A good political thriller
This film is a fictional story of an election campaign for the Democrat nomination in the U.S.
The film requires a lot of knowledge of U.S. politics and its election process. Those who don't have this knowledge might find the film confusing in the beginning.
The remainder of the story makes for a great political thriller. There are plot twists, backstabbing, betrayal and revenge all the while using current political issues as a backdrop. The film works well with this storytelling and headlined by a fine cast that includes Ryan Gosling, George Clooney, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Evan Rachel Wood, and Paul Giamatti. The film must also be praised for having the right amount of tension and intrigue without a single scene of violence.
Rather sadly, the film gives that frequent, already-known message (thankfully subtly) that politics corrupts regardless of one's initial ideals. Still, it's rather good. - dbamateurcritic
