix film. I would venture to say that the level of detail and care shown to sex scenes is what really sets Passionflix apart and without that...this could end up being written off as a B-grade sci-fi film of which there are so many already in existence.

This is the first real Fantasy offering from Passionflix and as such I am willing to suspend judgement for the next film...but if this was a stand alone, I might be tempted to give it a pass.

Lacks Chemistry

Updating and downgrading to say, this one is far better than the second movie they made. It's almost worth telling you to watch the second so you can see what I'm saying (the wigs are actually laughably bad.)

Passionflix has a talent for ruining books on film...I'll give them that much. Their screenwriters are awful and rely on the viewer having read the books to know what is going on.

Recently, pin pointed a major problem I have with this movie, it rushes through what is an already mediocre book. Now, that's not to say you shouldn't like the book, I don't mean that at all. But, it's not great, I've read far better. "A Court of Thorns and Roses", by Sara J. Maas for example.

Barely 30 minutes into this movie, we are already on chapter 8. I mean, this book isn't great about character development to begin with, but so much is left out of their development in this movie (as I've mentioned, the screenwriters are assuming the viewer read the book, bad bad screenwriters!) ...add bad screenwriting to the list of problems.

This movie may "technically" follow the book as far as what the characters do and say, but it lacks chemistry; and, I mean it lacks chemistry between ALL of the actors/characters. There's no steam, no sizzle...it's flat.

The screenwriters seem to rely on the viewer already having read the book, already knowing who Ivy is and what she does so they just jump right in, not good at all for the viewer.

Tink, was "kind of fun", I mean...they did once again keep to the book with him, but his character was more bearable truthfully in the written form in the book because my mind could change things a bit...bringing him to "life" so-to-speak. But, this movie really made him a bit cartoonish and irritating. It seems to me the writers (or actor) listened to the audiobook and mimicked what was provided there, because he sounds A LOT like what was in the audiobook. The wide-eyed 4-year-old way of behaving just didn't work for me (especially when things progress and you realize he doesn't have to be that way at all.)

Oh, and lets not forget that this early 20-something young woman lives in a very expensive apartment in New Orleans...yeah, how'd that happen? No explanation of anything...as I said, no back story at all. They throw in tidbits here and there, but there is nothing for someone who is not familiar with the book to learn about these characters. It's just horribly FLAT and ironically one-dimensional since technically it's supposed to be multi-dimensional with portals etc.

So much lacking...but this is what you get when low-budget movie producers start telling authors "we will make your book into a movie". You get a low quality movies, with inexpensive actors, bad costuming, and mediocre special effects ...I've seen better on Lifetime, much better.

CRINGE AF

No offense to fans of the book (which is obviously a million times better) but seriously man, this movie is not only a waste of time and internet but also downright sheit! Clinging onto hot characters to draw audience attention isn't a thing anymore man, it just screams lame. The plot could have been an epic fantasy but they just ruined the whole thing in every way possible.

I did not expect to like it

It was exactly like the book , ok the CGI could be better but I liked the scene with Tink and Ren it was funny , the actors could be different more like the characters in the book and more experienced cause they were some scenes that the actors didn't feel it and the scenes lost the point , but it was a good low budget movie.

My favorite PassionFlix adaptation so far!

I'm not a big paranormal fan. But I am a huge Jennifer Armentrout fan and this movie does her WICKED best selling trilogy proud. As usual, PassionFlix sticks to the book and gives us fans what we love. This particular adaptation has some fun moments, sweet, sexy scenes between Ren (Liam Hall) and Ivy (Anna Maiche) laugh out loud scenes with TINK, the Brownie (Andrew P. Rogers) gorgeous soundtrack (by Ben Collier who out does himself again for PassionFlix) and beautiful New Orleans scenery. Taryn O'Neill directs a really great group of actors (I particularly love Kevin Joy as The Prince and can't wait to see him do more in the next adaptation of book #2, TORN). Definitely a well done production and fun movie to watch - I have watched it several times. Bravo PassionFlix. Can't wait for TORN and BRAVE!!!

Just No

The reason I give it 6/10 is because it seems better than all of the other books Passionflix has adapted.

I never read the books (but have others by the autor) and I still got noting. I didn't see a plot. But I saw the bad acting and the even worse dialogs and scenes. Like ...who planned them?

Everything was badly made. Such a waste of almost 2 hours.

This is a joke...

Honestly, I could not make it past 10 minutes! Seems more like a super cringey fake fantasy tv series from the 90s than a movie made in 2021. Not sure what direction they were going, but I'm so confused.

Epic

I almost never give ratings. Ladies I know we're usually busy reading, cooking, cleaning, caring, working and generally making sure the world keeps running but let's vote this up so we can get more films like books we enjoy.

Considering romance novels are the best selling genre of books it's amazing that you easily can count on your two hands the number of films made to fit squarely in that genre. I'd hoped after Twilight a YA that more films would be made from romance novels beyond the young adult subcategory, but we've yet to see much produced.

Let me start by saying I watch a ton of movies and can be really critical. That being said I thought this movie was well executed. It was an honest take on the genre following all the troupes that cinched the millions invested in it. I loved the acting especially the main characters, though one or two side characters were a little stiff It was never cringe worthy. The writing was on point and the directing and plot development really worked for me.

Please if you're a geeky guy who wants another film about fart jokes or one of those dudes who thinks we need Another war film keep your f*#king rating to yourself. Women who love romance novels need more films like this that don't make a love story into a cookie cutter comedy. Loved it full stars reading the books now because I cannot wait for the sequel.

I weanted to like it

Story: I still have 10 minutes to go with this movie and I have no idea what the plot is.

Acting: A couple of really hot people. The interactions are sophomoric, and the emotional transitions are silly. You want to give them a pass for hotness. Maybe if the first scene they both became mute. --- great still not plot. Is there going to be two more of this train to nowhere?

JLA Is my favorite author but this movie was so bad...

The plot of this movie should have been good because the book is amazing, but the 4 stars I gave was only because of the book. The acting was bad, effects were bad, the characters were nothing like the book... I was disappointed 🙁

just.. no words

I think this is the most cringe movie i have ever seen. I didn't have high hopes when i started watching since the books mostly turn out better than the movies. But come onn, was this a joke? The acting was strange. The lines were said awkwardly. The movie seemed like it just stepped out of wattpad (which normally isn't a bad thing). It was all very predictable, which is a shame 'cus predictability is very important to me. I finished it simply out of curiosity and it took much to keep consentrating and not laughing the entire time.

Further more i have absolutely no hate towards any of the actors. There were many among them that I'd love to see in other movies sometime.
