    Sweet, but not very credible

Miho (Maho) is a modern Tokyo school girl who contemplates being a science fiction writer. Miyata (Kazuma Sano), too, is a frustrated would-be writer - in 1912. After an earthquake, Miho accidentally drops her cellphone, which falls into a wormhole, bending the normal rules of time and space. By further twisting the rules of physics and telecommunications, the two can talk to one another over time. It appears that that the two have quite a bit in common despite their considerable differences.

But TOKYO GIRL makes more sense as a way to manage story conventions, a way to fictionally link people from different times. (The same device was recently used, as you might recall, in Jin and Jin 2.) But once you get past the awkward set-up (which you probably shouldn't think about too long), the story evolves into a charming love story of sorts, about two time-crossed would-be lovers. But love will be replaced by melancholy, since their time together can't last forever. (Even the laws of physics can't solve problems with lithium cell phone batteries.)

TOKYO GIRL tries to overcome basic plot problems with a sentimental story about two young people separated by time. The period detail is competent enough to be convincing, and Kaho is always likable and believable.

    Its OK

I get a strong feeling that this movie is meant for girls.

It all starts when Miho-San drops her Mobile phone (in the year 2008), and it ends up falling into a worm hole through space and time, The phone then ends up in the hands of young Takeshirou (in the year 1912) And thats basically what the story is about, and the contact between the of them.

the movie start as if it was leading some where, for some reason I a feeling of excitement, but oh how I was wrong.

The movie is nice and sweet, but they spend most of it on the phone. I feel the movie could have been better but for what it is its OK.

    Cute low paced movie

In Tokyo, a time breach allows a 16-year-old young girl from 2008 to accidentally get in touch with a young man from 1912 who also lives in Tokyo.

The innocence of the two young main characters is touching. The viewer might have liked a happier ending, but then the film would have lost some of the emotion and uniqueness that sets it apart from other similar movies.

Meant for quiet teenagers and adults with an old soul, this movie reminds me of another heartfelt film with a similar plot (time breach + love story) : "The Love Letter" (1998) film starring Campbell Scott and Jennifer Jason Leigh.

Another well made Time Travel themed Movie from Japan

This is a movie version of Tokyo Girl (Tokyo Shoujo), produced by an unlikely named TBS (Tokyo Broadcasting System) producer Tamon-Andrew Niwa . Tamon-Andrew despite his name is a first generation Japanese born in Tokyo.

There's four different TV series and a movie (this one) to this popular drama. First TV series aired in 2003, second seres aired in 2006, third series aired in 2007, and the fourth series aired in 2008. Kaho who starred on the second episode of second TV series, and Kazuma Sano who starred in the second episode of the third TV series plays the lead in this movie.

Miho (Kaho) drops her cell phone at the stairwell by accident. The phone goes through a wormhole and ends up 100 years in the past where Tokijiro (Kazuma Sano) finds it. They realize that they can communicate with each other when the moon is visible. First they don't realize that they are in different time, but gradually they start to realize that each one is telling the truth. Tokijiro send a mirror to Miho by leaving it with the store owner, telling him that a girl will come to pick it up 100 years later. The daughter of the shop owner who was five at the time, but when Miho shows up at the store, now a hundred year old woman remembers Tokijiro's request and hands her the mirror. Tokijiro is aspiring to be a novel writer apprenticing under the famous novelist Soseki Natsume. He asks Miho if he became a famous novelist himself. Miho has never heard of his name, but not only that he's not listed as one of the apprentice of Natsume. He wrote a novel based on their relation, but it's too avant-garde for the taste of his publisher, and gets rejected. The two realities of him being apprentice of Soseki, and not showing up as such in history doesn't match, but one day it becomes obvious to both Miho, and Tokijiro why the time line has turned out the way it did. Tokijiro's novel after 100 years is very much in line with the trend, and becomes the best seller.

The story is quite excellent bitter sweet romance. It's somewhat reminiscent to the original (1983 version) of "Girl Who Leaped Through Time" (Toki o Kakeru Shoujo) in that the main character falls in love with a boy from different time. In this movie, what travels time in is not a person, but a cell phone. The movie is quite stressful to those who are not a native Japanese talker because most of the story happens between the phone conversation of the two main characters, but if one follows their conversation closely, it becomes obvious how well the story is put together.

    7.5/10 and recommended for viewing.
