While at Fairy Camp on the mainland, Tinker Bell is captured by 9-year-old Lizzy Griffiths (Lauren Mote), sending the fairies of Pixie Hollow on a rescue mission.

The Great Fairy Rescue is the third movie in the Disney Fairies franchise, preceded by La fée Clochette (2008) (2008) and Clochette et la Pierre de Lune (2009) (2009) and followed by Clochette et le secret des fées (2012) (2012), Clochette et la Fée Pirate (2014) (2014), and Clochette et la créature légendaire (2014) (2014). The character of Tinker Bell was first introduced in the 1904 play, Peter Pan, or The Boy Who Wouldn't Grow Up and again in the 1911 novel, Wendy and Peter, both by Scottish author, Sir James Barrie. Disney first introduced their version of Tinker Bell to the movie screen in their 1953 animated movie, Les Aventures de Peter Pan (1953). Since then, Tinker Bell has appeared as a leading character in numerous recent videos, illustrated books, and a magazine. The screenplay for Tinker Bell and the Great Fairy Rescue was a collaborative effort by numerous screenwriters, including Joe Ansolabehere, Paul Germain, Bob Hilgenberg, Jeffrey Howard, Rob Muir, and Bradley Raymond.

Yes, Rosetta, Iridessa, Silvermist, Clank, Bobble, Vidia, Terence, Cheese (the mouse), and, of course Tinker Bell are back for The Great Fairy Rescue. Blaze the firefly from the second movie is also back. What's more, they are all voiced by the same actors.

Dr Griffiths (Michael Sheen) captures Vidia and takes her to the museum in London, so Tinker Bell sprinkles Lizzy with fairy dust and the fairies fly with her to London. When Lizzy finds it hard to keep up with her father's car, Tinker Bell "tinkers" with it to slow it down long enough to stop Father from showing Vidia at his presentation. As Father is trying to open the museum doors, Lizzy flies up to him. Flabbergasted that Lizzy can fly, Father is introduced to the other fairies, but he still can't understand. "You don't have to understand," Lizzy tells him, "you just have to believe." Father says that he believes and releases Vidia. The fairies are reunited, and fairy dust allows Father and Lizzy to return home but not till Father makes the hands on Big Ben chime. In the final scene, Tink, Vidia, Lizzy, Father and the fairies share tea on the lawn, and Father compliments Lizzy on her journal.
