Asif Ali and Rajisha Vijayan in Ellam Sheriyakum (2021)

Missing the entertainment factor

There a very few movies which tried to be a mix of political-family-social-emotional-romantic drama and succeeded in it. 'Lion' is a very notable successful one in that category. 'Ellaam Shariyakum' tried its best to become a noteworthy mention in this genre, but failed miserably to create an impact. The movie is a 'avial' of everything, but didn't create the much needed enthusiasm. The story is relevant and very relatable, and the movie is also giving a very appropriate message to our current politicians. Unfortunately as a movie, it failed to impress.

Poor character development & a cliched storyline make this a dull watch!

The trajectory of director Jibu Jacob's films continues along a downward spiral, from the heights of emotionally heartwarming comedies like "Vellimoonga" (2014) and "Munthirivallikal Thalikkumbol" (2017) to the damp squib "Adhyarathri" (2019) and now his latest misfire in "Ellam Sheriyakum" (2021). Asif Ali and Rajisha Vijayan star as a pair of star-crossed lovers from opposing political factions who decide to run away together, causing a chain reaction of events that forms the rest of this cliched story.

The film adopts a non-linear storytelling style, switching back and forth between flashbacks and present-day events, but the two timelines never gel with or tie into each other smoothly, resulting in a sluggish experience for the viewer. Many scenes will evoke a sense of righteous anger and indignation in our minds but the follow-through and resolution of the conflicts from there leave much to be desired.

Siddique, as usual, delivers a compelling performance as "KC Chacko", clearly modelled along ex-Kerala CM Oommen Chandy, playing the role of a Machiavellian political operator with gravitas and punch. Kalabhavan Shajohn is also fabulous in the few scenes he is given and his ripostes with Siddique offer some of the best sequences in this otherwise largely tiresome viewing experience.

The director clearly takes aim at the rampant politics of violence in Kerala, the prevalence of sexual abuse in the highest echelons of power and other issues that need to be discussed and criticized, but unfortunately, they appear more like a collection of disjointed scenes than as part of a coherent narrative. The use of songs to drive the story forward rather than complement the same, automatically creates an emotional disconnect.

The Asif Ali-Rajisha Vijayan pairing that enthralled us in the brilliant "Anuraga Karikkin Vellam" (2016) loses all its charm and heart this time around, with their romance coming off as inorganic, forced and often jarring in a plot intended to serve as a political drama. While both of them put in earnest performances, the writing gives them precious little to work with in terms of character arcs and one is never able to fully develop a connection to these forlorn lovers. Rajisha, in particular, is given a prickly, always-indignant demeanour as part of her character that makes her scenes downright irritating.

Balu Varghese is largely forgettable in a criminally underwritten cameo role and is barely a shadow of the performer who had us hooked in "Operation Java" (2021) and "Jan. E. Man" (2021). Kichu Telles is sincere but caricature-ish in his negative role while Indrans, Sreejith Ravi, Sudheer Karamana and Johny Antony are compelling in the short time we see them on screen.

The 'twists' in the plotline are so predictable that you can see them coming from a mile away and this, combined with a lack of empathy the audience feels for the main protagonists makes this a story the viewer can never buy into. While it has a lot of social messages and political critiques that are commendable, the film as a whole proves to be a largely forgettable watch.

With both "Ellam Sheriyakum" and "Kunjeldho" ending up as flops, one hopes that the capable actor in Asif Ali picks better scripts going forward. Ultimately, "Ellam Sheriyakum" suffers from poor writing and character development and is stuffed with so many oft-repeated cliches that it is a tiring, dull watch.

Not recommended!

onnum sheriyayilla

This film tries to explore the family life a profound politician alone with general Kerala politics. Even though the plot is pretty convincing the scripting casting direction and dialogues tore this movie apart . The director is cleaver enough to mix the comercial elements properly which helped the movie to get a decent crowd appreciation This movie targets family audience so it is sprinkled with moments of goodness.. coming to acting part Asif ali again chose a role which is way below his capacity Rejisha is a miss cast and the actual hero of the movie Siddique who was excellent through out Conclusion: if you want to kill 2hr with your family watch this movie ' Ellam sheriyakum'

Ordinary

Just the same old ordinary stuff. But could have been a very good outing only if the direction and casting was good. Appreciable story/script - but it went to the worst making! Totally disappointing film making.

Decent Movie but horrible title

I think the poster artwork and the title itself failed this movie. Siddique was masterful in the climax scenes as a rugged politician. Asif was solid as usual so was R. Vijayan. I think if they had changed the title, it would ran a bit better in theaters.

Meaningless drivel

Dont bother to watch this movie. Total waste of your time. Meaningless drivel.

Represents the usual so-called political movie with nothing new to show. The usual run-of-the-mill below average movie.

A Feel Good Movie

Ellam Sheriyakum ( Everything will be fine) a political- family drama movie directed by Jibu Jacob starring Siddique, Asif Ali & Rajisha Vijayan in lead role

Released on 19th November 21 in theatre

Verdict of movie Super Hit

Plot of the Movie

A lefist political person Vineeth played by Asif Ali eloped with his opposition leader KC Chacko's daughter who is entitled the post of the political king maker

Then what happens to Vineeth and KC Chacko's political and personal life forms the rest part of the movie

Observation towards the Movie

After watching the movie, I must applaud Sharis Mohammad, the script writer for pin pointing the current political scenario happening in Kerala & throwing a light on the common people that politics is not what we see, its way different from reality

The movie shows the unnoticed sacrifice of the politicans who could able to change the system & withstand the challenges but in the interest of personal benefits it not only defeats that deserving politicans but also defeating the trust of the people who unbiasedly beleive in that political party

The movie highlights the father- daughter, husband- wife relationship to its deepest level which director Jibu Jacob had perfectly crafted it

Performance

Its an out and out Siddique Sir film, Asif Ali is the hero, but Siddique had proved that his presence and talent will overshadow the leading hero of the movie

His transformation from early 90's as a Hero, then in 2000's as an antagonist and now taking up the character roles, he had proved he is versatile in all areas of acting

Asif Ali & Rajeesha Vijayan had also given their best performance

Songs Soothing Experience.

Just Average

Its my mistake that I expected a lot from the director of Vellimoonga. This movie is also a political family oriented movie..Asif and Siddique did it well...Heroine is not upto the mark. In short its a story of two politicians left activists (Asif) right activists (Siddique). Siddique daughter rajisha is in love with Asif and just one day before the counting day she abscond with Asif. The story starts from here and at last Siddique accept them..Story finishes..

Ore kunathvum sheri ayilla. Avoid

Only communist people will like this movie. I think they pumped up the rating to 9. But movie actually deserves very low rating

Weak and old story. Poor direction. Not even 1 time watch for general public.

Acting was okay.

A must watch movie for familes

A well written engaging screenplay can do magic. You can see that in this movie. A sweet family movie wrapped inside a political drama. Acting wise, Asif ali and Rejisha did well. But Siddhiq scored the hearts with top notch acting and screen presence. This is not another empty feel good movie. It has substance. The cinematography was okay. A couple of good romantic songs. Nothing felt artificial or forced. There is no mystery to unravel. But it will grab your attention tight for 2 and a half hours. A must watch.

One time watch

Siddique is excellent as usual.

Unnecessary goon role of Asif Ali. He is not with his movies frankly speaking.

The girl is great.

Regular political flick, seen it before.

Ellam seriyaanu

A feel good movie with some moral lessons for the current political world, youngsters and parents. Asif Ali and other actors did their part to the best. A travel through good and bad phases of a middle class family guy, mixed with Indian politics, romance, tragedy and some good moral lessons which every politicians should start thinking about.

One Time Watchable...

I feel like watching a movie with an old story .. Not a different story . The movie highlights the story of different political parties and about their elections.

But it also shows the importance of political leaders in their family also. They need both family and parties in their life.

Songs are nice...

😊

A Well narratted story which dealt with family emotions and Kerala Politics especially the central travancore recent happenings in Kerala. Actor Siddique just raised the show to another level. Also, Asif had improved alot in acting which proved his ability to handle pivotal roles and Rejisha's performance was also good. Here, some of the notables were Johny Antony Sir's role, Ousephachan Sir's role, Indrans Sir's role was an end result of superb casting. Over All am Happy 😊 after watching the movie. #EllamSheriyakum.

Simple movie with valid message

A family movie which disucss about politics ,power and family relations. Technical side is very nice. Asif Ali is again very good on his part, still not that powerful to take the wild part of this story. Good Work.

Super boring

This movie has no interesting content , keeps dragging it's feet thru a boring political drama and another boring family story. Tried to watch thinking it will at least have some humor like vellimoonga, but that's not the case either.

Asif ali is acting as usual asif ali. Rajisha and Siddique are kind of better. Lot of other characters comes and goes.
