What I first liked about it is that is is so STRANGE. I think it's the most freakiest show I've watched ever. It's so weird and colorful and full of amazing acting. I love a good revenge story, but the addition of witchcraft, and 90's Hollywood? Where do I sign?

Title says it all. The first 4 episodes are great. Full of surprises, horror and gore. However the story runs a bit flat and almost predictable towards the end so I was left a bit disappointed after finishing the series. Rosa Salazar's performance was top notch though. She nailed the character and takes viewer into the story very deeply. It's a worthwhile series to watch and scare yourself.

It's always nice when something new comes along. They need to take more chances like this. It's not anything extraordinarily crazy but it is a new take on older things. The acting is done well and the characters keep you interested in wanting to know what is going to happen to them. It's a darker tone with just a little bit of humor thrown in very rare which is nice because it doesn't have a confusing tone. It's only trying to be one thing and that's what it is. I myself was not familiar with any of the actors aside Catherine Keener Who plays her character very well in this. Even not being familiar with the other actors they all seem to be pretty organic and believable. It's definitely not for everyone it has more of a horror tone than anything. But it's not the typical hacker slasher that most stuff seems to be these days. It also has elements of a psychological thriller. If you're looking for something new and different give it a try, I would recommend it.

*Pros* The main actress (Rosa, playing Lisa) is amazing! It was a very demanding role, which she nailed & completely sold the story. Boro, Lou and Alvin (the funny producer man), were also brill. -- The premise is solid, and time is taken towards enabling us to really resonate with the main character. -- I like the cinematography; and filming locations. -- The hair, makeup & fashion departments deserve a shout out.
I really enjoyed it & it's addictive. And would recommend if you like this genre. Especially if you like AHS.
*Cons* In episodes 1-5, the character's behaviours and motivations made sense & were moderately realistic. And that's what made it so engaging. However, from ep. 6 onwards, characters would behave in ways that are unusual / illogical / counterintuitive. (However, I appreciate that sometimes this is necessary to push the story forward.) -- A lot of plot holes and unanswered questions. -- I think they could have benefited from making the main character more compassionate in some situations involving innocent parties. -- I would have slightly toned down the gruesomeness; it started to get predictable that if we see something gross... someone is going to eat it.

It's SO DIFFICULT to find stuff done like this that is not half-measured, watered down or censored to impotency.
This series is surreal horror in the vein of Cronenberg, Kafka and Burroughs, and it's done RIGHT.
The cast is SPECTACULAR, the effects are top notch and the overall design is perfect. Yeah, it's weird, really weird. But it's totally grounded in great dialog, a completely digestible story and a surreal mind bending plot.
If you're looking for PG screamfest, this isn't it. But this is SO much better than this sort of thing has been for years. And it does not fall off as it goes.
Eighty-six stars.

There are "David Lynch vibes". Lost highway, maybe Mulholland drive. In my opinion, it's got nothing to do with Cronenberg.
90's /early 00's aesthetic. Weirdness, witchcraft, multi-layered characters. Catherine Keener is magnificent. If you are into bizarre mystery movies with horror elements and a few funny scenes, you will like this.
Nevertheless, there are downsides. The ending is not bad, but it's not very good/cathartic either, it feels like a mid season finale.
You also don't feel much tension, you don't feel 100% the horror and the agony of the characters , it's a little bit superficial and shallow. Maybe this was exactly the creators' choice, lighten up a bit. If so, it's not a bad choice, but i would prefer it darker.
To sum up, it keeps your attention right to the very end and it's entertaining. I am glad i watched it and i would like to see a second season.

A Netflix series that follows the descent into hell of a young woman (Rosa Salazar) dreaming of making it big in the Hollywood. We discover how far she must go to make a feature film, and to do that, she has to put up with lots of vomiting kittens, occult and revenge in equal measures. It relentlessly portrays the power dynamics, revenge and the consequences that arise from it. In the later course of the series, these developments are also reflected in grotesque body horror, which uncomfortably unites a weird melange of genres. Combined with Rosa Salazar's impressive screen presence and Catherine Keener's provocative portrayal of Boro.
However the 2nd half of the series took a downturn with cheesy moments and forced storylines. The series starts off compelling and then just kind of goes off the deep end with weak dialogues and rushed screenplay. It recalls Asia Argento's Scarlet Diva, films of David Cronenberg, Lucile Hadzihalilovi, some Hong Kong Cat III sleaze-fest, Nicolas Winding Refn aesthetics, and tries hard to be Lynchian. There's Patrick Fischler who is famous for the Winkie's scene in Lynch's "Mulholland Drive" as Alvin Sender. I felt like this had a lot of potential but I just wasn't enjoying myself anymore in the last half but it partially attempts to get back on track towards the very end and feels rushed.
There is comic relief, Jonathan who plays Lou's son and I don't know if it was intentional or not. His role was very amusing. Even the kitten puking thing will begin to seem more normative after repeated. Felt it was stretched, I was even laughing. I see the "gore" the series was after, but it didn't come through in full circle except for the fisting scene.
In any case, Brand New Cherry Flavor is one of those visual experiences that is truly one horrifying series, but the horrifying doesn't really feel earned. A lot of weird feelings surrounding this series. This will definitely be a hard slog for general viewers for it's uncanny atmosphere even if it doesn't necessarily pay it off but will leave a lasting impression for those who can go into this series with an open mind.

Glad they give really weird stuff like this a chance. Really, really weird. And addictive. I can't stop watching. Rosa Salazar absolutely nails the part, and gives flair to the whole show. Great special effects, directing, and did I say really weird already?

This was a bizarre ride of a show, I enjoyed the slow burn and weird vibes throughout but the ending really let it down. I feel there was zero closure or wrap up, almost like they forgot to release the last episode.
Others may disagree with my assessment, there's a lot of love for this series and some may say there was enough of a wrap up with open ends for the imagination but it felt like a lazy finish with nothing particularly resolved. It's a shame there's no season two because it's a perfect cliff hanger of an ending but for a limited season it's let down.
Acting was great all round, cinematography was on point. The protagonist wasn't overly relatable and was very cold at times but that didn't detract from the enjoyment, very much Aubrey Plaza vibes.

Brand New Cherry Flavor was successful for me in that it was good enough to make me want to watch until the end. The atmosphere and tone were great. Most of the acting was good, and the rest good enough. I liked the weirdness of it all, although in the end it felt a bit like it was weird purely for the sake of being weird.
Overall I did not find much depth, however. I suspect I'll forget it pretty quickly. There were no really badass or crazy moments. I found the main characters somewhat interesting due to their weirdness, but otherwise one-dimensional. Most importantly, I felt that the ending was a major letdown. By that point, I didn't really like or care much about any of the characters anymore, and in any case it didn't really feel like a climax... the story just wound down and ended.
If the last few episodes had really delivered, I think I'd be rating this at least an 8. But without a real payoff, I'm left feeling like there wasn't much point to it all. I still thought it was entertaining though.

Starts off really slow and so boring. Then really engaging and super weird and shocking, I was hooked and binged it. Then when it ends? Pointless. Thanks for nothing.

If a bunch of drugs got together and wrote a show.
Fantastic craftsmanship and camera work, editing is subtle and surprising, set design is funky, the plant house and the naked garden hose shower scene were... unexpected.
I like unexpected. Unexpected is good.

Ok so this may only be me, but the main actress kind of reminded me of Aubrey Plaza. She has that weird feel and vibe to her ... and the look too. Again, you may feel I'm way off here, I'm just telling you how I feel or rather what I felt while I was watching the show.
This has been available for some time, but I did not come around watching it until the other day(s). And it kind of blew my mind in different ways. While it is different things all at once, it manages to keep all those things coherent (as far as the overall world the movie taking place always) ... and while yes characters do turn out to do things they should not do - this is how the show works and how it has to be. Convenient, yet surprising and effective! And the horrors this has to show you/us - the sights to be seen.
Now it starts off easy or rather normal enough. But the show gets quite crazy. And you see glimpses of that from the beginning - you just don't know it yet. Or rather what those glimpses mean ... you will know a bit more by the end of it. But not all - like many other good shows, this has a lot of secrets ... things that you either have to figure out yourself or read about them on the internet (not in my review though - hope that is not the reason you read up until this point).
I mentioned Plaza, but the lookalike is not the only attraction in this show (no pun intended). Whether it is looks wise (male or female) or just acting talent wise (actually why not both? As you get with Katherine Keener?) .. the show has a lot to offer. Whoever came up with this, I am curious to see where that mind wanders to next ...

A wicked, malignant tale bases in Hollywood, driven by the great Rosa Salazar. It works like a fever dream with elements that evoke Under the Silver Lake and Mulholland Drive. Sure It's not for everybody, but is above the usual level of Netflix productions.
Maybe its emotional part is cold and distant, but it's such a worthy ride and we shouldn't judge Antosca for being pretentious. At least he's trying to make something different than the most Netflix mediocre shows.

You get through the entire binge watch, thinking how you are enjoying it... until a predictable, sell out, lazy ending changes the whole energy and perspective leaving a horrible and disappointing taste in your mouth. This is a perfect example of that. 4 stars for everything that came before.

I'm quite conflicted over this series. It has such an interesting premise, and cinematography is top notch. Indeed, much of the character development and script are good as well. Great supporting cast.
I think that one of my main complaints about this series is the pacing. I feel that this story could have been told in much less time, even though it's only 8 episodes. It gets drawn out and depressing after a while. Pointless scenes that don't really serve any purpose mixed in with some quality stuff. I guarantee watching it you will become a bit bored midway through.
Nothing against the main actress who was great, but her character was just a dud for me. Pretentious, selfish, and unrelatable. One of the main reasons I lost interest. The last episode ending was decent, but by that point I was just still watching to be able to give a full review.
I find it hard to imagine who this series is trying to appeal to. I feel like it just drifts without a solid purpose or point. It has a solid foundation in terms of production quality and supporting cast, but I wish they kept the script a bit tighter. A decent watch if you don't have anything else to do.
