Josh O’Connor and the Power of Stillness
Image
With a career built on quiet intensity and emotional nuance, Josh O’Connor has emerged as one of the most compelling actors of his generation. This piece reflects on the craft and subtle magnetism behind his greatest performances. Josh O’Connor may be the premier talent of his generation. Chameleonic and self-assured in his work, O’Connor can pull off sincerity and cruelty, vulnerability and confidence, silence and bombasticness from film to film. Assisted by his idiosyncratic look (large ears and keen eyes make an actor do), O’Connor has paved a peculiar path for himself as a screen actor, always working against type and always finding a way for his talent to shine. From prestige TV to indie cinema, O’Connor has never been shy about any character. He adapts each one with confidence, gravitas, and true ownership. ‘Law and Order Toronto: Criminal Intent’ Is Crossing the Border to a New Network TV Home
Image
If three Law & Order series aren't enough for you, The CW has great news. Law & Order Toronto: Criminal Intent is crossing the border and making it's way on to the network's fall schedule. Varietyreports that the CW has acquired the first and second seasons of the Canadian TV series, and they will premiere for the first time on American TV in the fall. With both seasons spanning ten episodes, that gives American Law & Order fans twenty more episodes of crime-solving to enjoy.

The series will join the flagship Law & Order and its long-lived spin-off Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, which will both return with new seasons in the fall, although with serious creative changes for the latter. In addition, Peacock has the Christopher Meloni-led Svu spin-off Law & Order: Organized Crime; its fifth season is currently in progress. The Canadian spin-off, the first Law & Order...

Doctor Who Star Explains Why Martha Jones' Return Was Canceled
Image
Former Doctor Who star Freema Agyeman has revealed why a return for her character Martha Jones was scrapped. Martha was the Tenth Doctor's main companion in Doctor Who's third season, where she traveled the world amassing forces to help free humanity from The Master's enslavement.

Martha was then brought back as part of an all-star team of former Doctor Who companions in season four's two part finale, where Ten (David Tennant) and Donna Noble (Catherine Tate) called all of their friends together to fight off a Dalek invasion of earth. These episodes saw Martha seemingly being recruited by Captain Jack Harkness (John Barrowman) to join his black-ops team, though full-time appearances in the Torchwood spinoff series never materialized.

Jessica Gunning's Baby Reindeer Emmy Win Is A Great Reminder To Watch This Underrated 3-Year-Old Prime Video Comedy
Image
Jessica Gunning's breakout role as Martha Scott in Baby Reindeer has earned her an Emmy, and her win serves as a reminder that the English actress previously starred in a criminally underrated series from 2021. Gunning has been acting (on the screen) since 2007, starring in various TV shows, ranging from a guest appearance in Doctor Who to a recurring role in Law & Order: UK. However, Gunning rose to prominence when she was cast to play Martha in the cast of Baby Reindeer, a 2024 Netflix black comedy-drama miniseries.

Jessica Gunning won the Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie in 2024, beating Dakota Fanning (Ripley), Lily Gladstone (Under the Bridge), Aja Naomi King (Lessons in Chemistry), Diane Lane (Feud: Capote vs. The Swans), Nava Mau (Baby Reindeer), and Kali Reis (True Detective: Night Country).

They Cloned Tyrone Cast & Character Guide
Image
They Cloned Tyrone's mystery drama is driven by its compelling characters, played by a talented roster of actors. On the surface, They Cloned Tyrone is a pulpy science fiction drama that walks audiences through the partly comical and partly harrowing misadventures of three unlikely amateur sleuths, Fontaine, Yo-Yo, and Slick Charles, who unravel a grand conspiracy as they dig deeper into the mysteries of their neighborhood. However, beyond that, They Cloned Tyrone also drops many subtle pop-culture references to real-world conspiracies and political intrigue, adding multiple layers to its overarching storyline.

While They Cloned Tyrone's overarching mysteries, conspiracies, and light satire are enough to keep most viewers hooked throughout its runtime, it also features some well-written characters whose dynamic and personal stakes add emotional depth to its narrative. These characters are convincingly portrayed by a talented cast who effectively balance They Cloned Tyrone's humor with the seriousness of its underlying themes.

‘Law & Order’ Expands to Canada With Toronto Edition of ‘Criminal Intent’
Image
The “Law & Order” universe is heading up north. Citytv has ordered the series “Law & Order Toronto: Criminal Intent,” Rogers Media announced on Monday. The pickup was revealed a day before Rogers Media’s virtual upfront presentation on June 6.

The Toronto iteration hails from Vancouver-based Lark Productions and Cameron Pictures Inc. in association with Citytv. The first season is planned as ten hour-long episodes, set to premiere in Spring 2024. The show is based on the “Law & Order” franchise created by Dick Wolf for Universal Television, which will distribute the series internationally.

But in this case, “Law & Order Toronto: Criminal Intent” also takes its cue from “Law & Order: Criminal Intent,” the third series in Wolf’s “L&o” franchise. Casting Storm In The MCU: 10 Actors Who'd Be Perfect
Image
There are several perfect actors who could take on the role of Storm, who could very well be on her way to the MCU. Aside from an appearance of a Professor X variant in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, there's been no word of the McU's X-Men team, but that could soon change as more mutants are expected to appear throughout Phases 5 and 6. The potential formation of the X-Men could come with the arrival of Storm, as her character is crucial to a significant portion of their stories in Marvel Comics.

So far, she's been played by two different actors on the big screen. Halle Berry debuted as Storm in 2000's X-Men, and the role was later taken on by Alexandra Shipp in X-Men: Apocalypse. In Marvel Comics, Storm - real name Ororo Munroe - is one of the most powerful members of the X-Men, and is often...

New Amsterdam: Where Else You’ve Seen The Cast
Image
Medical dramas are a dime a dozen, but New Amsterdam stands out for a few reasons — mainly, the New Amsterdam cast. While the main story is that of a charming medical director who isn't afraid to adopt unconventional methods to get things done, beneath the surface of every episode is a poignant statement about the state of medical care. Whether it's pointing out how medications could get into the right hands if medical directors from different hospitals would simply communicate with one another, to ways to balance concerns about opioid addictions with patients who legitimately need them, there's a thought-provoking message in every episode.

That, in part, is what makes New Amsterdam resonate so well with fans and why the series is rose the ranks as one of the best medical dramas on television. But the series still wouldn't be such a success without its amazing cast, which includes a...

How Nope Star Daniel Kaluuya Changed John Boyega's Approach To Acting
Image
John Boyega's feature film debut came in 2011 with the release of Joe Cornish's excellent alien invasion film "Attack the Block." Boyega, striking and intense, immediately caught the attention of those who saw Cornish's film, and he would almost immediately go on to appear in numerous British TV and film projects like "Becoming Human" and "Law & Order: UK." In 2015, he appeared before a global audience with the release of "Star Wars: The Force Awakens," one of the biggest box office hits of all time. Despite his immediate high profile, Boyega remained pragmatic, even cynical about his new place in the pop culture firmament. In a 2019 interview with Variety, Boyega was asked about the potential of expanding his "Star Wars" role beyond feature films, to which he responded, "You ain't gonna Disney+ me."

Indeed, Boyega often seems to have an eye on his career trajectory. In a recent interview with The Daily Beast,...

‘Doctor Who’ Review: New Doctor Jodie Whittaker Is Remarkable, but Her First Episode Is Not
Christopher Eccleston, Peter Capaldi, David Tennant, Matt Smith, and Jodie Whittaker in Doctor Who (2005)
[Editor’s Note: The following contains spoilers from “Doctor Who” Season 11, Episode 1, “The Woman Who Fell to Earth.”]

Jodie Whittaker bursts out of the gate with vitality, humor, and grace in her official “Doctor Who” debut, giving an engaging performance that does the Time Lord pedigree proud. After 50 years of men in the role, the Doctor is now a woman, but viewers tuning in for the first time to witness Whittaker’s historic assumption of the Doctor’s mantle will find no barrier to entry. Her regeneration has gone wonky, so she and the audience are figuring everything out together. She’s forgotten everyday words, mixes up common sensations, and doesn’t even know her own name. Nevertheless, she is undeterred in her calling as humanity’s champion. “When people need help, I never refuse,” she declares.

Goofy and curious, commanding and contemplative, Thirteen is already well on her way to demonstrating the complex emotional makeup that is the Doctor.

Law & Order UK – Season 4 DVD Review
Much like its fellow franchise members, Law & Order UK follows a familiar, well-worn path. The police investigate crime, find who they think is their man or woman and then hand the matter over to the Crown Prosecution Service who then prosecute the suspect. Personal lives and soap-operatic elements are left to one side – this is all about the cases.

*****

Law & Order UK seems to have real legs. Here we are with season 4 on DVD, with season 5 due to start airing this week on ITV (for UK viewers). Despite its slavish devotion to the established format and despite the numerous Us iterations (the original series, Special Victims Unit, Criminal Intent, Trial by Jury) it has found an audience and from the evidence of this season, rightly so. This is very much a case of “if it ain’t broke”, with this season relying upon a re-hashing of the stories from episodes of the Us series,...

Law & Order UK Adds Dominic Rowan and Doctor Who Peter Davison
If I’m being completely honest, and I really do try to be, I had no idea there was a Law & Order: UK. And I’m not surprised. The Us remakes a lot of British television, so why can’t the opposite be true as well? The UK show has obtained two new actors to join the cast, Dominic Rowan and Peter Davison.

Rowan will play Jacob Thorne, the new senior prosecutor replacing James Steele (Ben Daniels). Thorne was made for this job and will let nothing stand in his way when prosecuting. Davison plays Henry Sharpe who has just accepted the job of director of the crown prosecution. Sharpe is “a down-to-earth pragmatist” with a past connection to Thorne. The two actors are joining current series stars Badley Walsh, Jamie Bamber, Harriet Walter and Freema Ageyman

I have to admit; I’m a tad curious how a show like...

'Law & Order: UK' comes stateside
Worried about how you'll fill the hours this fall after the loss of Law & Order: Classic? Fear not, er... Your fear is for naught, as BBC America is bringing the seemingly awesome Law & Order: UK to the United States. Starring Jamie Bamber (Apollo from Battlestar!) and a host of other awesome people (Bradley Walsh, Ben Daniels, and Freema Agyeman to be specific), the show was well received in England, but until now has been hard to find in the Us. Personally, I'm just excited to see this show with British accents. I feel like that's going to class up the proceedings a bit. Make me feel like I'm watching something that isn't exactly the same each week. Below are some videos to get you pumped.

'Law & Order: UK' back for Season 2
Londres, police judiciaire (2009)
U.K.'s broadcaster ITV has ordered a second season of "Law & Order: UK," the British version of Dick Wolf's long-running crime drama.

ITV picked up 13 additional episodes from "L&O: UK" starring Bradley Walsh, Jamie Bamber and Freema Agyeman.

The series, produced by Kudos Films and Television, Wolf Films and NBC Universal, premiered in February with a seven-episode run, which averaged 6.3 million viewers and a 25% audience.

The remaining six episodes of the show's first season will be aired at a later date, ITV said.

"This is a great day for the 'Law & Order brand," Wolf said. "On the heels of the original 'Law & Order' tying 'Gunsmoke's' all time drama series record of 20 years, and 'Law & Order: Svu's' renewal for Season 11, its wonderful to have pick ups on both sides of the Atlantic."

Wolf executive produces "L&O: UK" with Kudos' Jane Featherstone, Andrew Woodhead and Stephen Garrett.

Freema Agyeman ('Law & Order: UK')
She's best known as David Tennant's former right-hand woman in Doctor Who, but Freema Agyeman has since spread her wings and flown to ITV1's Law & Order: UK to star alongside Bradley Walsh and Jamie Bamber. Does she miss Martha? Is she returning to Doctor Who? And how does Law & Order: UK compare? Armed with these questions - and more - we caught up with the lady herself to find out. Can you give us any hints on what we can expect from your character, Alesha, in the next episode?

"I think what they've done - which is quite out of character - is deviate from the formula. It's more about the regulars, and something happens that affects them more on a personal basis. One of the things I love about the show is the fact that you only learn about the characters through the context of their job.

Arresting U.K. debut for 'Law & Order'
London -- ITV1's U.K.-produced version of long running Dick Wolf drama franchise "Law & Order" debuted with 6.4 million viewers and a 26% share on Monday night winning the 9 p.m. slot.

The hotly anticipated drama, commissioned by the network over a year ago, stars Feema Ageyman as crown prosecutor Alesha Philips and Bradley Walsh as Detective Ronnie Brooks. Ben Daniels, Bill Paterson and Jamie Bamber, who appeared in "Battlestar Galactica" also make up the key cast.

ITV originally commissioned 13 episodes but is understood to want to extend the run, while local versions have also been made in France and Russia.

Set against the backdrop of London's King's Cross area, the U.K. version uses scripts from the U.S. that have been adapted for the British legal and investigative systems. The first episode saw the team investigating the death of a baby whose body was found dumped in...

Chris Noth
Noth Denies Plans For Law + Order Movie
Chris Noth
Law + Order star Chris Noth has denied there are any plans to bring the hit crime show to the big screen - insisting the programme doesn't need any more incarnations.

The actor was a member of Law + Order's original cast between 1990 and 1995 and returned to the franchise in 2005, reprising his character for spin off show Criminal Intent.

The show, which has become the longest running primetime drama in America, now has two successful sub-series - Criminal Intent and Special Victims Unit, with plans for a British branch of the franchise - Law + Order: London - well underway.

And Noth insists that with so many different variations of the show currently showing on TV, there is no need to make a movie as well.

He says, "The problem with Law and Order is that it's on three times a day, six days a week. There are three different shows. I can barely watch it and I'm on it."...
