In with Thieves

In with Thieves was one of the most original low budget films I've seen. The story itself was bold by including the Albanian Mafia, a voodoo driven Cuban cartel, African blood diamond smugglers, and American burglars. There is a lot going on in this film to keep viewers guessing which way things will turn out. The plot does get slightly muddled at points, but not enough to get distracting.

There were a few excellent unknown actors in this one. Including Edward Gusts who plays a junkie and Jennifer Day as a spoiled wife. I will admit the sexiness factor of Jennifer Day is hard to over look. The curious angle on this film is the unabashed nudity. I'm not sure how much was planned originally, but there is a lot of skin in this one. So much so a review is featured on Mr. Skin. Personally I am not against gratuitous nudity. I don't fancy myself as a prude.

There were many highly dramatic scenes in this one. A good old fashioned hardboiled gangster film. I felt that the lines were sharp and smart. I would have liked to see more venues for action to happen in this low budget offering. Oceans this is not. I was entertained through out. The opening and ending are memorable. I purchased this on Amazon without any regret. This is the type of film I could watch more than once.

The only negative I really can mention is a long speech by an Albanian gangster. There seemed to be an audio problem that was distracting to me. Otherwise this one is a winner in my book.

I gave it a 2 because this film is painfully amateur. Some of the actors where complete garbage, and the plot lines were totally predictable. The only reason i gave this film a 2 (and im being generous here) is because at heart this film tries to be an entertaining gangster flick, and even if it was so VERY badly made, at times it was entertaining. I do feel as if i've seen all of these plot lines before however, so that coupled with low quality production, bad background music in the film, bad acting (by some) and sub par special effects/visuals all round ensured this movie gets no more than a 2. (and i am being generous here even). Word to the wise here people, avoid this film like it is the beubonic plague.

P.S - the director should get another job, try plumbing maybe i hear there's money in that!!!!

I like what writer/director Sid Kali does . After watching his other movie Consignment I figured I would give this one a go. I was not disappointed. In With Thieves is a B grade movie that deserves to be bumped up to B+. The writing was terrific. I loved the part when a Latino crook goes off about over use of cell phones by people in public. The story goes this crook was shopping for clothes while a woman yells into her cell phone how hot her BF would look in a pair of jeans. The punch line is the BF was two feet away the whole time.

I was impressed with how much was squeezed into this story. Sid Kali did not take the easy way out making a generic movie. The story covers the Albanian Mafia going against a Cuban voodoo cult against a African crime group against American thieves. You have to pay attention, but it's so worth it. If you are easily offended by nudity this movie is not for you. The women are extremely sexy and they all get nude.

I don't understand the reasoning behind a couple of negative comments posted. The movie looked great. Heads and tails above 90% of B grade movies out there.

I found a few nice actor talents, but nothing that holds the story throughout the entire picture, it's an independent movie alright but the story is so unoriginal that it becomes embarrassing watching sometimes. I understand that the director-writer-producer Sid Kali is a bald young-as filmmaker that hopes to create a some kind of new genre or urban style but i feel it lacks originality, it's so common it doesn't fit the screen, it needs to be seen in reality, i think a live theater play could work if you have the right age and background to back it up, if not, it's just not interesting. I could compare it to watch a school project, if you don't know the person that created the movie (and think that person is interesting) it just not gonna fly...Neva Eva... Maybe i was a little hard on Sid when i gave a 1 of 10 but i felt cheated of my spare time giving the film a go because the overall rating was so high. I just hope no other people gets cheated or misled like i did on the rating..

This movie is terrible...Bad acting, bad background music, bad effects, bad filming (camera shakes here and there), and very random conversations. I kept getting lost with regard to the story line. I could not finish the movie and my husband also bombed out later on and could not finish it either - he tried to be strong :o) I'm not against low budget movies but at least they must have a good story line. I think this movie would have been better on stage because some of the actors would be excellent on stage judging from the way they act - especially the Albanian gangsters.

I would not recommend it to anyone except for those who would like to see what not to do when filming movies.
