This is a China made production with low budget. Howeve this turned out normal although some scenes not really realistic. Overall excitement is normal and nothing special.
As compare to Disney Mulan, this is better because that Disney Mulan is disgraced, too many illogical scenes and very badly made. The first Disney is Mulan far better than this second 2020 Disney Mulan. Why Disney with so very big budget had produced sch a lousy film?
Very poor plot, no connection between scenes. Not focused on story but only on fighting
For a low budget film it's actually pretty ok, the fight scenes are good & the acting isn't even that bad! The problem is the editing, it's completely all over the place. Could've of been a lot better if they spent a few quid tidy tidying it up
This is just another case of two movies about the same thing coming out in the same year.
I went into this thinking it was the disney Mulan, looking forward to seeing my fave actress Liu Yifie, along with Jet Li, and Jason Scott Lee. 5 minutes into this movie I realized Mulan is not played by Liu Yifie, and that this was the wrong movie. I should've realized it was the wrong Mulan when the big dumb disney logo wasn't plastered everywhere.
I don't know if this was some studio trying to make a quick buck or what, but this movie isn't really worth your time. Disney is doing some scummy things with their Mulan too, because they're scummy disney, but this movie really has nothing going for it. The story is dumb, and incoherent.
Go with the disney Mulan, or watch the original animated Mulan, you'd be doing yourself a great disservice by not watching the original animated Mulan, trust me.

This is not the Mulan legend (where she substitutes as a soldier for her aged father). It's just a bit of Chinese wuxia with invading hordes vs a female hero called Mulan (supposedly a kind of sequel to the original story). Some loved it, some hated it - maybe it depends if you like Disney-Chinese better than actual Chinese. I prefer the original stuff, but this is far from the best. Also the plot here largely copies that of the 2009 Chinese film: Mulan, Legendary Warrior, which IS a version of the original legend and better than this.
Production values are pretty good, effects not so much. We have panoramas of huge armies deployed but whenever fighting is going on, it feels like there are about a dozen people involved, if that. Fairly competently done though. The actors are OK, Mulan played as a bit too wise, passive and passionless for me, support average and the bad guy is certainly unpleasant. It mostly keeps moving along but has too many static prison scenes and too many where the princess arrives to shout 'Stop!' just in time to put an end to various cruelties. Didn't always make a lot of sense either - why does Khan, knowing he's under threat, have almost no security?
But it was reasonably entertaining, if not as good as the animated Disney Mulan. (I don't know about the live-action version of that. Not in a huge hurry TBH.)
