Avis à la une
It's far bigger than a spoon. And while there may be some innuendos hidden here, the movie is overall kid friendly. But I am getting ahead of myself. Let me first say that I have not seen the original this is based on. So I cannot compare if this holds up to what you might have liked in the original.
That being said, Otto Waalkes who plays the titular character seems to look exactly like the character or rather actor who already played the role many decades ago. His humor probably is different. With Otto - well you get Otto. That should be clear by now. Not a bad thing, but something you should be aware of ... some nice jokes all around and a lot of predictable stuff happening.

Anyone who expects the quality of the former series will be bitterly disappointed. I like Otto a lot, but he should have kept his hands off this cult.
And not funny. It has nothing to do with the spirit of the original catweazle. And why gives nearly everybody in the movie the boy the feeling, he is too fat? This is not funny.
Otto at least looks a bit like the 70s catweazle, but he still plays far too much as he always plays. Too much Otto-like. The sets look lovely though, the cast plays halfway well. The movie is mostly a kid's movie, and it's okay for that. Otherwise rather kitschy and clichéd.
I have fond memories of the original 2 series back in '69 - 70. My grandchildren watch the show from the DVD box set I bought them. They actually really enjoy it. As you would.
I enjoyed this film from the little German I can understand. It was a jolly romp from start to end.
I see some folks didn't like it and that is fine. That's how we are. We all have the right to opinion although in 2022 it doesn't seem allowed.
.......but it is a kid's film after all. What do you expect?
If there was a version with English subs or voice overs, I might see the story differently.
I'm just a tad concerned that the Carpenter Estate were not consulted or asked for permission to use Kit Carpenter's character. If they were not consulted and have not benefitted from this then this is a real concern.
Perhaps we should have had either a 3rd series or a British film if the Carpenter estate was willing.
Or perhaps Catweazle was perfect just with the 2 series and left at that.

- AnecdotesThe melody that Lisa's crystal is playing is "Drunt im Tal, ja da sitzt das kleine Ottili", a song that Otto Waalkes wrote for his comedy routine when he started his career in the early 70s. He used it in various of his own comedy movies and TV shows.
