ABC executive producer Que Minh Luu, writer/director Julietta Boscolo and writers Candy Bowers and Kodie Bedford will take part in Australians in Film (AiF) and Screen Australia’s annual Mentor La program.

The mentors for the year-long program are executive producer Betsy Beers, writer/producer Yahlin Chang (The Handmaid’s Tale), Emmy-nominated director Jamie Babbit and comedy writer and executive producer Peter Saji (Blackish).

This year, Mentor La encouraged applications from creatives currently under-represented in the Australian screen industry with unique stories to tell, matching them with mentors that champion diversity and inclusion.

Deborah Mailman and Rachel Griffiths lead the cast of ‘Black B*tch’.

Leading the ABC’s drama slate in 2019 is Blackfella Films’ Black B*tch, starring Deborah Mailman and Rachel Griffiths, with the broadcaster reconfirming its commitment to Australian stories and diversity at its upfronts today.

Other new drama/comedy series on the ABC’s slate for new year include the previously announced Frayed, a Mermaid Television production that stars Sarah Kendall, RevLover’s Diary of an Uber Driver, Synchronicity Films’ The Cry, and 30-episode serial The Heights, from Matchbox and For Pete’s Sake Productions.

Speaking at the content launch, ABC acting MD David Anderson put forward that the ABC is Australia’s “chief storyteller”. Sarah Kendall

UK-based Australian comedian Sarah Kendall is starring in Frayed, a six-part comedy-drama commissioned by the ABC and Sky UK, the first collaboration between the broadcasters.

Kendall created the 1989-set show in which she plays Sammy Cooper, a fabulously wealthy London housewife who is forced to return to her hometown in Australia, where she must revisit her past and the events that led her to flee as a teenager years earlier.

Sharon Horgan and Clelia Mountford’s production company Merman Television, which developed the project with the ABC and Sky, is co-producing with Kevin Whyte’s Guesswork Television.

Filming is underway in Newcastle and Sydney supported by Create Nsw, followed by location shooting in London. Kendall wrote all the episodes. Nicole O’Donohue is the producer and the directors are Jennifer Leacey and Shaun Wilson.

"Frayed" is a horror outing from directors Norbert Caoili and Robert Portmann that highlights the successes of other films including "Halloween" and "Hellaburger." This August 25th fans will get to see a crazed clown killer attack in "Frayed" and now to kick of the release director Norbert Caoili is providing a movie clip from the actual movie, which shows the killer in full light. As seen in the movie still above the killer looks to be a mental asylum escapee with a love for hiding his face from the characters in the film and from horror film fans. A slasher thriller from Lionsgate will be released on DVD this August 25 and "Frayed" will offer a new twist to the genre with a young child developing into a matricidal killer. Shot in dark tones "Frayed" now offers a glimpse of the villain in this first one-sheet and trailer. Not to be missed in the summer this film is a true horror piece with a restricted rating attached for several violent scenes. Have a look at the ominous looking trailer inside.

Who reading this has ever had a crazy friggin' sibling? I did. Every time my brother borrowed shit from me, I'd get it back "fixed", if I even got it back at all. Considering nothing was ever broken when I gave it to him, this was most troubling. In any event I guess I'm lucky that was the extent of it because Lionsgate's new film Frayed is set to show audiences how frightening brotherly love can be!
