Avis à la une
This movie is really intriguing.
On one hand, it has great performances from seasoned actors like Melanie Lynskey that has great comedic timing since Two and an Half Men, and Justin Long and Judy Greer that are always great.
It also has laugh out loud moments and a very classic and endearing plot.
But on the other hand, the production values are at amateur level. The sound, photography and costumes look like taken from a school production.
The editing lacks pace, and the script is not tight enough and it falters several times.
I have no idea how this movie was produced, but it could have been absolutely great given a few more script revisions, more production values and a much better crew behind the camera.
As is, it is a good time. And if after watching the trailer you have dismissed it as a low budget misfire, I recommend you to give it a chance. The end result is much better than anyone could have expected from the promotional material.

This movie was a VERY SILLY and Goofy story, but I love Melanie, Judy, Justin and all the rest of this cast together. They are just Silly Fun together and seems like they probably had a great time working on this movie.
Judy did slip out of her Southern accent quite a bit, but I didn't care, she was adorable. And Melanie was just hilarious as a slacker trying to learn to be a lady. :D Is it Oscar worthy? NO! Is it for young kids? NO! (Has a lot of F-bombs) But is it stupid funny and worth a watch? Yes, if you like silly comedies. And/or are a fan of Melanie, Judy or Justin. :)

They did the best they could with what they had I suppose, but the characters are so flat and 80's stereotyped.
The lead character is so unbelievably unlikable and idiotic. Her profound ignorance, desperation and apathy is painful to watch.
Her love interest, no, not the Dude Bro Douchebag (the answer to "What if a coke spoon were a person?), the Doormat, is pathetically spineless and reminiscent of a bedraggled puppy one finds abandoned in a soggy cardboard box in a Walmart parking lot on a rainy day.
I was looking for a comedy and only found it in the bloopers during the credits.
The whole movie is best summed up by Tanner Wadsworth's last line, which is offensive so I'll not repeat it here.

Rented because Rachel Ray said she laughed a million times....must of been every time they said a four letter word....if you like four letter words to make a movie then this is for you...other than that a waste of time.
When I read what this movie would be about I loved the idea and was almost certain I was going to at least like the movie.
I thought it would be a little like "Ghosts", the series from BBC One from 2019, which I enjoy a lot.
But then I watched it and struggled through it. You know when a certain style of comedy just isn't for you? That's exactly what happened.
I just cringed too many times. Too many moments of second hand embarrassment.
There are different ways of writing a "ne'er-do-well" main character but the way Hannah was written just didn't make me root for her. I also wasn't sold on the character. In my opinion she's unrealistically ignorant about the world and generally not a well written version of a gross, dumb and crass woman.
The acting was really good and I think the actors were well cast for this movie. The premise of a ne'er-do-well who becomes a tour guide in a historic estate and winds up befriending the manor's resident ghost could be a really good comedy movie in my opinion if only it was approached in a different way.
What I liked about it; the acting quality, the premise itself What I disliked about it; the type of humor, the writing.

- AnecdotesDuring the library research scene and a later montage, Hannah ( Melanie Lynskey ) is wearing a dark shirt with a band of stripes across the front in muted colors. It is a licensed Doctor Who (2005) design, inspired by the Thirteenth Doctor, from geek culture fashion company Her Universe.
- GaffesAfter Hannah removes the glass box covering Sherman's hat, the box reappears in reaction shots, and is gone again when the camera goes back to Hannah.
