Longmire lite ?

Actually didnt mind the story, liked it and could be a series BUT stop the horrible back ground music !!!!! Understand the whole hartfield macoy feud fine in the Appalachian hills but again got a headache from the over the top dramatic background music.

"I'm The Law!"

Melodramatic in the second half, only heightened by a score lacking all subtlety. The acting is sketchy at times, but watchable. It's a PG film, definitely aiming to be Family Friendly, so cutting it a bit of slack is in line. I didn't crack the murder case before the Sheriff did, and the outcome did make sense, so it gets an extra point from me. No need to slam it, people. I've seen much, MUCH worse.

Overall it was entertaining

A little cheesy, and probably could have used a budget and script upgrade- BUT overall, it was entertaining, kept me guessing and I didn't lose interest.

Can you say stereotypes?

Absolutely one of the worst waste of money ever. Bad acting, weak plot. The only reason to keep watching is to make fun of it and insert your own jokes.

Nice made for TV style mystery

I was a teenager in the '70s - we've always had the same sort of problem, I guess you'd call it: There's made for TV movies and then there's Hollywood movies. We all understood the difference back then and could rate a film based on what medium it was expected to be viewed and what the budget was, etc. Nowadays you're more likely to see reviews who are completely uninterested in making that differentiation - they'll put low stars on a film because it wasn't a Hollywood blockbuster rather than high stars for the effort and having been entertained, presumably; after all they must have watched the whole film before bothering to review it.

This is reminisce of Longmire in some respects, although it could be said to be reminiscent of many films in the past. I think they did a good job of having the small town mountain community with the big city sheriff coming in and changing their minds about him by being fair, following clues, and solving a crime.

I think where the writers failed a little bit in their effort to throw us off maybe is that they didn't have the romance amount to anything - in other words the sheriff comes to reclaim his family but his wife treats him like an unwanted raccoon. And secondly the perpetrators were basically off screen the whole movie and the audience had no way of even suspecting them.

I did get a little confused because at one point the sheriff was speaking to his daughter and then all the sudden without a change of scene he was speaking to his deputy, and so for about half the film I thought the deputy was his daughter LOL. But otherwise the videography was above average and the scenery was quite beautiful, the characters played their parts fine. The sheriff was kind of nice looking, too, by the way.

So, if your interested in a nice film that has decent values and not a bunch of blood or sex or foul language, then this was a good watch. As far as the music, I was not aware of any over the top or unappreciated music while I was watching. And to me that means it was appropriate. Maybe the two people who complained just need new speakers.

An Okay Film, But a Bit Messy

We have a solid premise here. New Sheriff. Small town. A murder.

But the execution is a bit meh, to be honest.

It just feels a little messy. Some of the editing is way off, a couple of the actors aren't up to the task, the direction could be better, and the script needs to be cleaned up.

Overall the feel is of a low budget TV production, similar to the murder mystery stuff they did in the 90s.

Not terrible, but not great either.

The best actor in it is Graham Greene, obviously. And he turns in a more committed performance as a sorta hillbilly grampa type than one would expect from this kind of thing. Sadly, he's not used enough, probably cause he got the biggest salary.

The scenery is gorgeous. And the music is pretty great too.

Overall, it's a reasonable enough diversion, just don't expect anything brilliant.

Certainly expected more.

I like several of the actors in this. I don't think it is the acting that is so terrible, or even the direction. It is the script, full of stereotypes or cookie-cutter characters. The lines are delivered as well as they can be for something written so terribly. I couldn't wait for this to make it on INSP for free, and now I am glad I did not pay to watch it earlier. Pretty bad, unfortunately.

Shallow investigation flick with little violence and drama.

The rivalry between two old families is on a stalemate, but reignites when the daughter of one family's head is found dead. It is all up to Sheriff Justin Wise and his team to investigate and find answers.

Imagine like you are watching an extended episode of Hawaii 5-0 (2010)... this is how watching this movie felt to me. I believe this feeling comes from a mixed-bag of elements.

The acting is subpar, but it's not the trash subpar you see on cheap horror movies. As aforementioned, it feels more like those cheap investigation series like Les Experts : Miami (2002), full of weird acting, punny jokes and robotic action sequences. This leads to characters' stereotypes, because, again, it's like in those series: you have the comedic-relief character, the cute girl and the tough-as-nails boss... way too surreal.

The soundtrack feels off. It just does not blend well with the scenes. Way too generic and over the top heroic-like.

The plot lacks more suspense. I went into this movie eager for a nice crime thriller, but it's just way too childish. Even New York - Police judiciaire (1990) has a darker tone to its investigation. It had its twists and turns, but by that point, it felt rushed.

This feels like one of those movies you'd end up watching without much thought while your dad scrolls down the TV channels. It definitely is one your parents would allow you to see.

Underrated

I thought this was terrific. You absolutely believed in the feud and indeed, all the characters were totally believable. Well acted, beautiful scenery at times and yet the jarring music, which in my mind brilliantly portrayed the situation and setting, made you feel totally uneasy. This keeps you guessing right until the end. I don't care what other people rated this, I thought it was a little gem.

Actors deserved better

Good actors and not a bad plot, but the dialogue was terrible: like it was lifted from a soap opera. Hard to pay attention to the story when you're constantly distracted by the dumb, cliche-filled lines the characters had to read. Too bad.

[5.1] Thin air law

A poorly made series that they accidentally made as a movie with Native culture, admirable stuff, tons of cliches, more unrealistic situations that you can count, dialogues that were written by schoolboys, an estranged wife Elli that gets hives by just touching Justin, not a single kiss throughout the whole ordeal.

After that, 2020, four years later they realized what a mistake they made, wanted to get it better, but actually made it far worse. Seriously, the series is a little worse by miles, though I enjoyed both mildly.

Unrealistic murder mystery

This film is a standard murder mystery but many of the elements are ridiculous like an Army veteran sheriff who takes a lot of stupid risks because he's "tough." No police officer would do what this guy does. The two odious murder victims seemed to be oblivious to the fact that many people wanted to kill them although it's made obvious to the audience many times. The characters also utter some really stupid lines, as if the script was written by a teenager. This could have been a good movie if the plot didn't have so many holes and the script was written by someone who had a better understanding of police work and rural culture. Good actors, nicely shot on location, but the weak script undermines it all.

Awesome Scenery; Horrible Movie.

One of the worst movies I've seen in a long time. It reminded me of the old spaghetti westerns we'd see at the drive-ins back in the '60's. Bad, overly melodramatic music. Bad acting. And forget about the many things that a law enforcement officer wouldn't do. Just a bad movie all the way around.

Solid Movie

I thought this movie delivered. I thought it had a good storyline, the characters were interesting enough and the mystery of who had committed the murder wasn't predictable. All in all it's better than most of the terrible movies put out by mainstream Hollywoood these days.

Blue is how I was after watching...

More corn in the movie than corn in the liquor once made in those mountains. Scenery was picturesque, but the people were cast in a terrible light. What a shame.

Pitiful is all I can say.

The trailer looked like an awesome movie. They lied. The acting was subpar. Was it just me or was the deputy's hair fake as hell? Almost cartoonish. Only made it about 15 minutes (I think the previous record was 30) before aborting. Highly recommend moving along and finding another.

Give it a miss

Had high hopes for this film. First of all i had no clue what year this was made, as amazon didnt state it for some reason. Had i seen the production year before watching, i wold have given it a wide berth. As it turns out, started off with a bang. Full of potential, and started off very promising. That is until around the 13th minute, when all became clear, who was playing which part etc. Its seems that this is yet another film that will not get funding, unless the casting is set to a specific formula. Sadly all films are going this way, and making any film past approx 2918 effectively unwatchable. I would give no stars if i could.

This was the wrong Blue Ridge movie!

Was looking for an indie movie called Blue Ridge (that stars the guy from Pi) that I had marked to watch in the past but never got around to it. I accidentally clicked on this thing thinking it was the same movie. WRONG! This was like one of those Lifetime or USA network movies that honestly did not need to be made. It's very 90's and beyond boring. I made it about 15 minutes in and regretted it big time and stopped it. ugh!

Well done.

I don't know what some of the other reviewers are talking about. "Low budget"??? Have any of you actually seen a real "low budget" movie? This one does not have the look and feel of "low budget".

Story was good. Acting solid. Visuals and sound were good. The only thing that really bothered me was the incessant score. I hate movies that think there MUST be music playing every second. But that issue aside, it was engaging and enjoyable.

I will say it lacked any hint of "political correctness", which may account for some of the negative reviews.

This would have made a nice pilot for a series. But alas, sans the aforementioned political correctness, it would never even be considered.

Kudos to the cast and crew!

So boring

It's a story of a normal murder and detective story. There's nothing special about this movie, even it's put on TV, I rather not to watch.

Low budget or poor acting

This movie had amazing trailer made. So good they made you think this movie was good. Only about 4 min in to the movie that you can tell they had to of spent all of their budget on the trailer to make you pay the 6.99 to rent it only up find out that they make it seem like they just rolled up to a random town N used those residents for the actors lol.

Pleasantly Surprised

Not really a star studded cast but the cast worked very well together. I was expecting a 4-5 Star after reading reviews. I was pleasantly surprised. This was a really good movie! And not predictable! I didn't see it coming! Highly recommend!

Manly Man!

Ooh, the movie left me wanting more! I would love to see a series come out of this. The sheriff was one that every town needs - no nonsense, smart, and a great protector. Yes, he was very manly, but gentle enough for his daughter and the lady at the end. The story line was very interesting and kept me guessing. I appreciate the lack of vulgar language and the rest of the "modern" throw ins. It was just a good clean, decent old fashion murder mystery.

Also, I totally disagree with those who said that it looked low budget. The filming was beautiful and the locations were familiar to me. I loved seeing my gorgeous blue ridge mountains!
