love, friendship, loneliness, aimless - this movie is almost a documentary, and immensely relatable

This is such a special film to me. I stumbled across it on youtube but was surprised at how quickly I was absorbed into the story

Young girl in a big city struggling to make it. Except the big city is not New York, but a chinese city!! So many parallels despite the huge cultural difference and despite being a love story on its surface, it is so much more.

Movies like this are why I love Chinese cinema, I really hope we are seeing a reemergence of great movies from China in the coming years.

Comfortable but familiar and predictable

This movies doesn't hide that it's trying to copy Us and Then (hou lai de wo men). From the "making it in Beijing" plot to casting the main actress who looks like Zhou Dongyu, you will feel you are watching B roll footage from the superior original.

Despite the familiar and predictable plot progression, it still delivers that comfy Beijing dream chasing plot. From breakups to class reunions to hometown returns, the story hits all the beats at the right moments.

You will like this movie if you like a comfy story set in Beijing, that isn't over the top like so many other mainland Chinese movies are. You won't like it if you are looking for something new or challenging.
